Suddenly aware that there was a connection between the waitress and the "stranger" Andreas took a step backwards, his hand almost idly settling into his jacket pocket.

Most men would have felt a calm flood through them at the smooth metal of the 9mm handgun, but Andreas felt edgier at the prospect that things had come to so perilous a state! There were so many variables at stake - would the woman assume he might want to carry on Nico's grudge for him. Would she simply hate him by extension because he'd been with Nico, and get her companion to turn on him?

Would Yuri arrive and forestall any confrontation? Would Nico get up and escalate this?

Another new char.

OCC:

Thomas Mallory
6 ft 2 180lbs.
Brown hair and eyes

Your everyday average man. Look at him once and forget he was ever there. Asked to describe him 10 minutes later and most people wouldn't remember who you were talking about. This is Tommy an agent( different branch from the other two and no knowledge has been passed top either side) Currently working his way up inside Nico's organization trying to collar Nico but know a bigger fish has shown itself.

IC:

Standing outside the club waiting for Nico and his ' boss' to be finished Tommy was pacing in frustration. Man he always does this kind of crap. Why does everything Nico starts always ends up in a place like this?
Just then a scream of pain comes from the alleyway. Tommy dashes down the short alley and turns the corner to see Nico kneeling on the ground, a waitress from the club yelling at two men in a back door.
Tommy walks over to Nico and kneels down," Nico you alright? Come on man we need to get outta here. The cops is on the way." Tommy then slips his arm under Nico's shoulder and helps the man stumble away casting a quick glance at everyone gathered together in case he should run into then again.

A siren sounds in the distance....

Michelle Levain

The sudden appearance of Andreas on the scene had been bad enough, but the new arrival had made Michelle's mind race.
Still knelt on the ground, she eyed the man as he walked over to help Nico and urge him to move away.

”The cops is on the way."

And then the siren sounded out.

Fucking hell!

Michelle had no idea how to play it!
Should she just run?
Should she just hurl a load of threats at Nico?
What the hell would she do about Adam … not to mention Andreas?

But she had no time to react.

'Chelle gave a cry as she found Nico’s hand laced through her hair and pulling at her savagely.
Despite being … incapacitated … he had pulled free of the newcomer and was determined to wreak his revenge.

”You bitch!”

He ground out. His voice a dangerous hiss.

”Why the hell wouldn’t these guys want to see you get what’s coming to you?
You owe me. You owe me big time!

He reached and pinned her hands to ensure no further injury was inflicted on him or any of the other men there.
Michelle struggled wildly.

”Tommy … cuffs… rope … for fuck's sake, give me something to tie this hell cat!”

The sirens wailed nearing rapidly.
Nikki gasped out.

”Don’t be so stupid Nico!"

His look passed over her insolently.
He seemed strangely unaware of the approach of the law.

"The cops will be here any minute and if you think I’m not gonna tell them what you did, what you tried to do, then you’re crazier than I thought!”

Knowing that her options were all but gone, Nikki flashed an angry look at all the assembled men, making sure her glare encompassed Adam.

”Show’s over. Now get the hell out of here and take this bastard with you ..."

She threw a disgusted glance back up at Nico as he towered over her, her hands still held in his.

"Unless you all want to end up in jail tonight!”

She spat at them with more bravado than courage.

Michelle's eyes blazed with fury, but inside her heart raced in fear as she silently willed the police officers to arrive before anything worse happened.

Fuck. Hurry up!
Why did cops never arrive on time?”

Andreas quailed almost visibly - how dare Nico endanger him like this?!

Now there were too many witnesses to turn this into a casual shooting - too many people had seen him here with Nico tonight for him to afford to leave the body lying around.

Michelle Levain

Mercifully, Nico let go of Michelle as voices were heard in the hallway.
She began to stagger quickly to her feet, rubbing her hands as two men came through the exit.

God! It was a bloody party!
She was going to get it in the neck not only from Adam!
She was doing a strange version of "low profile" that was for sure!

She noticed Nico had stepped back into the shadows.
She didn't turn her head to see where the other guy had gotten to and made a mental note to find out who this "friend" was ... if she could salvage anything from this assignment that was.

"This guy was beating up on her officer .... they came ... there... there she is ..."

She took a few steps towards her rescuer, the guy who had bought her drinks at the table.
So ... he must have had a twinge of conscience.
She winced, knowing her body was aching and that livid bruises must be showing on her face.

Michelle threw a look at Adam.
Much as they both wanted Nico taught a lesson, if he was taken in by the police it would be worse then blowing their cover there.

"So Sir ... what exactly happened here?|"

Michelle fought an urge to laugh.
Surely the Officer was accusing Adam!
But as a bystander, he was ... implicated ... she supposed.
She glanced round and saw Nico moving just beyond them, now moved well into the shadows.
Of Andreas there seemed no sign.

"The man's gone now, Officer.
It was a ... misunderstanding ...."

She saw the man from the bar looking at her worriedly and allowed him to help her back to the doorway.

"Hazard of the job ..."

She joked lamely.

"I'll need a description .... from all of you ... "

He glanced over at Adam as he watched the man give an exaggerated sigh, as if exasperated by the inconvenience.
He watched the young man nod and turn eager to complete proceedings, suddenly brave now the law were present.
She met his eye and dropped her eyes in a gesture that was supposed to suggest ... guilt ...

"I need to ask the young lady some questions.
If you gentlemen would wait with my colleagues in the bar ..."

Michelle kept her eyes to the ground, refusing to meet the eyes of either "witness" concentrating on running a hand through her hair and wincing at the bump she felt there.

"I assume you know the gentleman who did this, Miss?"

Michelle glanced up and nodded before looking away again.

"A customer ... "

Again she nodded.

"Your customer ...?"

Michelle raised incredulous eyes.
He thought she was a hooker!?!?

"He drinks here. He made assumptions. He's the jealous type."

She shivered suddenly cold as she stood in the dark alleyway, or perhaps it was relief that she had escaped the danger she had put herself in.

"He's nasty when he's angry. I won't be seeing him again."

The Officer nodded, seemingly believing her story.

"Look .... I'm glad you came when you did ... but ... I don't want any trouble ... it's over with ... I don't want to take it any further."

The man beside her shrugged, seeming unsurprised and uncaring.
Michelle met his eyes and speculated that the police officer must assume she'd deserved the beating.

"If you could ... "

She gestured to the bar.

"Of course, Miss ..."

The voice was heavy with irony.
He turned and left without further comment.

Michelle leaned against the door post and closed her eyes, exhaling deeply.

FUCK! What the hell was she playing at lately?

She stayed immobile, eyes closed, steadying her breathing.
Her head throbbed, her limbs ached.
This had NOT been a good day, but hopefully Adam would not even need to explain who they were and why they were there.
THAT had been salvaged at least.

But what to do now .... ?
Could she risk staying here?
Perhaps she could work Nico's colleague ... the guy who had suddenly appeared on the scene that evening?

OOC:

Please excuse any manipulation of characters on my part.
I wanted to get us away from all stood staring and waiting in the alley.

The young man who bought Michelle drinks obviously wasted no time directing the Officer to where he last saw Michelle, even though he did not infact summon the law.

I moved Adam away so that he could clear things with the law if necessary. Obviously he's hoping Michelle's cover won't be blown. Being guilty of "spectating", his persona would have to appear to be co-operative and of course would be hoping that Michelle wouldn't say anything incriminating about his part in the attack.

I've written Nico as lurking, way back in the shadows with Tommy.
Tommy I assumed would drag him out of sight and struggle to keep him quiet.

I've not commented on where Andreas disappeared to.
Enough that Michelle is no longer aware of him in the alley.
Knowing who he is, she assumes he's saved his skin, after all he cannot afford to be anywhere near the police!

Yuri is still watching and awaiting his boss's orders.

Cue is set up for Steiner's next post.
Feel free to react, but please "keep your positions" until then.

Apologies for playing "director".
I just have an idea to move the story on and give every character more potential to develop.
Hoping you're all still along with this.

Adam felt completely caught, almost more so than Michelle, who's arms were now held by Nico. Every part of him wanted to storm across the alley and tear the little fucker's limbs out, then beat him to death with them. Unfortunately, he had a job to do, so he might have to put that off. But one thing he vowed now: Nico would bleed for doing this to her.

He snapped his head up towards the end of the alley suddenly when he heard sirens, and somehow the rock and hard place got smaller. Fuck. Things were going from bad to worse quickly, and one glance at Andreas told him the other man was thinking much the same thing, although for clearly different reasons.

The cops soon arrived, and the whole thing was nearly over as quickly as it seemed to have started. He glanced at Michelle a final time as he was led back inside the bar by the other officer, who wanted a statement. Once out of the view of everyone outside, he grabbed the street cop by the shirt and pulled him into a storage room off the kichen. The cop pulled his gun as Adam shut the door behind them, and really he couldn't blame the guy. He probably would've pulled his gun, too. Adam held up his hands, and began to speak in a quick, hushed whisper.

"Listen, I'm a cop. Michelle, the girl out there, and I are under cover, trying to bust a bunch of guys that disappeared when they heard you approaching. Here, take my ID."

He turned around so the cop could reach for his wallet, which he did with one hand still training the gun on Adam. Upon opening the wallet and examining his ID, the cop was satisfied, and holstered his gun, giving the wallet back to Adam.

"You guys could really fuck things up for us if you don't back off, and soon. Do a little around here to make it look like you made sure things were okay, then get the hell out of here, okay? If you blow our cover, either one of us could end up dead. After all this shit, it's not a risk I want to take. Got it?"

Lurking in the shadows

Tommy was holding Nico still as two cops came out the back of the bar. There she is Officer. It was a patron from the bar, directing them where to go. Tommy slowly moved toward the entrance of the alley with Nico in tow. Willing the cops to not look this way. Breathing out a sigh of relief as soon as the police started herding everyone into the bar.

Pulling Nico by the arm Tommy dragged him out of the mouth of the alley. " Nico you really screwed things up big time tonight. Do you realise what almost happened back there?"

Nico's face was still red from the 'excitement' in the alley. " Yeah the little bitch allmost got what she deserved."

"Yeah but Andreas was there as well. Think he'd be happy to talk to the nice policemen? I sure don't."

Nico paled. All color draining from his face in less time than it takes to cook a two minute egg. " Oh man oh man oh man."

" Come on Nico pull yourself together. Look it's been a long day and we are both tired. You head home and I'll see how things turn out here. Now go on and go home get some sleep." Walking out to the curb Tommy let out a piercing whistle and hailed a cab. Placing Nico in the back and giving the cabbie a few bills and the address Tommy saw them on their way. Now to see about the mess inside. he thought as he walked around to the front of the bar and through the front door....

It's a little known fact that after the first couple of minutes the police seldom return to the scene of the crime - at least until forensics and photographers arrive, often up to a good hour or so later.

Within five minutes the police were taking statements inside the bar, and working their way down to the far end of the alleyway. Even the girl herself, Michelle wasn't it, had moved herself closer to the club doorway, both arms wrapped around herself as if it were a cold night.

Torch beams passed over the ground at the far end of the alley, as the cops considered a dumpster. At the near end a black transit van parked up and killed its lights. In the noise of the city only an observant person would notice that it did not kill its engine at the same time.

The Cops were getting bored with their dumpster and Andreas decided they would soon return to question the pretty woman - preferably somewhere they could sit down. He quickly stepped around the steam pipe that had sheilded him from view and started walking down towards the black transit, the woman freezing at the sound of his footsteps as they tap-tapped away...

Michelle Levain

Michelle's head swung around at the sound of the retreating footsteps. She froze. Nico?? But no ... the tread was too light ... graceful ... Andreas??

She eased back into the shadow of the doorway and glanced around, seeing nothing but shadows and no movement beyond them.

She shivered and made her way back into the corridor of the club.
Pulling the door closed behind her, the lock not quite clicking into place, Michelle made her way to the ladies determined to clean herself up. She would not be pressing charges, so there was no concern about not preserving evidence was there?

She moved under the florescent lighting, the garish white beam was unflattering at the best of times, but now ...

Michelle winced as she raised damped tissue to her face.
Gingerly she dabbed at the cut at the side of her head and then got some clean tissue to soothe the bruises that were standing out lividly from her now pale pallor.

"What a fucking mess..."

She murmured as she seated herself an a vivid pink chair that was lurid in colour, (like the tacky decor (but offered some iota of comfort. Her stockings were torn. Her legs grazed. She sighed and pulled at the material and pulled the stockings free and threw them unceremoniously in the rubbish basket. Again she dabbed at the broken and discoloured skin.

She was a mess ... the operation was a mess ... everything was ...

She froze, sure she heard a sound.
No ... nothing ...
She dampened her hands and ran her fingers through her hair.
She was dischevelled and not much improved by the impromptu grooming.

She looked down at her now bare legs and gave a heavy sigh.
Now she had to face them ... face them all ... the cops ... and Adam ...

She heard the door opening and kept her head down.
Whoever it was they either didn't know she was there or had come to see if she was OK. Either way, she had to play victim...

She sat up and ran her hands through her hair again, the ready smile freezing as she saw the other person's reflection in the mirror.

"Wha.... ?"

Sooo... Michelle ... alone ... in the "Ladies" ... turns around and sees ....

NB - If this isn't fun for anyone anymore, then let's drop it.

Here for a drink...

Tommy walked in the front door of the bar and froze. He knew that the police would be here but he had to act just like anyone else that had come into a room full of cops.

"Excuse me sir," one uniformed cop turned toward Tommy, " do you know what happened here?"
" No, I just got here myself and wanted a drink. Something going on? Mebbe I should just leave?" Tommy asked with a slight tremor in his voice.
" No you can stay." the cop said with a slight grin on his face. "We are almost finished here. Enjoy your drink." With that last statement the cop turned and started talking to another officer.

Tommy shrugged his shoulders and looked over the patrons.Where is she? The one that Nico had on the ground. Out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of her disappearing into the Ladies room. He waited a few moments and casually walked toward the restrooms. Standing outside for just a minute and glancing around to make sure no police were looking in this direction Tommy pushed open the door and slipped inside, Holding the door so it wouldn't bang on the frame as it closed.

Tommy paused as he heard water running in one of the sinks. Have to let her clean herself up a bit first he thought. After the sink was shut off and a barely audible sigh was heard he walked around the corner of the wall.

There she was, standing and facing the mirror. Her eyes grew large showing a lot of white as she caught sight of him in the mirror.
"Wait! Please don't scream. I came here to apologise to you for what happened. If I had been here this wouldn't have happened. Nico has been getting more and more outta control. He may not have a long time to regret some of his descisions though. If you know what I mean? By the way my name's Tommy. What's yours?"

Michelle Levain

"Wait! Please don't scream."

Until he spoke those words, Michelle hadn't realised that she had beeb about to do so. The evening's events had more than freaked her and now ...

Her eyes swept over the stranger who stood before her.
Her mind raced trying desperately to find a name, an identity, but failed.
This was one man she did not know.
Michelle was at a disadvantage and she didn't like that at all!

"I came here to apologise to you for what happened.
If I had been here this wouldn't have happened.
Nico has been getting more and more outta control."

Michelle turned around slowly, her back to the basins and the mirror ans watched this man carefully. He knew Nico? But what did he know? He knew what had happened? But she hadn't seen him out there?

"He may not have a long time to regret some of his descisions though. If you know what I mean?
By the way my name's Tommy. What's yours?"

Michelle considered the hand that was extended towards her.
She felt suddenly self conscious' barelegged, grazed and bruised limbs and a face where a bruise was beginning to stand out lividly. Reluctantly she reached out and put her hand into his, despite her usual confidence, the appearence of this tall, self-confident man did nothing to soothe her nerves.

"I'm Michelle ... "

She told him, drawing back quickly.

"Nico and I ... well ... seems I annoyed him..."

She shrugged, dismissing the episode as less than a "lover's tiff".

Turning away from him, she pretended to puruse her reflection in the mirror, but her eyes darted back to him in nervous observation as his bulk continued to stand blocking of her exit.

She didn't know who he was, but as ever, Michelle knew that her only option was to play the distraught waitress ... easy enough ... as that was just how she felt at the moment: distraught, bruised and battered.
She had been scared more than she cared to admit.
But she was going to be in so much trouble about this when Adam and her superiors got to her!

Tommy and Michelle

Tommy continued to watch her as she turned back towards the basins, her eyes darting to watch him in the mirror when she thought he wasn't looking. She appeared more shaken than he at first realised.Moving slowly he stepped up behind her.
Reaching past her he pulled some paper towels from the dispenser off to her left. He leaned past her and ran some water on them, twisting them to remove most of the moisture. He slowly raised his hand and placed them against the back of her neck.
She sighed softly and her shoulders visibly relaxed.

"Thought that might help." Tommy said with a wry grin on his face. " You've been through a lot tonight. Would you like me to take you home? I might be able to get us away from the police with a minium of fuss. It's up to you though."

Gently Tommy placed a hand on Michelle's shoulder and in a voice barely audible said," I won't let Nico hurt you ever again."

Michelle Levain

Even though she'd seen him pulling at the paper towels, Michelle was surprised when he pressed their cool dampness against her skin. Her eyes flew to meet his in the mirror. Nico had grabbed hold of her neck. He must have bruised her. It was an injury she hadn't even been aware of.

"Thought that might help."

She saw his grin and forced a smile herself.
At least he seemed gentle ... concerned even ...

" You've been through a lot tonight. Would you like me to take you home? I might be able to get us away from the police with a minium of fuss. It's up to you though."

She tore her eyes from his, the strange sensation of tears pricking at her eyes. How unprofessional! She cursed her stupidity ... earlier that night ... and now ...

The hand on her shoulder was gentle, half turning her towards him.

"I won't let Nico hurt you ever again."

She turned and faced him then. Her eyes searching.

"Who are you?"

The question sprung unbidden from her lips.

"I mean ... I ... I've never seen you with Nico ... I .."

She tried to shrug off the events of the night.

"I'll be Ok ... "

Her mind went back to the bar. She couldn't continue there that evening ... besides her organisation might want to pull the plug on her involvement on the case ... after tonight ...
She sighed heavily and saw that he was still watching her carefully.

"I brought this on myself, I guess ... "

The bravado had gone from her voice.

"Not sure just how stupid I can be this evening ... "

She shook her head and hoped he'd go.
She could bare being beaten up and almost ...
She shuddered and blanked out the thought of what Nico had tried to do to her.
But continued sympathy was likely make the tough facade crack ... and she couldn't let that happen.
She'd fucked up enough tonight.

Looking at Michelle, Tommy wanted more than anything to comfort this woman. She was shuddering and seemed on the verge of tears. He gently placed his arms around her and held her. " Shhhh it's ok. Nothing is going to hurt you here. Go on and let it all out." Tommy's voice was low and soothing. He turned her head slightly and placed it upon his chest so she could hear his heart beating.

" Any questions you have I'll answer when you are feeling a little more in control of yourself. Now come on and let me get you home. No more work for you tonight." The last was said in a voiced that wouldn't take no for an answer.

Michelle Levain

Michelle tensed herself as he put his arms around her, not because the sensation was unpleasant, nor because she feared him, rather she knew that the hold on her own control was becoming more and more ...

" Shhhh it's ok. Nothing is going to hurt you here.
Go on and let it all out."

The warm sensation of being held, his solid bulk against her cheek was too much for Michelle. Tears brimmed over and she found herself burying her head in his chest to hide the soft sobs that broke forth. Confused by her uncharacteristic show of emotions, she could not help but feel strangely comforted by this stranger's presence and sympathy.

" Any questions you have I'll answer when you are feeling a little more in control of yourself.
Now come on and let me get you home."

She raised her head and looked at him helplessly.
Her gaze swept to the door.

Adam ... the cops ... the customers she had flirted with ... Mr Aldinetti .... they were all in there!
And then Nico ... where had he gone? ... and Andreas?... she had heard him in the alleyway ...

She shuddered, overwhelmed suddenly by everything that had happened.

"No more work for you tonight."

The softly spoken voice was firm, the words a simple statement.
Michelle met his eyes and nodded in defeat.
Afterall, there would be time enough to face the music tomorrow.
Staying here could make matters worse.
At least in the flat she had been renting as part of her cover, she'd be out of the way.
The place wasn't under surveillance, nor was it bugged, but it had been safe ... so far ... and she had come to think of it as "home".

Wordlessly, she allowed him to guide her out of the washroom and into the corridor.
Voices flooded out from the main bar, laughter, banter.
Nothing seemed amiss in there and yet she could only guess at what was going on.
As if sensing her tension, he moved closer.
Michelle was surprised to find that she was grateful for the chance to escape and told herself it was just the convenience of being offered a lift that appealed to her.

She gave him a hesitant smile and walked with him out of the club...

Going home

Tommy led Michelle through the main room of the bar. He only stopped to talk with the Officer in charge for a few minutes pointing once in Michelle's direction. The officer nodded and Tommy walked back. " There isn't much they can do here. You decided not to press charges and no one can give a good description of your attacker. They are letting me take you home. Come on."

With that Tommy wrapped one arm around her shoulders and led her through the front door. Walking slowly and keeping stride with Michelle he led her to his car. Opening her door, he let her get settled then gently closed pushed it closed. He went over to his door and got inside.
"Seat belt." Tommy said with a small smile. He reached to the middle console and flipped three small switches located there. Then placed the key in the ignition and started the car." Umm...Welll.... I need directions." Tommy said with a small blush.

After receiving her address Tommy drove through town and to her flat. " Well here we are." Tommy said once they arrived. "Come on and I'll walk you to your door."

Tommy carefully took the keys she had been digging out of her purse from her shaking fingers. He walked around to her side and helped her to her feet. " Which floor are you on?" Tommy placed his arm around her once more as he led her inside.

He started towards the elevator before he noticed the sign. "Heh." he said pointing it out, "same as at my place. Except mine's been out of service since prohabition I think." Answered with a small grin, Tommy led her up the steps to her flat.
