Morning all

Posting only on company time.....as if!

Zuke, if you haven't been, you should definetly go to the lake district. Some beautiful scenery, and especially great if you like Rambling.

So, Pengy...... I'm all for beautiful things, scenery included. Have you specific spots in the district to recommend? A particular B&B or hotel or just the best town to venture out from?

We find relying on recommendations from those who've been there is better than trusting to blind luck, although blind luck is still more reliable than a professional travel agent....

Morning all, dragged this thread up from page 5, whats going on?

Zuke...only been to the lake district for the odd day, never spent time there. But its a beautiful area. Keswick in particular is nice, and its close to Derwent Water. A very central location too, you get a lot of Ramblers stopping there i believe.

It does tend to rain a lot there though, guess thats why its the lake district. :D

Personally if I could visit only one place in England it would be the Lake District. Beautiful scenery, fantastic mountains, great pubs (good beer) and also nice places to stay from small B&B's to great hotels.

As has been said before the weather is often very bad which does mean that you can spend more time in the pub.

Personally I would stay at or near Ambleside (on lake Windermere) or Keswick.

Good mornin' UK'ers :D

If you're going to visit the lake district Zuke, take an umbrella and wellies ;)

Thanks to all! I'll look into Keswick and Ambleside.

I've got news for you, Witchie: by Midwestern U.S. standards, your whole island is wet. Wouldn't be so green if it weren't. We always bring compact umbrellas we can tuck in a coat pocket, and I've now got a very good rain hat I bought at the BH Store in Bath. Haven't tried packing boots, though. Perhaps we should, but luggage space is limited.

Me? Sense? I am Lear's learing Fool! In some sense I make sense if only you can sense it.
