Today is special

I made my Sunday visit to my grandmother this morning. She was cognizant and almost totally aware of what was going on around her. When I held her hand she smiled at me. That made it a good day.

Small beautiful moments stitched together make a life quilt.

Hooray!

My beloved brother-in-law is home from Iraq! Sounded so happy on the phone when I spoke to him and couldn't believe the changes he came home to.

The 3 year old daughter he left was now a 4 year old daughter, going to school and teaching him Italian. (They're stationed in Italy and she's going to an Italian Catholic school....cool!)

The 6 week old son he left was now a 6 month old son and smiled the instant he heard his Daddy's voice. "How do they know?" he asked me. The only thing I could come up with was Love.

The wife he left behind, could barely leave the house for social anxiety disorders and upon seeking treatment and medication was now outgoing and had made several friends in his absence.

He says to me:

"The world I left was more than I ever could have asked for and one I cherished and missed dearly every day I was away. But the one I came back to is beyond imagination and I hope I never have to leave again."

Bittersweet. He's an F-16 pilot and will most likely spend many more months away before all is said and done. But for now, they are all together safe and happy and this brings me immeasurable joy.

Lucky, that is indeed very special. Thanks for sharing, I can feel the joy of your family from here. :)

Congratulations, Joe!

That is awesome! Good on you.

I feel very good, now, for Lucky and her family, Will and his beautiful memories, and Joe's special win. Bless you all. I'm about to enter my day with trepidation, and a little joy.

Perdita :)

Today was my first day on my own on the first job I've had in ten years.

It feels really good to be able to do something productive again.

A shout of congratulations to Sub Joe and rgraham666, and hooray for Lucky's BIL coming home!

Thursday night I sprained hell out of my shoulder while learning a self defense move in Taekwondo but it didn't start hurtng until Saturday. Meanwhile, I'd forgotten about the incident and couldn't think for the life of me what I'd done to bring this on. The pain starts somewhere deep in my upper back on the left side and radiates through my shoulder and down my right arm. I have been unable to sleep decently for two nights, because there is no position I can put my arm in that it doesn't hurt like hell. I went to the McClinic in my old neighborhood on the way home from church yesterday and was given an anti-inflammatory but nothing else. Today I went back there and was given a prescription for Lortabs, and now I am feeling somewhat good for the first time in 3 days.

Don't ya just love how they (medical folk) hand out anti-inflammatories as the cure all for pain? I feel for ya' Slick and have been there. Glad they finally got you some relief. Sleep well.

Lucky's brother-in-law is safely home. That's worth a lifetime of bumped threads.

16 MARCH

16th March 1963 - Peter, Paul and Mary released the single, "Puff The Magic Dragon". Through the years, controversy continually surrounded the song. It was banned by several radio stations whose management figured that the song was about the illicit joys of smoking marijuana. The group denied this startling assumption. “It’s about a magic dragon named Puff,” they said.

Today I reach 1000 posts. This is how Sherpa Tensing must have felt.*

*He used the nom de plume "YakMan" on lit. Most of his stories featured yaks in some way

Lucky, happy to hear of your families joy. Immeasurable for the children, I know from experience.

But for each serviceman or woman, who happily comes home after a long tour away, there is another one who has gone to take their place.

Other children without a parent, albe-it not permanent, (we hope) another sacrifice made by servicemen and women in the name of freedom!

OK, now let's stop while we're ahead and not get into a Lew&Lou routine :D

I thought my ears were burning. Anyway, you got it wrong, it's Lou & Lew. :p

Lou ;)

Oh, stop it, or I'll start acting like a good girl! :p

Anyway, back to the "today is special" thread...

One reason (of many) for why today is special for me, is because my parents have finally managed to sort out some very long standing problems they had been going through. For the first time today, in what seems like ages, my Mum phoned me up in a very happy mood. I feel so relieved now. Their worries are always my worries.

Thanks Lew! It is a sad state of affairs that there are so many occupations that require people to be away from their loved ones. My brother-in-law is one of many loved ones my family and friends must live without at times. It is very frightening and lonely most times and keeping up with the news is almost unbearable. But each of these men and women are special and unique and should receive as much understanding as you show. Thanks. It means a lot.

Today is special for me because I received an unexpected and very titillating phone call. I am now all warm and tingly and glad the day didn't pass without something special.

edited to add: Thank you all so much for your kind words and well wishes for my family's little triumphs. It's nice to know my little world-wide cyber family is there for me and please know I appreciate and smile for all of your little triumphs as well.
