Thing about missionary work, though -- it only wins converts in countries that do not already have a prophetic religion. That is why Christianity spread throughout the Roman Empire, but stopped short at the Persian border -- the Persians were already Zoroastrians.

Zoroastrianism didn’t prevent the Muslims from conquering Persia. The ancient Persian civilization is still dominated today by its Islamic conquerors. Hopefully one day soon the indigenous Persians will overthrow their colonizers.

Exactly -- conquerors, not missionaries.

The Muslims, in countries they ruled, always had a policy of levying a head-tax on infidels from which Muslims were exempt. That probably made more converts than an Inquisition would have.
