Hello everyone. I'm looking at getting a tongue piecing this week. I've done a good bit of research on risks and side effects. I've talked with friends who have had it done. I've bought enough soup to feed me for 2 weeks of healing ;)

My question is, does anyone have any incite on what studs I might want to look into? What do ladies prefer the most? A plain metal bar or something special?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Please post your own experiences!

For the first two weeks you should have a longer bar, after that you can change it anyways. My ex girlfriend seemed to enjoy the shorter bar with plastic screw-on balls the best... :catroar:

thinking about getting a tongue piercing...

Just my opinion, if your oral techniques pleases the ladies don't fix it. My husband had one and I was glad when he took it out. I prefered his tongue just the way it was.

I have my tongue pierced, I got it done because ever since I was in public school I always chewed on things and the tongue ring helps with the oral fixation. Honestly my husband likes my BJ's better without the ring in most of the time.

I would suggest using plastic balls as soon as the healing period is up and as long as your tongue can handle them, I chipped my tooth on a metal ball about 3 weeks after I got mine done. Also if your changing your metal bar to a plastic or other material bar, watch yourself with it, I can't use plastic bars in my tongue because it swells up like it did when I first gone mine done. I love the bars with ridges in them it's a cool feeling in your tongue (they are metal) I also really enjoy my slave ring, and it helps to keep me from eating snacks at work (it's got a small bar through the middle of the top ball with spikes on each end and a hoop that goes over the top ball)

I hope you don't mind me adding this but do any ladies (or guys w/ experience) have any tips or tricks to make BJ's better WITH the tongue ring???

alrighty..... here we go....

tongue piercing is not always accompanied by swelling. some people have absolutely no swelling at all, and are able to change to a shorter bar very quickly.
conversely, some people swell horrendously, need to take anti-inflammatories for 2 or more weeks, and find they can't change to a shorter bar for weeks.

you need to get pierced with a longer bar (18-20mm) initially, and then once your tongue has settled down, you change to a bar that is sized for you (typically between 11 and 14mm).
when you first get pierced, it can take a while for your mouth to settle with a foreign object in your tongue - you may find you salivate a lot, you might have issues with the bar moving considerably which can result in biting the bar and chipping teeth (this risk should stop completely once you are correctly sized down to the shorter bar), and you might find your tongue re-swells repeatedly for up to a couple of months (this is extremely uncommon.)

you need to be aware of sharing anything - no ciggy sharing, no drinking or eating from the same utensils as other people, and no kissing for the first two weeks.
and very important - NO BEER! beer has active yeast, and you could end up with thrush in your mouth.

you might want to consider getting CEPACAINE MOUTHWASH - it has antibacterial as well as anaesthetic properties. (a small capful, 5 ml, after everything you eat or drink for the first few days is advisable. note: no other brand is acceptable!) after that, use sea-salt rinses - 1/4 teaspoon to 1 cup water (no more than that, it will be too drying)
perhaps consider using NUROFEN (ibuprofen) to help control swelling, and if you can't take ibuprofen, allow ice-chips to rest on the surface of your tongue several times a day.

if you need more info, pm me :)

i swelled for about 4 days and couldnt eat. now, i forget i even have it. i can wear any jewerly and it doesnt bother me... it all depends on the person

Thank you everyone, especially you Warrior Queen.

I'm going to get it done today, and if I can find a camera I'll take pics!

I have a tongue ring, and I love it. I recommend using Biotene mouthwash diluted with 1 parts water 3-5 times a day for the first week, then twice a day for the second. A solution of water and sea salt in the same frequency. Also, YOU HAVE TO EAT. I didnt eat anything but liquids, and it hadnt healed much the first week. It may be a little sour, but you've gotta try to eat solids (chicken, etc.). As for plastic vs. metal, I prefer metal. I haven't chipped a tooth, nor do I have any cavities. I much prefer it (feels more solid, doesnt fade as quickly, longer lasting IMHO).

i don't want to be a bitch or anything....
but unless you are actually a bodypiercer, advice on what mouthwash or aftercare to use when pierced is of little value.

and as for the eating thing.... i tell all my tongue piercing clients to take it as slow as they feel they need - if they can't eat solid food for a week, that's fine.
if they can't do it for 2, that's fine also.
and if they have a hamburger the night they get pierced, then that's perfectly ok also.
healing is NOT dependent on what you eat!

I loved my experiences with my partners who had tongue rings. Just watch when you're licking that the bar/ball doesn't get stuck under a girl's clit, that kinda hurts when shes over stimulated.

other then that... keep it clean, and I heard plastic balls keep chipping teeth to a min.

The only reason I wouldn't get one for myself is because I play a woodwind instrument in an orchestra .. I'd rather not relearn over 15 years of tongue tricks.

I have 2 friends that got their's done. One had tons of swelling and the other didn't. The site i recommend to check out is www.bmezine.com it has awesome picture, glossorys, health risk stuff, stories on all peircings and a lot of tattoo stuff. one key thing about plastic/acrilic balls and bars is they can harbor germs real well also make sure that your bar is interanlly threaded... (theres threading into the bar not the ball, they say is holds less germs) i wish you luck

I pierced my tongue during my first year in college and eventually gauged it up to 8. Use mouthwash on a regular basis and get a plastic bar and ball bearings so that your mouth doesn't react to the metal. If you do get metal, get stainless steel. Avoid giving oral sex, smoking, and drinking for the first week and brush your teeth everytime after you eat and use mouthwash 5-6 times a day spread out. You won't have to eat only soup, just keep rinsing your mouth. BTW, oral piercings are the safest piercings because of the awesome healing power of the mouth and a tongue piercing should recover in less than 6 weeks. Navel piercings are the worst, taking around 6 months or more to fully heal.

please check all your facts before posting.
thankyou.

So I got it done, it's been a week to the day. Everything has gone well. It was swollen like a mother (and still is a little bigger than normal). I was eating normal foods the next day at a slow pace. Now I'm fine to eat pretty much anything. Very happy with it so far.

Now to find it's first victim! ;)
