yes, they do.
They can use renewable energy sources like solar, wind and hydroelectric.
Alternatively they can use the older archaic fossil-fuel systems like oil, natural gas and coal.

The four Georgia Power nuclear plants use closed-loop (i.e. non-irradiated) water from nearby rivers. River water is pumped in, circulates around the nuclear pile in the cooling tower (dissipating excess heat into the atmosphere), and the untouched river water is then discharged back into the river.
 
79 is hot enough in high rises with sealed windows and heat accumulating in the higher levels. Building apartments without adequate passive ventilation is stupid and inhumane, but that is common in modern architecture.

That's true. We live in a house, w/ ceiling fans as well as aircon. We just open all the windows, and go kick back on the deck in the shade.
