Unexpected Love

Nick got off the elevator and said goodbye to all of the people from the meeting. For a moment he thought about stopping by Kia's place, but then he thought that would be out of line. He walked along the street as he headed home, and stopped to get some takeout. While he waited for his food, he texted Kia, "finally finished. Hope you had a great evening. Talk to you soon. Goodnight."

Kia heard her phone go off a text from Nick and texted him back " Im having a bit of a situation now... ummm ill ttyl :/" she wrote. She currently atoos between her ex the door and her brother who had just resigned from service. " Kevin dont..." She said trying to calm him.

She heard James knock again " Kia please... open the door.. I jus- Lets talk". Kia grew furious tears rushing to her eyes. He wanted to talk? After he went Mia for a week! After he screwed one of her close friends at their wedding. After he broke her heart into a million pieces and embarrassed her like that.

Nick saw her text saying that she was having a situation and he texted her back..."on my way over. Do I need to call911?" He didn't wait for a response. He hailed a cab and started toward Kia's place. He wasn't sure why, but he cared for her and he needed to make sure she was okay.

Kia hadnt gotten a chance to respond when james shocked her by pounding on the door. " Open the door now Kia! Stop being fucking difficult!". Now she was afraid. He had never been like this and he sounded drunk. He began pushing at the door harder and harder trying to break it in and she moved back. Her brother made his way toward the door and slung it open. " She said leave!" He said standing in the doorway.

Jamea grew furious charging him and the two flew into her living room in ball of punches and rolling. " Guys stop!" Kia yelled but of course they weren't listening. She tried breaking the two up but got punched by a flying fist falling backward with a bloody nose.

Nick tossed a $20 to the cabbie as they pulled up in front of Kia's place. He hopped out and went toward the door. She had not responded to his text so he dialed 911 on his phone, but he did not hit send. He wanted to be ready just in case.

As Nick approached her door, he saw that it was open. As he got closer he saw two men wrestling on the floor in her living room. When he walked into her apartment, Nick saw Kia laying on the floor with a bloody nose. He went over to check on her. "Are you okay? Who are they?"

Kia was shocked seeing Nick arrive and slowly got up nodding. " James and My brother... I tried breaking them up but not much I can do" she said shrugging. She held her nose wincing and said "Im fine Nick" as he helped her up. She was a bit dizzy but she just wanted the two to stop fighting before they killed each other.

She headed towards the bathroom to wash her face and grab a rag. Her nose was definitely swollen but she was sure it wasnt broken.

After helping Kia up, Nick went over to the two guys still wrestling with each other. He pulled them apart and stood between them. "I don't know who is who, but whichever one is James needs to go before the police arrive." Nick hadn't hit send yet, but was prepped to do so if Kia's ex did not decide to call it a night.

Kevin left and went to check on his sister but not before saying " You better get out of here and don't come back or ill kill you" James scoff and then looked at Nick " And the fuck are you?" He said pissed still. " Im not leaving I used to stay here too ! You gonna do something pretty boy?"

Nick had no doubt that he could take him down, but he wasn't going to risk being arrested, spending time in jail, and losing his job over this guy. Nick hit send on his phone, and when the 911 operator answered he told him that there was a break-in and an assault and gave Kia's address.

When he hung up the phone, Nick looked at James and said, "I am the guy who saved your Ed's life when you fucked a bridesmaid right before your wedding. Now, if you don't mind stepping outside for the police so they can put the shiny silver bracelets on you."

James eyes widened as he saw flashing lights in the distance " Fuck you!" He slurred" Id better not get time or you three are gonna pay" he said threatening and taking off before the cops came. Kias brother came out along with her and Kia came over to him. " You ok?"she asked nick looking at him. She heard the cops approaching and looked out the window seeing them cuff James.

They knocked on the door shortly after.

Nick answered the door and identified himself to the police officers as the one who had called. He spoke with the officers for several minutes before pointing to Kia and her brother. Before the police went to talk to Kia and Kevin, Nick asked the officers if he could have a private word with James.

The officers agreed. The only condition that the set was that he could not touch James. Nick told them he was fine with that. He just wanted to set some ground rules for when he was released. The cops laughed and said no problem. One of them led Nick out to the car where James sat. They opened the door for him. Nick bent in, "if you ever come near Kia again you will not have to worry about the police. I will fuck you up. Don't think I am making an idle threat." Nick smiled at James and then thanked the police officers as they closed the car door.

Kia and her brother talked with police and they suggested that she getna restraining order. She also told them that James was not a resident he just stayed there on and off while they planned the wedding. They wrapped her brothers swollen fist and gave her asprin and ice for her nose and headache. Her brother apologized over and over for getting her hurt but it was james that hit her.

She hugged Nick when he came back in and gave him a soft kiss glad he had came when he did or things mightve been much worse.

Her brother introduced himself as well and apologized sheepishly sorry he had to meet him like that " Im not normally like that but I never liked that asshole"

Nick shook hands with Kevin and said he was glad to meet him. "I am not sure why you didn't like him. He seemed like a really nice guy to me," Nick joked with Kevin. Then he turned to Kia. He joked with her too. "I guess I must be your guardian angel, huh, Kia?"

Kia laughed and said " It seems like it to me." She giggled and poured them all some water.She was glad her brother was there as well otherwise James mightve attacked her. " Im gonna file the restraining order. I've never seen James that violent he mustve taken something. "

"File the protection from abuse restraining order first thing tomorrow morning. Don't take any chances. It won't protect you if he decides to violate it, so, you should have someone stay with you for a while...at least until you go on your trip." Nick did not say anything about going with her,since he wasn't sure what, if anything, Kia had told her brother. "Maybe Kevin can stay here for a while."

Kia looked over at her brother and instantly knew he could. His two year old and pregnant wife were at home and he only was visiting for the day. Ever since he got be him amd Jess have been busy creating their family and her best friend couldnt because shed just given birth. Kevin shook his head " Sorry little sis I can't you know Id want to but I can't leave Jess with Tyler too long"

Kia nodded understanding " I umm ill file that first thing Nick and maybe if I change the locks ill be ok?"she said giving a small smile. She saw her brother give a knowing look over nicks shoulder and then he boldly suggested " Hey why dont you stay here? You both live in the same town and you guys seem cool plus your bigger and stronger than that jackass so I have no doubt you can protect my baby sis and for some reason...I trust you with her. Mom told me you didn't leave her after you brought her in" he said" I know you wont hurt her".

"I don't want anything to happen to her. I could do it, but I don't want anyone thinking there is anything inappropriate going on. I will stay on the sofa, but I still think you should change the locks. I am sure he still has a key." Nick smiled at Kevin. "I stayed at the hospital because I wanted to make sure she was okay. Mi guess I have to stay here for the same reason."

Kia smiled and raised her eyebrow at her brother and smiled at Nick. I dont mind you staying Nick you can come over tomorrow after my bro leaves. Im gonna go file those papers as well. Kevin shook his head and walked off to the living room laughing"Sureee" He joked and nudged NIck"Thanks for Keeping her safe dude maybe next time Im here we can grab a beer or something so I can thank you." He went over hugging Kia and said " See you next time baby sis... be careful and lock your window. Im gonna stay in the living room"

Nick decided that it would be best if he left now. "No problem. I will take you up on that beer. You keep her safe tonight. Of course, her ex is going to be spending the night in jail, so, there shouldn't be too much to worry about."

Nick kissed Kia on the cheek and headed toward the door. "You get that restraining order before you do anything else tomorrow. Call me after you get it. I will be by after work tomorrow. I will stop home and pack a bag and then I will be over. Good night Kia. Take care Kevin."

Kia nodded wishing him good night and then heading to get ready for her for bed herself. James would be in holding for the night so she should be safe. She brushes her hair and wished her brother goodnight before getting in bed.

She would get the restrainng order first thing she didn't want James coming over and hurting her.

Nick headed home. He was concerned that Kia would not get the restraining order. Nick was worried that she would think it was just a one-time thing from her ex, and that she didn't need to worry any about him doing something else.

When Nick got home and was ready for bed he decided to send Kia a text. "Restraining order first thing in the morning. I know people and I will find out if you didn't get it. Call me after you have it. Goodnight Kia. Sleep well."

Kia saw the text and pouted. He didn't trust she would. She didn't want to but she knew her brother would probably go to make sure she would. She wrote " I will I promise Nick" she wrote and slipped in bed. " Ill see you tomorrow and call you after I do ok?"

She relaxed in bed barely sleeping. She thought of how violent he was. He mustve found out about his things. As far as she was concerned those items went to a much better cause and he had tons more where that came from so she hadnt seen them as a big deal. She had mailed his jewelry to his mother because some of it were heirlooms but the rest was out of her place.

Nick laid in bed thinking about Kia. He was surprised at how much he was worried about her....about how much he cared about her. He had strong feelings for her after a very short period of time. He finally fell asleep....with Kia on his mind.

He woke up early the next morning....even before his alarm went off. He was going to text Kia about the restraining order, but decided that he wouldn't. He did not want Kia to think he was treating her like a child. He decided he would let her contact him.

Nick got ready for work and headed to the office. He had a bunch of paperwork to do from the deals that had been consummated the night before. He got into the office and got right to work. He had the paperwork finished quickly. He checked his phone to see if he had missed any calls.

Kia woke up early the next morning getting ready then heading to the station to file the restraining order.

She was nervous when they brought James into the room to sign and agree to the terms and Kevin held her hand through the process. Her nose was bruised and they asked if she'd like to file assault charges as well but she declined.

She called Nick shortly after they left and Kevin drove her home and changed her locks for her before heading out.

" I'm home Nick and safe. Kev took me to the station and I signed. He can't be within 30 feet of me . I got home a while ago and I'm cooking . Can't really go anywhere with this bruised nose. Call me when you can ..bye" she said to his voicemail.

Nick made a couple of phone calls. He was trying to wrap up a lot of business before the trip to Fiji. When he finished with the phone calls, he checked his voicemail and saw the call from Kia. He called her back. "Hey Kia. I am leaving work early. I am going to grab some things at home and then I will be over."
