To Hunt a Vampire

"Mine is.. 2 part.. if that is.. acceptable.... Maiar..."

He nodded, gesturing for her to proceed.

"If You were in love with my Grandmother.. why do You think she chose my grandfather..?"

He looked down at the floor, pondering the question...

It took him some time, nearly three and a half minutes of silence passed between them before he finally spoke.

"Because...because he loved her in a way I could not. They shared a certain bond in being mortal that I, my kind, could not compare to. She would grow old, wither away, while I remained...destined to walk this lonely path."

He tiled his head to the side, those eyes running up Talin's figure. It was amazing how much she resembled Iliana.

"She wanted a family, children, a normal life. Again, something I could not give her. Call it selfishness, call it vanity...but she made the right decision."

Those firey orbs of his danced about her body, he wanted to feel her again...the urge was writhing inside of him...he closed his eyes, furrowing his brow a moment..trying to shake the feeling away. It felt like a dull heartbeat..burning inside him. He slowed it...the beats longer and longer apart.

"Ahem...and for the second part?"

He opened his eyes again, choosing to center his focus on her eyes rather than her body...

~ He remained silent for a lot longer than she had thought He would... she could almost *see* Him thinking her question over... Slowly.. as He then answered... and she in turn.. listened... she approached Him.. The heat of His eyes... His gaze.. was almost palatable.. she felt drawn to Him... not just physically... her grandmother's words kept repeating over and over again...

"He saw YOU in me... not Me in YOU"

"Ahem...and for the second part?"

She paused... turning slightly to now approach the hearth that for the moment.. bore no flame... a brushing of fingers into and thru her wild mane of red hair...

"Do You think... You could love again?"

She had so many questions for Him... hell she wished she could see and speak to her grandmother again.. she had a million questions it seemed.. for her...

In her hand.. she held a golden chain.. on that chain was a charm... a golden charm... Talin never understood why her grandmother had given it to her.. she said that someone special had given it to her... and she had to wonder if that had been.. the Vampire... the charm.. was a *M*...

"Do You think... You could love again?"

He looked down at her, somewhat puzzled by her second question. Why did she want to know that?..did she harbor some feelings for him?

He watched her form as she moved to the fireplace, his eyes could not resist her body in that dress. They roamed about her figure like hungry wolves in search of prey.

"This cold...heartless...vampire love?"

He looked away, grinding his teeth together, trying anything but to think of her that way...those positions...the screaming and moaning. It took a moment or two, but eventually he quelled the lust within him...his animal side laying dormant for now...

"I imagine anything is...possible..."

He ran a hand through his hair, fingers making small trails in those silver locks. The sun had finally set in the distance and he took this opportunity to remove himself from her tempting form...at least for now.

Maiar strode across the room, making his way out onto the balcony.

"Yes, I suppose anything is possible..."

~ She herself was not sure why she had asked *that* question.. the 2nd question she had planned to ask was why did He not make her grandmother into one like Him... yet instead.. she asked Him about love instead...

"This cold...heartless...vampire love?"

She turned her gaze upon Him at that...

Yes, I suppose anything is possible..."

He made His way to the balcony... ripping open the heavy drapes.. the doors following... The rising moon sent a cool illumination over His form.. and the grounds before Him...

She followed Him out... her bare feet silent as she steps.. she appears beside Him.. the closest she let herself get to Him .. of her own free will... the moon seeming to dance around her... the red of her hair and the rubied dress a sharp contrast to the blueish hue of the moon... the sharper air of the night made her shiver just a little.. and it also accented ... other.. parts of her... as her body reacts to the chilled caress...

"Your turn... Maiar...and to be fair.. feel free to ask 2 questions"

She had to wonder just what a vampire like Himself would even ask her... hell He had been there the very day she came into this world.. she supposed He would ask about Iliana.. perhaps... that would make sense to her...

Before she let Him speak tho.. she turned to Him...

"You.. are not cold and heartless... if You were.. I would not be walking among the living now... "

Once more he found himself glancing down at her figure in that dress...her body so firm, her skin tender and soft. The dress was a part of Maiar as he created it, and as such he was linked to it...to what it touched. One of the reasons he was so succeptable to her..."assets."

Maiar forced himself to look away, focus on the horizon. He thought a moment...his mind pondering the infinite inquiries he could ask. Finally, he spoke. That cape of his billowed out, folding around her, covering her form from the cold, not to mention his wandering gaze.

"I only need one question...What makes you happy?"

Maybe her answer would help him find one of his own...

"I only need one question...What makes you happy?"

~ Talin had not expected that kind of question.. not here.. not now.. and certainly not from a Vampire..

She could have thought about the answer.. but it came to her within a matter of moments... It was the same thing that had always made her happy when she was a child... sitting on her grandmother's lap...

"To see someone I love... smile"

It had been a long time she had seen that... she had no one now.. she was alone... her family was long since gone.. and she would not.. could not.. let anyone get close to her... love was not something Talin would ever feel... in her lifetime... at least that was what she believed...

And she realized the answer... made her sad... ironic... she thought.. how very ironic.. she missed her grandmother... her father.. she missed them all...

Turning away from Him.. she lowered her head.. she did not want Him to see her tears...

"to see someone I love... smile... " she repeated again..

She felt the wrap of His cape.. It was a warm touch.. for the night seemed to have gotten so much... colder.. she drew it around her.. seeking that warmth.. "Its been so long since I have felt anything other than pain... and hatred.. I don't even know what happy is anymore.. Maiar... " she whispered... "my answer is not entirely fair to You... because I have not been happy like that since I was a child.. sitting on my grandmother's lap...

perhaps we are not so different after all.. when You come down to it"

"Maybe we arent child...maybe..."

He set his hand on her shoulder as he looked out into the distance.

"You dont need to worry...there is no one else here. Ironically enough, you had slain the last of my coven the other night...the last of the loyal ones at least."

He let out a small laugh, he wasnt upset in the slightest. More so relieved than anything...somehow he felt better as if some solid weight had been lifted off of his shoulder.

"Are you hungry? You must be starved..."

He took a moment to think if he had anything edible within the castle...

"Hmm...I dont recall having any food. We...dont eat."

A thought popped into his mind.

"Maybe a walk to an inn?..or do you feel like flying?"

He lifted off of the stone balcony, pulling her up in his cape...however it was as if she floated in the fabric rather than being carried by it. Maiar carried her high into the dusk sky. A dark orange leading into the twilight he knew so well. The vampire flew through tufts of clouds and over great forests, straying far from any moving body of water, but near enough to get a great view.

"So...where would you like to go?"

~ Talin felt His touch... only this time... it was gentle.. like the glide of His fingers along her cheek the night prior... His hand rested to her shoulder... the same hand He had... violated her with.. that sudden memory made her tremble...

"Are you hungry? You must be starved..."

She had not thought about it .. amid all that had happened... but indeed she was hungry... very hungry.. she sliding a bandaged hand over her belly...

"yes Maiar... I am"

"Maybe a walk to an inn?..or do you feel like flying?"

The cape wrapped about her a bit tighter.. and a moment later.. before she had a chance to answer... they were airborn... her eyes widened.. then closed... she was much calmer with her eyes closed.. as the cool night air rushed by.. she felt very... secure.. and protected .. in the embrace of His cape...

"So...where would you like to go?"

"the more important question is.. where can You go where You will not be... bothered?"

She knew there were plenty of places that serviced to Vampires.. perhaps out of fear.. the Inn/Tavern owner who did was rarely bothered by anyone.. mortal or vampire...

Talin had been to her share of them...

Her mind wondered then... what was happening to her? She did not quite understand.. It was then she realized... for the first time she did not have her stake with her... she was at His mercy... she had been since being taken to His Castle.. she glanced at her bandaged hands.. remembering... pinned to the wall.. His claw like fingers buried inside of her... His fangs inches from ripping her throat out... yet ... He let her survive...

Because of her grandmother?

"Maiar... I asked You if you could or would love again... do You want to?"

She was not sure why she was asking Him... but she felt a closer... kinship with the Vampire than she ever had with a mortal... both were killers... both were hated... Talin's family had the pleasure of either being adored... or loathed... It depended... Talin herself.. ever since her family was gone... her grandmother being the last to die.. surprisingly... had never let anyone close to her... she was sooo desperatly lonely... yet hid it so well... at least til now... with this Vampire... ~

"Maiar... I asked You if you could or would love again... do You want to?"

He raised a brow to her, nestled into his cape like a baby in a carriage.

"I've loved and lost more than most...I dont find as much meaning in the term "love" anymore..."

He pointed to a nearby town and then looked to her. She shook her head and he nodded, moving on in the night sky to find some other place to bring her.

"Do I...'want'...to?...yes want is a better word. I do yearn to 'want' again..."

They passed above more towns, her shaking her head each time, and Maiar moved on. A few more moments went by and he stopped.

Looking out into the horizon he saw his castle, like a shadow of a mountain so far away. He turned away, peering down at the world below. His vampire eyes could see farther and to greater detail than her own. There was a carriage moving along a dirt path below, obviously some rich noble returning to the nearby town after some woodland retreat.

However, what caught Maiar's eye was the large picnic baskets set on the backside of the carriage. The vampire thought a moment and then looked to Talin. He put a finger over his lips.

"Shhhh..."

He let her fall from his cape, he himself disappearing into a flutter of a dozen small bats. She free-fell for just a moment or two before his arms were beneath her, holding the girl up. Yet she did not simply fall with a thud. Before she even hit his crooked arms, she felt light as a feather as if slowing to a stop rather than a hard and sudden one. He held one of the larger baskets in his hand and smirked to her.

"Soo...a moonlit picnic atop a rooftop?"

He turned in the cool night air and leaned his head towards a grand cathedral just a mile or so away.

~ Talin did not like heights... so flying was not her idea of ... a good time... yet she felt safe with the Vampire.. a funny thought when one remembered that He.. was her enemy....

She did not like flying.. so when the cape suddenly released her.. her fear came to the surface and she screamed.. or at least she tried too.. her voice torn from her by the wind... yet it was only a moment later when His arms were about her... she.. without thinking... wrapped her own about Him.... her soft.. curved.. silken clad body pressing to His...

"Soo...a moonlit picnic atop a rooftop?"

She had come to rest in His arms this time.. facing Him.. clinging to Him.. she lifting her head to brush her lips to His ear..

"yes... I would much prefer that... Maiar... " She followed the slight cant of His head.. to see a grand cathedral in the distance.. looming in the night sky... the moon just above.. sending a haunting eerie light to bath the gothic building... what better a place.. she thought.. as she moves slightly against Him... the breeze lightly fluttering thru the crimson silk she wore...

It felt like just a moment later and they were there.. He setting His feet down upon the catherdral rooftop... she releasing her hold on Him.. as her own feet came to rest on the solid stone..
Stepping away... she reaches up and threads her fingers into and thru her red mane... shaking her head slightly... her face was a bit flush... approaching the edge.. she looked out at the dark view... even at night it was magnificent.. the moon setting a cool blueish hue over everything..

"how beautiful" she said outloud... ~

"how beautiful"

He turned to look at the view. He had been setting up the food for her, putting out this and that on the rooftop. He brought out enough for Talin to have her fill, there was no need for him to eat. He would feed later...some random villager most likely.

A chuckle escaped his lips.

"Indeed."

He stood, finished with his task, walking over to her, that cape wrapped around her again.

"I remember when back before this was built, during the construction, and after people stopped coming here..."

He thought back to times long gone. A faint smile came to his lips. Iliana liked this place too. It was peaceful...something the world was not...at least their world of violence and death.

"Come, I have prepared your meal."

He turned towards the meal, she followed, sitting down at the feast before her. He sat next to her, his cape once again covering Talin's small frame.

There were sandwiches, milk, cider, and homemade cookies. Not too grand of a feast, but it must have looked delicious to her...

"I know there must be other questions you wish of me..."

He nudged her, jokingly, but he really did miss this kind of companionship. It'd been a long time since he just talked with anyone, and a long time for an immortal is nearly an eternity for humans.

"I remember when back before this was built, during the construction, and after people stopped coming here..."

Talin turned to gaze up at the Vampire... she wondered just what He had seen in His lifetime.. what He had expierenced... that was one thing that hunters tended to forget about their vampire prey... more often than not.. the knowledge they carried was.. nothing short of amazing... she remembered her grandmother telling her grandfather that... her grandfather agreeing... He had been one of the few that actually would stop and *talk* to a Vampire.. of the oppertunity presented itself... instead of just hunting... her father as well...

As for the Cathedral and view.. Talin had never seen anything like it.. and from the moment she looked out over the landscape.. she loved it... if she could make it up here on her own... she would.. for this was a place she would like to come back to... often... if only just to think...

"Come, I have prepared your meal."

The food looked.. delicious.. and indeed she was starved... she could not even remember now when she last had a decent meal... often she was so busy... busy moving... busy hunting... busy killing.. that food seemed a waste of time... precious time she did not have...

She sat down on that Cathedral rooftop.. as the moon seemed to alight overhead to watch.. He sitting near her... His cape curling about her form... keeping her warm beneath...

As delicious as the food looked.. it tasted even better... and .. as she sat there thinking for a moment... she enjoyed it even more in the company of another.. even a Vampire...
She picked up a sandwich... pausing a moment to gaze at her bandanged hands... but she refused to think of what He had done to her .... she only wanted to focus on the here and now

"I know there must be other questions you wish of me..."

She turned her gaze to Him once more as He nudged her... she leaning over and nudging Him back for good measure...

"I have no wish to... interrogate You Maiar... You have alot of knowledge... expierence .. that I know I would love to know... but would rather just... talk... "

As she spoke... she reached out and laid her bandaged hand over His... His skin felt cool... so cool to the touch of her much warmer flesh...

"it has been a long time since I had... anyone... to share a meal with.. even if just for conversation... a long time since I talked to anyone that was not in relation to my....... hunting... "

She paused...

"Being alone ... being so lonely... has nearly driven me to my own death... perhaps that is why I am here with You... perhaps I just want it to end.. Maiar... and ....."

She stopped then.. looking down and away... but she did not remove her hand from His... and He felt that slight tremble.. ~

"Being alone ... being so lonely... has nearly driven me to my own death... perhaps that is why I am here with You... perhaps I just want it to end.. Maiar... and ....."

He stared down at her trembling form, a look of pity about his face.

"Dont give up now...you werent about to before."

Yes...before when he truly did act like the beast she called him. Maiar was better than that...wiser, stronger...stronger than the urges that filled him.

"I dont care to hear humans whine..."

A small sneer grew on his face.

"Be happy you have the choice to die a long time from now...old, wrinkled, and warm in your bed."

He looked up at the night sky...then back down to her hand.

"You're better than that Talin...dont lower yourself to begging for death like me."

His cape billowed out in a sudden gust, seeming to double in length before wrapping back around her slender form...the curves of her body melding with the silken fabric of his cape. That sneer transformed into a smile that wanted to become a smirk as the cloth slid across her delicate nipples beneath the ruby dress.

"Yes...much stronger infact..."

He tried to stiffle a low moan, closing his eyes a bit as the sensation caused by the cape shot through his body...warming the cold exterior of the vampire. He let out a deep sigh after the moan had subsided...gazing back down at her, those crimson orbs of his glazed over, thick with pleasure.

"You're better than that Talin...dont lower yourself to begging for death like me."

~ He was right... she hated when she let those dark feelings get to her... she hated whining.. as much as He did... as for begging for death... she had never considered His begging for death as a sign of being... weak... or lower... she saw it more as a sign of being .. tired... and He certainly had every right to be... tired.... more so than she...

The cape curled even tighter about her... molding to her very form.. He had obviously felt her shiver... the cape reacting... the material seeming almost alive... slithering across her body... clinging to her curves... in the chill she had become a bit more.. sensative.. in certain areas... and as the cape slid over her ... she let a soft sigh.. almost a moan... escape her lips... the heat from the cape felt like a warm glow over her form... touching her skin...

Talin heard His moan.. that He tried to quiet.. and when He turned those hazed crimson hued eyes to hers... she was looking up at Him... a little curious... but she had to quiet almost the same moan...

Her thoughts had been racing... over the fact that it had been so long since she let anyone... especially a male .. near her... even the Vampires she had been hunting had been raising a reaction in her as of late... she knew it was because she was alone.. alone and feeling it... why must she be the one alone... her father wasn't.. her grandfather wasn't... neither were the others in her ancestry that had hunted... always there were lovers... wives .. children... only she.. was the first... Daughter..... to hunt... It had always been a Son... but her mother had died long before another baby was born... Talin was the only one... It was up to her to carry on the hunt...

And Talin was too afraid of loving someone only to loose them to a Vampire... or worse... She had resigned herself to being alone...

Until now... as her eyes met those of the very enemy she hunted... and now... seemingly... was beginning to ... desire... ~

He could feel her nipples harden from the cold as if his own fingers were about them, his cape rippled a bit in a sudden breeze and he let an arm stretch out and wrap around her, pulling Talin close to him. The heat from before now radiating off of his skin.

Maiar leaned down towards her, his breath now warm as he sighed longingly...not even an inch from her very lips. The crimson dress she wore seemed to melt off of her form, dissappearing into a reddish mist that rose from her body.

He didnt care to question what was happening to him...the vampire simply knew that he was tired and lonely and that this girl...for whatever reason, caused him to completely succumb to his desire...his lust...and he loved it.

"Talin..."

Her name seemed to glide off of his serpentine tongue as his lips parted to kiss her...

~ He drew her close... she still gazing up at the handsome Vampire... when He was not amidst His rage... He had a regal... handsome face... and Talin found herself... staring.. and felt something deep inside beginning to awaken...

His head lowered .. even as her own lifted slightly...

"Talin..." Her name seemed to glide off of his serpentine tongue as his lips parted to kiss her...

Her eyes searched His... He was a monster to her only 24 hours ago.. yet as her name slipped from His lips... She saw none of that monster..

Her soft, moistened lips parted as His came down upon hers... a gentle moan quivering past.... she opened to the Vampire... instead of pulling away as perhaps she should have done... she leans into Him... letting her eyes close... her tongue and His meet.. entwine.. first within the warmth of her own mouth.. and then the cooler chill of His... she reaching up... slender fingers stroking into and thru His hair... her breathing deepeing slightly.. as she feels her body and His come together... her heartbeat increasing.. her warmth spreading over her flesh... She casts back the protests her logical mind was desperately trying to make.. and looses herself in the kiss...

His cape slithers about her now naked body... the softness clinging to her... her skin soft... supple... warm beneath the touch... her long red hair her only veil... falling down about her shoulders and back... she was completely vunerable to the Vampire... caught in His embrace... and Talin did not want it to end...

All those years of lonliness... all the expectations of being forever alone... seemed to fade in His embrace.. and she did not want to face those thoughts again.. ~

O.O.C.: Ready for another twist? ;)

------------------------------

I.C.:

The warmth of her moistened lips against his seemed to melt away the icy loneliness he had felt for so long. He hungered for more of this, this wonderful sensation...this blissful feeling. She did this to him, made him soft and tender again...made him more than a monster.

Her skin was so smooth, her scent so sweet...intoxicating. He had to lean back, take in the night air...he was lost in the lust he felt for this girl...and in that moment the sensation was shattered...an arrow tore through his back, protruding from his chest...barely missing her own bosom.

His back arched violently as he let out a howl that shook the cathedral, birds rose up from the forest in the distance as the hunters emerged around the two lovers.

"Quick, cut off his head!"

Obviously the leader, he yelled out from atop the roof. Two more appeared right next to them. Maiar looked to Talin, his eyes...sad...burning with rage. The hunters were fast though, and as one went to pluck Talin away distracting the vampire...another swung a heavy broad sword...severing Maiar's head from his body, his hand still reaching out to her as his head hit the rooftop.

"Haha! Take that ya bloodsucking scum!"

The sword slinger, cocky...thinking the fight was over...the night won, he clutched the decapitated head by it's silver hair.

"Are you alright?"

The one who grabbed her from what he thought was death's embrace asked her softly, wrapping a blanket around her naked form.

Shhh...my love...it's alright...

His voice was like a faint whisper in her mind as the blue night sky soon grew much much darker...

OOC: That is a HELL of a TWIST... Soru... WOW .. I Love it

*******************************************

~ It had all happened so fast... One moment.. Talin was feeling His kiss... tongues entwined.. tasting of one another, a sensation that, instead of replusing her, which had always happened when kissing a Vampire during her hunt, part of her luring techniques... His kiss had awakened a fire within her.. a warmth.. she wanted more.. so very much more from the Vampire that had very nearly ended her life by staking her to the wall just a night ago...

But it all happened so fast. The arrow penetrating thru His chest.. It was only His reaction.. pushing her back from His body, that had prevented that arrow from indeed slicing into her own chest... She knew that a Hunter SHOULD be more careful than that. Hurting or even killing an innocent was not acceptable when hunting...

His howl of pain and rage shook the rafters of the cathedral roof... She screamed out for Him.. her own voice lost in His howl, the Hunters not even hearing her.

She was snatched from His arms...

"Quick, cut off his head!"

"Nooooooooooo" she screamed...

NO?? She would have been the one cutting off His head.. why was she screaming NO... because He had gotten to her... she realized then and there... her grandmother was right... She was meant to be with Him.. that thought hit her harder than the sword that quickly and easily lopped off Maiar's head with a sickening thud...

Talin managed to look away just as it happened... burying her head against the soldier that held her... Maiar's reaching hand... reaching to her.. fell to the cathedral rooftop... His body limp... dead...

"Haha! Take that ya bloodsucking scum!"

Talin did not even hear the cocky soldier as He snarled at the dead Vampire... she would not even look, she could not. She shook violently in the arms of the one holding her.

"Are you alright?"

The one who grabbed her from what he thought was death's embrace asked her softly, wrapping a blanket around her naked form.

She grabbed the blanket.. wrapping it about her body. Was she alright... NO.. she wasn't... but she also knew better. IF she came across as a, sympathizer, these Soldiers may think nothing of raping and killing her. With the excuse that she were *one* of them. Them being Vampire. No one would question them. They were Hunters.

Shhh...my love...it's alright...

His voice was like a faint whisper in her mind as the blue night sky soon grew much much darker...

She did not answer the Soldier... instead she heard Maiar.. deep in her mind... her breath caught... and she clung to the Soldier.. not out of fear.. but His voice in her mind made her shiver... tremble.. she was unsure just what was happening.. and hung onto the Soldier for support...

She noticed first.. as the Commander descended from his perch... that the moon seemed to be fading.. the night growing much... darker.. colder.. she drawing the blanket about herself for warmth.. let along to keep those roving eyes off her... She was set down.. they obviously had no idea who she was, and she was not about to tell them. She just decided to play dumb for the moment and stay quiet.. dwelling on the words she had heard in her head..

One came over to her.. the one that had lopped off Maiar's head. Stooping down, he grabs her bandanged hands.

"Commander, look at this, her hands are wounded, not her throat. I don't think He bit her. But what is this?" He talking like she did not understand.

She yanks her hands back.. hiding them under the blanket.. "leave me alone" she hisses... staring at the Soldier.. then at the approaching Commander... "Call your damned dogs off.. I am fine.. OK".. she snaps ~

O.O.C.: *Bows* I try.

------------------------------

I.C.:

The commander moved to swat at Talin like some peasant girl out of her bounds. He raised a hand high into the air, his face showed no emotion. The others looked down at her, awaiting the strike.

However it did not come. The man stood, stiff and unwavering.

"What's wrong boss?"

The soft spoken one holding Talin said.

A line of blood ran across the hunter's neck...and soon as he uttered his last breath the head fell to the floor, rolling off of the roof the body soon to hit the rooftop.

"Dont...touch...HER!"

The cocky soldier gasped as he realized the head he had been carrying melted into cool icy blood.

"Wha?!"

They both looked around, the soft spoken one set Talin down carefully before standing up, drawing his own blade.

"What's going on!? Isnt he dead?!"

The men stood back to back on the rooftop, looking around frantically. It was too late for them though...Maiar was furious...his animal side taking over...

Thousands of bats exploded from every crevice of the cathedral, swarming around the two men, scratching...cutting...biting at them. The darkness of the winged animals seemed to devour them.

...and then he was there, his cape flowing elegantly in the night. He stood between Talin and the men, his back to her. They could see him through the ravaging bats...they moved backwards, their screams caught in their throats.

His movements were fast and precise. An arm swung out, ripping the cocky one's head clean off, the bottom jaw hanging from it. He then swung his cape around, it straightening out to form a wing-like appendage as it cut into the quiet ones side, tearing him in two.

Blood flew everywhere and Maiar, lost in his rage, lifted the soldier's head, letting the blood run into his open mouth..he drank hungrily, those eyes of his still burning with anger and hatred...

~ He was going to... STRIKE her.. what kind of hunter was this.. but Talin refused to look away, staring straight into the man's eyes... It was she that actaully saw it first, in the Commander's eyes. The flash of pain, fear, and knowing. A moment later and all hell broke loose on that holy rooftop.

The bats decending on the now confused Soldiers.. they were all around her as well.. yet not one touched her..

Talin's eyes widened as she realized what was happening.. He was NOT dead... but... how????? Even her own mind was wondering.. She had seen that arrow peirce His chest. Had heard, she refusing to look, the Soldier cut off His head. Then His words came into her mind once more..

Shhh...my love...it's alright...

He stood between her and the Soldiers.. His cape billowing around Him...

Talin shifted back, away from the carnage that was happening ... She turning away from the screams of the Soldiers.. her mind was screaming.. they were only doing their jobs... But.. He was going to strike her.. and that was not right.. there was something not right about this group of Hunters... that was why Talin had not told them who she was.. had not said much of anything.. something about them.. was as evil as the Vampire... and was that Vampire really the evil one??? but.. that was a mute point now...

They were all dead... Maiar was standing before her.. HIs head tipped back.. blood pouring from the severed head.. the torn carotid.. and jugular.. of the Soldier that had ... supposedly... cut His own head off.. and He was drinking deeply...

Talin swallowed quietly.. and did not move... except for her breathing... it was a good thing she had seen her share of blood and ... death... for if she had not.. surely she would be screaming at the carnage that lay upon that roof right now... screaming at the site of Him.. feeding .. as He was.. but she had seen it before.. perhaps not so...graphically happening right before her... but she was calm enough... at least for the moment..

When that head was drained of blood... He turns His gaze down to her... Blood dripped from His lips... from His claw like fingers... had splashed all over Him... His eyes were on fire once more.. she knew that look... that rage... that.. hatred.. that *Beast*... she had seen it close up.. when He staked her to the wall with her own stake.. and axe...

Had she cowered from Him... perhaps that would have set Him off.. had she flinched.. or worse... tried to fight... perhaps that would have set Him off... instead she stayed still... staring up at Him...

"Maiar" she whispers... ever so softly... ~

*********************

There was a Soldier left.. a young one.. who had been making his way down to the foot of the Castle just as Maiar had first been attacked.. when the counter attack happened.. that Soldier had played it smart and stayed hidden.. silently he had turned.. and come back up the winding staircase.. it had taken him what felt like forever to avoid the creaking steps.. to stay silent as the others screamed from the rooftop.. when He peeked thru that door.. unseen.. what He saw was horrendous... and the young one almost lost his lunch.... he saw the girl.. she looking up at the Vampire... the girl was unharmed.. the Soldier did not like what he was seeing... but he watched.. undetected.. ~

**************************

O.O.C.: Thoughts? Heh, Maiar's thoughts are quite obvious lol. Mine however are still being fleshed out. LoL

I.C.:

He took a moment, closing his eyes as his name slipped quietly from her lips. That cape of his crept around him, covering Maiar in it's dark embrace.

After a few minutes, the cape slowly unwound about him, revealing a very clean and unbloodied vampire. His steps brought him closer to her, his eyes were now soft, that red blaze from before long gone.

"Im...sorry for that..'display'. They would have harmed you...or worse."

He reached out his pale hand to her.

"I wont hurt you, I promise..."

~ His cape slithered up and around Him... almost as if alive... and when He emerged from it's embrace... His eyes no longer held that *beast* that she was beginning to know so well... the crimson fire had dimmed to a much calmer glow...

"Im...sorry for that..'display'. They would have harmed you...or worse."

Talin took a deep breath... He... He had been protecting her... that was what brought forth His rage... the beast.. was the threat to HER... not Himself...

The question came... a question to herself moreso than to Him.. how had they known where they were?.. had they been tracking Him? or worse.. her?

He held His hand out to her..

"I wont hurt you, I promise..."

She did not hesitate.. reaching up to lay her hand into His... He helping her to her feet... the blanket still curled around her... she glancing at the bodies.. again glad that blood did not make her squeamish in the least bit... she then turned her gaze to Him...

"I know Maiar.. " she whispers.. stepping into His arms... feeling the Cape curl about her protectively..."but.. how.. the arrow.. went right thru You... that Soldier.. cut off Your head.. how? Did You.. do this?"

"And how, did they know we were up here?"

Maiar smiled down to her as she moved against him. He ran a hand through her soft tresses, something about that calmed him even more.

..."but.. how.. the arrow.. went right thru You... that Soldier.. cut off Your head.. how? Did You.. do this?"

He sighed, thinking back to years past. The many hunters he slayed, the many that attempted to slay him. His birth...His mother...

"I will tell you...but let us leave this place. It is no longer safe here."

He lifted from the rooftop, carrying her in his arms as he ascended the sky. Finally, far above the clouds and drifting in the twilight he spoke once again...telling her of his past.

"I was born before even your first ancesotors...the product of an unholy union between Lucifer, the devil...and Lilith, the first human woman to breath life. I, Talin, am the first vampire to ever come into existence."

He gave her a moment to take in the information.

"I am gifted with many powers...most none will ever have again, as well as no weaknesses of my kin save for the sunlight. The only weapon God has produced that can harm me. However, all of this comes with a price as is the way of the Morning Star*. When I die, whenever that may be...I will fall victim to every single one of Hell's tortures again and again for the rest of Eternity."

He looked out to the horizon below, eventually continuing his story.

"As for the hunters..."

He opened his palm, revealing a golden cross...which harmed him not. It hung about the neck of the soft spoken soldier.

"They are from Rome..the Vatican to be more precise. Sent by the Pope to kill me...just like all the others. I've been hunted since my birth Talin...before even God's son roamed this planet...by the Church in one form or another."

He sighed deeply now...

"...a 'plague unto this world' is what they call me. The son of the Devil himself. I've fought in wars of men, destroyed entire civilizations, and even killed angels."

She looked suprised at this. Who wouldnt...

"Yes, sent by God to kill me. Beings who answer to no human but can be harmed like one just as easily. They are fragile just like humans as long as your tear away their wings..."

He hovered through the darkness of night, finally looking down to her...wondering how she took all this in.

"Im cursed and blessed all at once. A wonderful terrible never ending existence."

~ Talin listened to His words... As He told her of who He was.. what He was.. She was shocked, her face told of that shock, but she did not say anything. She needed to listen, process, think. She had sensed something different about this Vampire. Now she knew she had been right. So very right.

As His words faded into the darkness that surrounded them.. she was held within His arms, facing Him. And as He spoke, it was His face, His eyes, that she had watched.

Silence hung there for many moments. Her mind was busy going over what He had said. No wonder He harbored such a beast inside Him. Between the desperate lonliness, and the horror of what He was, the abomination of even killing angels, to remain even remotely sane one would have to have another side to Himself. When her grandmother had spoke of her other love, the beast that Talin saw was never mentioned. But perhaps He kept it hidden from her. Iliana may not have handled it as well as she, herself, is able to.

She had looked away and closed her eyes as she thought.. she finally opening them once more... the slightest cant to her head as she looked within His gaze....

"thank You" she whispers... "Thank You for.. saving me from them, and for.. " she pauses .. resting her bandaged palm to His face.. she moving slightly against Him as He held her... she certainly did not want to look down.. she did not even want to think about being up there.. "and for telling me... You.. begged me to kill You... but all You really wanted was to be free'd from this hellish existance of lonliness... "

"I can't kill You to free You... Maiar... but... maybe I can do something else"

Her voice was barely a whisper.. she could not believe she was thinking what she was thinking.. but it felt right... for some reason.. deep inside her... it felt right... ~

~ The Young Soldier watching.. stared as the girl willingly.. WILLINGLY.. stepped into the monster's embrace.. was she one of them??? He wasn't sure.. if she had been why hadn't the others killed her when the chance came up? He did not understand...

He stepped back into the shadows.. when they were gone He descended the stairs... He had to tell His General.. they had to know this turn of events... perhaps.. once they figure out who that red head was.. they could use her to get to the Monster.. ~
