The "baby carrots" sold in supermarkets, are often not from a smaller cultivar of carrot, but are simply full-sized carrots that have been sliced and peeled to make carrot sticks of a uniform shape and size.
 
How poignant your post was, I've just watched the news where it was reported that 12 inches fell in 24 hours. My brother lives in Cumbria and I must phone him!

We have relatives in England, living to the north and northeast of London. We visited for 10 days in 2007 and it was sunny and in the 70's every day. They were amazed as this was about the only time that year it wasn't raining....:)
