Matthew Chase didnt remember if there was ever a moment when he knew he would never get married, have kids, the "normal life" people supposedly pursued. He only thought about the next deal, how it could get done, and how it could make him rich, and how it could lead him to the next deal, and how THAT deal could make him richer. Such a singular focus did make him rich and successful, but it also pushed the wife/kids/dog/house thing further out of view until it pretty much fell of the edge of what was possible.
Did it bother him? Not really. That's the fact that convinced him that he was living the life he had chosen. He enjoyed his life. The hours were long, the travel cold be a pain in the ass, and the clients could be more so, but when the day was done, Matt felt as though he was where he should be. Not that he was lonely. Far from it. The lack of monogamy in his life was yet but another benefit he enjoyed. Most of the women in his life passed through like spring breezes, getting what they wanted from him while he took what he wanted from them. A strict barter business transaction.
One woman did manage to be the exception to that rule. Barbara Palmer had been a friend of Matt's for nearly 30 years. She at one time or another had made similar life choices, marrying once, but ending that when it became clear that business came first. Matt and Barbara kept each other company when the situation called for it. No strings attached, of course. The pleasures of the flesh even helped to further their business dealings, with potential clients sometimes invited into the procedings. Some of Matt's most vivid memories were of Barbara, her legs spread, accepting his thrusts while simultaneously sucking a client's cock. Shortly after, the client would sign on the proverbial dotted line, and Matt and Barbara would have a story to tell.
Most of this was in the past, however, and Matt wasn't getting any younger. At 51, Matt wasnt foolish enough to think his peak sexual prowess was ahead of him. As Barbara sat across from him at lunch, his eyes wondered toward a young couple. Mid 20s, coworkers, Matt could tell. And sexually involved with each other. Matt could tell that, too. Matt wondered. Were these two young people headed down the same road that he and Barbara had selected? If so, did they know the price they would pay? AND, were they going about it in a way to maximize the benefits?
Matt's eyes darted to the young couple, and he smiled before retuning his attention to Barbara.
"Do those two there remind you of us? I wonder if we went over to them and told them about what we've been up to for the last 30 years, if they would ask for advice, or laugh and tell us to get lost."
