My sons both started soccer at five. The oldest alway seemed to understand where to be, his coach nicknamed him killer. I explained to my son
this wasn't exactly the best of names and tried to explain his job wasn't to take out the best player but to make sure he wasn't enjoying his day on the field, he came to understand what marking meant and was quite good at it!!!!
