To Please Him

He sighed. "I have had women I have dated, but none have ever come close to what i have in mind as my ideal woman. Oh I know she is out there," He looked down and mumbled to himself,"Hell I even know where she is."

Looking back at her he smiled again even though it didn't reach his eyes."Well aren't we a pair. Perhaps we should go out together seeing as we both seem to be in the same boat." Secretly he was hoping she would say yes even if it was under false pretenses. he would take her anyway he could.

"Go out? Like a date kind of thing?" She asked hoping she didn't sound too excited. "I mean I guess since I'm sing and your single and we clearly have no intentions of dating other people..." She said "it could be fun..."

She had agreed. My god she had agreed. He wondered how much more he could push it. "Okay then but we will have to treat it like a real date then. That means we do it properly. All the natural things you would do on a date. Holding hands, hugging and even kissing. In fact I tell you what. We are already out at a nice restaurant and the night is young. how about we start our date now," he smiled.

"Kissing? You want to kiss me?" She said a little unsure of what was going on "Are you sure about that? You really don't have to do that. I know you don't think about me that way..."

God if she only knew he thought. His problem would be controlling himself enough when he did. "Sarah if we are going to do this we are going to do it right. I mean you are in the same boat right, you don't feel that way about me, still if we are going to be on a date we have to do what we would normally do."

Sarah to took a deep breath "that's not true. I don't know why you think that but it isn't true at all. Where did you get that idea?" Sarah began fiddling with her napkin, a nervous habit.

Jason was confused. What wasn't true. The fact that they should behave like they were on a proper date. He sighed again. Damn. He really thought he had been going to get away with it. "Okay Sarah, what do you mean by that's not true? Tell me what I have done wrong this time. You know me, I am always putting my foot in it somehow," he chuckled.

Sarah took a deep breath as she thought about what to say. Was she really going to tell him, what if it didn't go well. She had already told him that she had lied about her experience with men. "What isn't true is that I don't like you." Sarah admitted.

Jason was stunned and left speechless for a minute. She liked him and if he read the situation right she actually liked him in a boyfriend/girlfriend type of way. he couldn't believe this. he had loved her for so long and had pushed his feelings down deep and he would bet she had done the same.

They had been fools. He looked at her and chuckled and then stopped when he saw a hurt look appear on her face. "Oh no Sarah I am not laughing at you believe me. I would never do that, I am laughing at myself. Do you know how long I have loved you and not said a word about it because I did not want to loose your friendship. You always just seemed to want to be friends and nothing more so I took what I could get. To think we could have been together I don't know how many years ago. That is what I am laughing at."

"Maybe it was for the best. I probably would have still moved for that job and we would have broken up and then I wouldn't be here now. You would have moved on and I would do the same." She said "I'm sorry I never said anything to you before."

"Well we know now and that's the main thing and I suppose you are right about everything else. The thing now is do you want to go out on a date with me Sarah or not, and I do mean a proper date. Oh and now that I know you like me I may even try to get you to like me enough so i can invite you back to my place for a nightcap so be careful."

"I suppose I could go out on a date with you, if you really insist." She said "I don't think you need to try too hard to get me to like you enough... I already like you quite a lot. I've liked you for years..."

He smiled. "Well then it's settled. Tonight is now our first official date. I am glad we are all dressed up and didn't decide to just go out for a burger." He decided on the spur of the moment and he stood up and leaned over giving her a quick but pleasant kiss on the lips. "You have no idea how long I have wanted to do that, and maybe later we can do more. For now though it looks like our dinner is here."

Sarah blushed, her face quickly reaching a deep shade of red. She wasn't exactly sure what he meant when he said they could do more later but she had a feeling axe was definitely on his mind. What if she was terrible at it, she didn't know what she was doing. What if she couldn't live up to his expectations. "Thanks for dinner...." She said not able to come up with anything better to say before she ate a bite of her food. "It's good."

Jason saw her blush bright red and found it cute. Just another reason for him to love her. He tucked into his food but hardly tasted it. He was too busy looking at her and dreaming about all the time they had wasted. She had said she would have moved anyway and they would have probably broken up then but she would have been wrong. Jason would have gone with her or made her stay. That was what would have happened. He had always known they belonged together and now they finally could be. As for sex well he would wait until she was comfortable about it. After all he had waited this long for her, what was a bit longer.

Sarah continued to eat her meal in silence as a thousand more questions rolled through her head. "what happens if we break up?" She asked finally breaking the silence "Are we just dating? Or is this more?"

Jason looked at her and saw that she was actually serious. "Sarah I won't lie to you. I have loved you for a very long time but never thought we would ever get together. I would like to say we will be together forever but we really have never actually dated so we have no idea how this will go. I would like to think we will find it easy and we will be together forever but you never know with these things. How about we just try dating for now and see what happens?"

"Yeah, that's fine... That makes sense..." She said before turning her attention back to her meal "I'm not very good at this kind of thing. I never thought we would be anything but friends... It's going to take some time to get used to it..."

"Sarah we have been friends for ages. If we start there things can't go wrong. Just let your natural feelings out a little more. That's what I will be doing. No longer will I have to stop myself from saying how sexy you look in something, or that I wish I could kiss you because of something amazing you had come up with. You have no idea how many times that has happened over the years. Now I can stroll with you arm in arm or maybe with my arm around your waist. just do what you think is right is all I am saying Sarah and don't over think it."

"Alright... Do I get to know what your mysterious after dinner plans are now?" She asked "Or is that still classified information? Can I know please..." She begged, giving him her best sad face.

"Oh god Sarah you know I can't resist that look, that's playing dirty," he chuckled. "Fine I was planning on taking you dancing, if you felt up to it, or a walk along the riverside if you didn't hence the shoes. Oh and I don't mean nightclubbing. There is a nice place not far from here that plays jazz and swing music and the old big band stuff. I seem to recall you saying something about liking that type of music and dancing," he grinned.

"Maybe we could go dancing on our second date... Right now just talking a walk with you sounds pretty nice." She said "Tonight has been a bit overwhelming, a quiet walk would be a great way to end the evening."

"Sure, i have no problems with that. Let's just pay our bill and head on over then shall we. I am sure we will have a lot to talk about. After all we have a lot of catching up to do," he smiled at her. He smiled and signaled the waiter.

"Thanks for dinner." She said once the bill was paid and they were on their way out "I really appreciate it." The rest of the time she was pretty silent. They got in his car and once again drove off. Before she knew it they had stopped. Getting out she realized it was a bit chilly and she had forgotten her shawl at home.

Jason saw her shiver slightly and looked for her shawl. Not seeing it he took of his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. "Silly, I told you to bring it. Still you look fabulous in my jacket as well," he complimented her as they walked into the park. It was well lit and well patrolled so they really had nothing to fear. The fact that Jason had studied martial arts since he was a kid probably helped too.

He shyly reached out and grabbed her hand, holding it loosely to see what she would do as they walked. "So tell me a little bit more of what you have been up to Sarah. There had to have been some good things in the last few years that have happened to you."
