Allan Heart was known more commonly as the Witch Hunter. When he was young a witch had cursed his village and Allan had watched as his family became sick and died. He had been one of the few to survive. He grew up with his uncle after that, but the experience had changed him. He never wanted others to suffer at the hands of magic again. The church had bregrudingly helped him when he turned sixteen. They used ancient rites and tattooed him with special inks. Most direct spells that mages or witches cast on him couldn’t hurt him anymore. Over the years he’d earned his money on bounties and rewards for the death of several wizards, witches, and others. Today would be no different.
Allan stood tall at six foot one, so even when he dismounted his horse he looked impressive. Chainmail woven with charms protected him, but he wore no helmet so he could react easier to whatever his foe had planned. It also showed his rugged face and dark black hair, and tattooed black and green bars that ran down his neck and onto his chest in back where they formed more complex patterns. The tower out in these hills was supposedly home to a sorceress who had always had plans to take over not just her little surroundings, but the entire kingdom. The local villages wouldn’t say much about her, but it was clear they were afraid of her.
The lack of some kind of preemptive strike surprised him, but it made him confident too. If he could take her by surprise it would be that much easier. Allan eased the door to the tower open. It was unlocked, and the room inside was dark. Long curved blade drawn, he entered.
