Just some etymology for you peeps to chew over. Well, sorta etymology. Got inspired by AFM's kaput.

German words used in English

uber=over
kaput=broken
shrapnel=shards
achtung=warning

German can sound really funky. Es ist ein schone sprache. I couldn't help but giggle at 'Mein Auto ist kaput!' when I was learning German though. Tis just funny. It's fun to say though, especially if you breathe in helium first. So hilarious!

Etymology? Isn't that bugs and stuff?

My father picked up a few German phrases during his govenment-sponsored tour of western Europe (1943-45) which he used around the house occasionally. I've no idea how they should be spelled, though. "Mach schnell!" and "Aus dein!" are about all I remember; context was everything. Does all German end with an exclamation point?

Etymology is language roots.

Mach schnell! means 'do it quickly'. 'Aus dein!' means.. well, to yours, but 'aus' is like a (with grave on top) in French. It means so meany things. The reason why you think it has exclamation points is because these phrases are all imperatives, which traditionally end in exclamation points. It's the same in French.

China's worse though. In the summer, it's so hot you sit inside all day with air conditioning on so high you get a cold. In the winter, it's so cold, you put the heating on so high you sweat all the time. Crazy! But that's just parts of China. Tropical China is warmer, I imagine, but I'm from the north.

Nasty freezing weather outside, I'm staying in & ordering food

Glad I don't have to work over the weekend, it'll let me make a start on my Christmas shopping (not going to have much chance over the next 3 weeks as Christmas hours start at on Monday ). On the plus side, that means overtime, which means more money to buy pressies with Still no idea what I'm buying anyone though!
