UN receives reports alleging torture of detainees in Venezuela continues17 h

Reports alleging that detainees have continued to be tortured in Venezuela following the seizure of President NicolĆ”s Maduro by US forces in January are concerning, the United Nations' High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker TĆ¼rk, says.

Maduro has been replaced in power by one of his loyal allies, former Vice-President Delcy RodrĆ­guez, under whose leadership an amnesty bill has been passed into law.

TĆ¼rk welcomed the amnesty law but warned that "structural and systemic human rights concerns have persisted" in Venezuela despite Maduro's ousting.

Venezuela's foreign minister rejected TĆ¼rk's comments as "biased" and the allegations as "unfounded".
 
I want Venezuela to become a popular tourist destination that is considered "safe" one day.

The money is supposedly in US Treasury accounts, so it would be very easy for the Treasury Department to report on the balance, inflows and outflows. But transparency obviously isnā€™t a priority.

There are also supposed to be quarterly audits:
In mid-April, the State Department witness told Congress that accounting firm KPMG would conduct quarterly audits of how Venezuelan oil revenues are being spent, to include a retrospective audit ā€œfrom the beginning,ā€ but said he did not know when the reports would be available.
