I’m not so sure. I’ve posted, as have others, multiple times just how slim of a margin Trump won by. I do not see where it could have increased his margins in those swing states. Quite the opposite has occurred, each of those states have trended more blue since 2016.

Another thing is, Biden is simply not hated like Hillary was. There has not been the decades long propaganda machine hitting Biden. Hillary was being bashed by all sides. I believe a large part of the was due to sexism.

Hillary’s campaign also could have done much better. Not just appearing physically in swing states, but their voter outreach over all was seriously lacking compared to past campaigns. Without getting in the thick of it, and using terminology must won’t understand, they just plain dropped the ball on voter outreach/contacts.

The trouble with your assessment, Aglaopheme, is that it makes too much sense. And anything that makes sense will get ridiculed on this board.

After the last election, I'm not banking on anything. We need to mobilize every voter possible, convince every voter sitting on the fence that Trump is the huge danger to this country that he is. I'm not totally invested in Biden, but unlike previous elections, I can not throw my vote to a third-party candidate on principal. If the Donald loses by a huge margin, if he gets hammered in the election, so much the better.

But we CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT assume he is going to lose, become lackadaisical and complacent on the basis of some damned poll. That happened last time. We can not afford to let it happen this time.

I suspect all Biden needs to do is to remain bland and not too vocal. Don't give people enough to build a strong feeling about you, it's sensible tactics when faced with someone so polarising. Instead of butting horns, just sidestep.

That's where Hillary screwed up. Well... that and being so unlikable. And female.

The lack of campaign rallies is working to Biden's advantage. He tends to be a gaffe machine that takes away from his message. Trump is strongest in that setting - in front of adoring fans. It creates a lot of energy in his base. He can say whatever he wants and his fans eat it up. He flounders in one on one interviews though, even in Fox News interviews.

Covid-19 is what is beating Trump. It was supposed to go away during the summer months, but instead is still dominating the news. Trump isn't getting the mostly unfiltered coverage of adoring fans cheering him on every day like he did in 2016. Biden isn't in front of hearings answering for his email server, etc. like Hillary.

Also, Trump doesn't have Hillary underwhelming at her rallies. Biden has a whole lot more charisma in settings like that than she ever did.

If Covid-19 is still dominating the news cycle in September and October, and keeping Trump mostly off the campaign trail, it's going to be hard for him to overcome his current poll numbers.
