Ah, WW!

Just you and me, joined by a few trillion electrons and a drop or two of baby oil!

I don't think baby oil's very good for your computer

Help? COOL! Here, take a little squirt of oil and just rub it in where every you think it's needed....

Ouch Zuke!!

I bashed my head twice in quick succession yesterday and it bloody hurt. First I lifted up the boot/trunk on the car but not far enough and whacked my head on the locking mechanism. Then as soon as I got home I was lying on the bed chatting to the other half. I put my head back as I laughed and hit it on the corner of the chest of drawers by the foot of the bed.

I was quite surprised not to get any comments about knocking some sense into me :D

Frankly, I think that's absolutely ridiculous. America has an awful reputation as being a country full of idiots. These kinds of laws really don't help. Creationism and evolution should be taught. But honestly, scientists are as certain about evolution as they are about continental drift. Most people can see and believe in continental drift, but I suppose it's too threatening to easily see and believe in evolution. Evolution is recognised as a fact, actually, but natural selection is a theory, which makes a whole lot of sense, given our knowledge of genes and the way we pass on our genes. What do they teach in American schools then? I mean, if people don't know where America is on a map.. they can't be studying Geography, can they? I mean, it's pretty fundamental..looking at a globe. I can't remember where I heard it, but apparently they think Russia is where America is, because it's the biggest country. I expect Americans know some history (about their own country, but I guess not very much about other countries). I think it's bad enough that people don't learn about the ancient China and middle-eastern civilisations. I was absolutely horrified by Robert Kilroy-Silk's attack on the middle-east. What has the Middle-East given to us? Just because a country is no longer a superpower doesn't mean it isn't worthy of respect. People forget that when we write this: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 we are using something that arabs gave us (I'm probably using wrong terminology, but hey, I'm no expert!). The problem is, the Western world believes they invented most things, but quite often credit isn't given where it's due. Like, with Pascal's Triangle, somebody came up with it before Pascal (in China, actually), but Pascal will be the one who's known for it in the west, so people in the west will think that they thought of it first. I think education should definitely encourage learning about other cultures more. It is too important to miss out on. Apparently, in America, they show very little foreign news too. And they drink tons of Diet Coke (which contains aspartame!!! Tip for today: DON'T DRINK DIET COKE! Or anything that claims to have no sugar, but is still sweet. It's very, very bad for you).

/Random rant over

By the way, I'm ill (AGAIN!). I got your cold too, Plas. And a sore, croaky throat. Doctor wouldn't prescribe me anything, because it's viral. Damn viruses!!!!! I hate viruses!!!!!! Bacteria are much nicer--they help you (sometimes--but especially in recombinant DNA technology), and they're easier to control. Viruses are just annoying. VERY annoying. We can only be vaccinated against viruses, and vaccines aren't always the safest things.

Apparently, some people believe Illuminati are controlling the world through vaccination....!

The western world is filled with arrogance and stupidity. Just look at everything that happened in our world since the western superpowers came into dominance. Basically we're all pretty stupid but america's blind, unquestioning, desperation to avoid change and keep to a tired and foolish tradition of sexism, violence and intelectual destruction. Any country where religion is EXPECTED for a citizen is asking for trouble because it inhibits actions, thoughts and speach. After all, if you have a good idea but it might touch on the idea of god, you're going to be attacked by the majority of the population.

Sorry you got my cold Marsi, all I can offer is my sympathy and a handy ship and crew. We can shrink to the size of a bloodcell and with the aid of micro lasers, enter your body and vaporise all elements of the virus. :D

No, I'm sorry.... Marsi and Plas just make my head hurt this morning  Morning all !:D

Yeah, morning everyone.. gah. Hate being ill!! It's silly, I always seem to start up these long-winded discussions on this thread. By the way, aren't these new smilies so cool???   :cattail: :cathappy: :catroar: :(

Alas, you'll have to be even smaller than a blood cell (red blood cell?) otherwise you'll miss the virus. Viruses are nasty things. They're really, really sneaky. That's why HIV is so lethal. You have viruses that attack different things, and the way it does that is bad enough, but then you've got HIV which attacks the immune system itself!

Just watched Gia and Mansfield Park this morning. Gia was very sad. Angelina Jolie's a really good actress. Mansfield Park was really good too. Had Angelina's ex in it (Jonny Lee Miller). I'm going to start reading the book now (more Austen Plas!). One part in the movie I found rather funny was when she was telling her sister about her suitor. Her description of him, "He's a rake". Her sister replies "Yes please!". Then, very aptly, she says "They're far more attractive in literature than in real life." It is an odd thing. So many things you can excuse in fiction. Wouldn't it be very shocking to you if someone told you they were very good at climbing out of windows and hiding behind hedges because they'd cuckolded so many men? Somehow, when you read it, it's just cute and funny and no longer so despicable. That might also have something to do with that he 'reforms' over the course of the book. That's always cute.

Trust me, you should be thankful that you get what little you do. If I were to unleash the full fury of my insane madness (yes, even my madness is insane) the world would probably be destroyed.

Marsi, the ship is the size of a bloodcell, otherwise we wouldn't be able to fit all the weaponry on it. The ships targeting computer can easily attack something the size of a virus. Oh and men don't reform. We just bury it away, ready for the next opportunity that presents itself. The Human Immuno-defficiency Virus (HIV) is particularly nasty as a virus because it actually attacks white blood cells, uses them as brood chambers and then allow the virus to spread. Most virus' don't usually attack the white blood cells directly. Its why no-one actually dies of HIV or AIDS, both cause the body's own defences to be destroyed, allowing even something as simple as a cold to be fatal.

Years of education marsi. And years of pub quizzes :D

There is a way to avoid the onset of AIDS (after contracting HIV that is). It's expensive though, that's the only problem. Because HIV is a retrovirus, it needs reverse transcriptase enzyme to convert in to DNA and actually go and take over your white blood cell. That's why even if you do get HIV it may be quite a while before you show signs--because the transcription has to take place to. Some people can survive getting HIV for years and years and live to an old age because they take reverse transcriptase inhibitor drugs. If you don't let it turn into DNA, it can't enter your cell and take it over. I'm also pretty sure HIV is the only virus that attacks the immune system. Hm, I wonder how viruses are programmed to attack certain cells and not others.

The real problem with HIV isn't that we can't make a vaccine though, it's that it mutates so quickly. By the time you've made the vaccine, it's mutated so much that the vaccine doesn't work. Think how often you have to take flu jabs (if you do even take flu jabs)--you'd have to take it far more often with HIV. It's the ultimate super-virus. It packs the punch of infecting something vital, and of mutation. Its weaknesses are in that the effects take a while to become really apparent, and that it's a retrovirus.
