Naoko has the panda entertaining the villagers in no time and has setup house near the temple. She also soon has monkeyes that play in the trees making trouble some but fun pets. She thinks within a month she will have a good warhorse for use...though your tribe has few.
Attack!!!!
"This is what we were training for," he said to the men. "For the future protection of your lives and your families lives, let those that strike us who wish to remain peaceful be delt with swiftly and thoroughly. None shall escape! Death to all those that wish war apon us!"
Your 100 best warriors and 100 militia rally around the wall with you allies. Your peasants and monks some armed with swords and staffs others with axes and pitchforks rally around the temple. A Samurai walking along with you comments that they will do little to stop the pirates if they break through.
Your allies The Noble Kim and Ivan the Red take their positons. The Vikings take a strong position on the right since they number 400 strong. A line of the 100 archers take positions along the wall. The 5 large junks come into view. Many can see the armed pirates on board covering the decks.
They anchor a short distance offshore and begin to lower boats to land on the beach. Only a few elite archers are able to even come close to hitting these targets so they are selective and wound and harrass. The pirates seem surprised that you are mounting a defense and are wary but their leader and asian warrior named Blood Spear inspires his warriors and stands up on on his long boat that is among the first to land on the beach. Still out of range they begin to land what has the makings of a massive force.
The Charge......!!!
The pirates eager for blood and greedy for booty the pirates form up a large square, and charge up the hill a daughting 500+ strong. Soon though arrows rain down apon them like rain. The conscripts that the pirates had taken on in rescent weeks are poorly armed and armored. Some only armored with a spear and wearing a loin cloth. These are the first to perish and though the pirates all wear leather armor many make the crest of the hill wounded. Sporadic arrows come from the pirate square as Blood Spear and a masked Shamman reform the ranks.
The pirate leader is impressively armed with full chainmail armor, steel helmet, leather boots, round shield, and of coarse a long spear. The archers take their toll on the enemy as they push forward to the wall. The archers fire there last shots before pulling back to the flanks. Those not fast enough are cut down by eager pirates that run ahead of the pack.
Your forces on the left and the Vikings on the right push to fill the gap. The Noble Kim rides with you with a few body guards. The pirates fight furiously as they slam into your solid ranks. The pirates are lightly armed though and no amount of primal rage and greed can defeat the combination of rightous rage, discipline, and superior tactics.
Your ranks push back the invaders hacking them down as you advance. Blood is on your shields and glory looks certian. Blood Spear strikes out trying to inspire his warriors to keep fighting. He kills a Viking and two of your warriors as he drives towards the center. Some pull back from fear alone.
In his rage though the pirate leader pushes past many heading towards you at the center. Before you can meet him in battle though your standard bearer carrying your dragon banner in into battle runs him through with it! The banner is bloodied and the spearhead sticks out of his heart. One of your warriors named Endo comes up and with his well made Katana beheads the pirate and holds it up in the air. This is all it takes drive you warriors forward.
Your warriors vengeful from the past raids and the Vikings simple want blood. The pirates put up a fighting retreat down the hill though it does little good. Though some try to surrender they are cut down by troops wild with rage. You find yourself and your troops blood and tired at the base of the hill.
Your losses include 38 dead among your forces, 10 among the vikings, and 3 archers from Kim's forces. The pirates are massacured though and 500 bodies are strown about the hill and beach. Some Vikings and other troops are already stripping the bodies. Both Ivan and Kim ride to meet with you on the beach.
Ivan looks to you, "let us take these long boats and storm their ships! They have few sailors left and we have the men to do it...I want these ships!!!"
Kim nods to you, "it would be prudent to take them and deprive anyone of rebuilding their fleet. I too would wish to sail home with one if at all possible."
Your options are clear..........
The Vikings....
Diplomacy
Thor is alone but for his horse, but soon finds many friends. Many young warriors attempt to ride the beasts in the pasture. With limited success and soon there is a long line at the village healer. The children though enjoy feeding the horses apples. The children think of them as large playful dogs. One of the larger one proves useful in the fields as well. Thor promises a herd in a few months time. He will fight in the attack but cannot promise many horses though.
Training
The longbow is a great bonus and soon many bring home deer and boars from the hunt. Wolves that harrass your live stock are killed. The boys like the bow as it gives them a new option in battle. They can now bring down enemies at a distance before they must use the sword or ax.
Personal Project
Olaf reports that the two new apprentices seem to be working out. He is able to increase his rate of production since he has others to handle the more menial work around the shop. Though he does take time out of each day to teach as well.
Harvest
Your stock of food grows in your granary with every passing day. This is good since many of your Viking warriors eat double rations. The seeds are planted and more trees next season are promised.
Egyptians
Your trusted young servant who you grew up with, Auset giggles at your words. "If you were born a man my mother would have not bathed us together. You have a woman's life Neferti, but that does not mean you cannot make anything of it. " She smiles and does as you wish and returns after your bath with your silk robe.
Your pet monkey is now a regular companion and climbs about the palace and the grounds freely. She hands fro her tail at the breakfast table and eats of your plate.
Harvest
With the switch of the use of grain to be used for bread instead of bricks for the temple means there is more bread for your peasants and to be sold.
The forest is become more difficult place as of late to pick berries because of many apes scaring the women. They have not attacked anyone yet but these powerful creatures are fearsome.
Many peasant women have requested of you that they are allowed to plant berry bushes near there own houses.
Building
Artisans labor all day and into the night to complete the temple by the set date (next turn). Statues of fine stone are placed, the garden around the grounds is tended. Polished wood benches are places inside and the walls tell the story of you people from the birth of the gods.
Already many pilgrams arrive to view the temple. Some even offer to help though many are content to pray at shrines setup around the village.
Training
You are angered by the lossof such a good student so that she may have another one of your father's bastard children. Though your head teacher promise she may return she says few mothers are able to find the time.
In your mind though a question is raised. With other possible heirs to your father's position you are less secure in yours. Still the girl is sweet and kind.
Diplomacy
It goes well as always. The merchants are happy to see you and did not expect your father who is off hunting with a group of followers (scribes, friends, muscians, Greek whores) on the plains searching for lions.
You know of the other 5 Eqyptian villages and roughly how to find them on your island. There is another village on the island that you do not know. They speak of this Roman city....it is the size of 5 villages combine. It has large fields, and many great buildings of stone. Even underground tunnels to bring in and take out bad water. It has a huge market place. Also boasts armies numbering the size of villages.
Roleplay & Explore
Jason seems to enjoy spending time with you and many times you feel his eyes on you as you walk with him through the village.
After touring the village and seeing your warriors Jason returns to dine with you at the palace. He is a hardy eater but smiles and enjoy the music that is played throughout the meal.
Once the servants have cleared away the food and plates but for the wine Jason opens up to you about a great many things.
"I like your village very much and after my sea journey it is welcome. That boat should have sunk a great many times. Also there is a great squid out to sea that has crushed galleys in the past. Some say it is over 100 years old."
He leans back in his chair and looks across to you and sighs. "I can build you a strong Greek style army if your men are willing to serve. You lack armor and formations that your possible enemies could exploit. These other villages that come here to trade may easily become jealous of what you have and decide to take it princess. One must always be wary. "
"I hoped that I would not have to continue my military career and inside become a poet or maybe a farmer. I will help though."
"Surely though you wonder why I came here instead of remaining in my homeland. The Spartans took control of all 6 Greek villages on my home island. They only believe in military prowess and do not create art. Though the other tribes continue to do such things the island is being turned into a fortress. If that was not bad enough the new king dreams of conguest. He builds a fleet for this purpose infact."
"The Persians a powerful enemy NorthEast of your island is there constant enemy. You to should be wary as well. Anyway Princess I commanded an Army of some 500 warriors. My failure it was determind was that I did not slaughter the Persians settlers after a battle. I had defeated their troops but the army brought with the many followers. Peasants mostly women and children to setup a base of operations home. I allowed them to go to the coast so that their empire may retrieve."
"I was found guilty of treason and they sent forces to slaughter the enemy. I escaped to Persia where I was welcomed as a hero. I stayed for a time, but I did not wish to make war on my countryman so I loaded supplies and set a coarse for your island. I was forunate to find my way here....."He smiles at you and sips his wine.
Celts......
This tribe takes a pass this turn which means they continue to do what they were doing prior. They loose benifits of moves that could have been taken.
The villagers are called to a meeting to discuss the strategy of how to attack the head hunters. They are unanimous in the decision to use the long bow to their best advantage. The inclusion of the longboat is often suggested too.
After many hours of discussion have passed and many jugs of ale have been consumed, the following late night/early morning attack strategy is decided upon:
Eric, skilled in the use of the long bow, will take a group of 20 men and as many young men and boys as are able to operate the longbow onto the ship. There they will sail till they arrive at a predetermined spot off the coast of the savages village. Once there, they will light their lamps. When they have been spotted by the savages, and thusly drawing them to their coastline and causing confusion amont the savages, they will begin to fire their arrows at the village, creating further chaos.
Lars and Olaf will lead another group of 10 men each. Once they spot the ships lamps, they will swim along the coast of the island, armed with only their swords wrapped and watertight. They must remain without armour as they cannot swim otherwise. Each group of ten will swim with the greatest of stealthalong opposite shores till they arrive around halfway along the shoreline. Once there they begin their part of the attack.
At the bottleneck entrance to the village, in the forest, await the rest of them men. The archers and the swordsmen who are armed with their new weapons. Once they receive the signal from the boat, they wait a predetermined amount of time till they begin their attack. Time enough for the 20 men to swim to their destinations. However, the swimmers are not there to simply start slashing and hacking. They are to sneak into the houses while the village head hunters are distracted by the boat and try to get as many slaves as possible onto their side in the shortest amount of time. They plan to do this by getting the slaves to rebel against their masters by offering them their freedom and a fresh start as their own masters in the vikings village, then getting them to quickly spread the word amongst the other slaves.
After the predetermined amount of time, Thor, riding his warhorse, joins the rest of the viking warriors into battle, closing the only entrance left to the village. A few archers will remain in the forest to stop any who try to escape. The rest will systematically wipe out the head hunters once and for all. Hopefully, the archers on the boat will have broken the back of the main force of the headhunters by the time that the main attack is started so casualties should be kept to a minimum. The men on the boat are also equipped with swords, so when they see their own men attacking the savages, they will row to shore to aid in the hand to hand combat.
Now all that is left is the right timing...
Harvest
Stocks are up. The apple crops are starting to sprout, looking very promising indeed. Thor's horses are proving very useful indeed in tilling the ground.
Personal Project
Olaf and his apprentices are working very hard at making the swords and armour needed for the upcoming battle. Olaf himself occasionally instructs the boys in the use of the weaponry they are making.
Roleplay
Astrid and Olaf further their relationship by announcing their engagement. A feast is planned for the near future.
2 newborn are brought into the world, creating a feeling of joy and a brief, yet welcome relief from the worry of the upcoming battle. One of the fathers, Lars is simply over the moon as this is his first child and he cannot stop talking about his new baby boy, to the point where some of the other warriors avoid talking to him for fear of hearing about his "bundle of joy" yet again....
"I too aggree, we shall claim these ships for our own!" Ryutetsuo says with an unuseal blood lust in his eyes. He placed his hands on each of their shoulders. "This would not have been possible were it not for the three of us working together, I truly hope we will be forever united as friends." He looked out among his men, each of them still crying for revenge. "The both of you will have one ship, and we shall take one. We will decide what to do with the other two after we have them." He paused and wieghed the options of attack. "Together we have about five hundred and fifty men, let us split our men into groups of a hundred and ten each group shall take a ship. Tell your archers to rain death apon the decks before climbing. Together we have strength, let us make sure that no pirate comes to our shores again!"
With the festivals preperations consumming everyone for the last week everyone has been excited about the openning of the great new temple.. As Jason recommended more sodiers were making rounds to assure a safe festival for everyone.. and make the village a safer one... Neferti is busy getting dressed for the opening and once again father ... is going to be spoiling her dancers... as he always does when he get filled with Meade and wine from the temples. Sometimes I wish he would jsut not be here and I could do as I wished for the village everything he wants hinders the growth of this village.
Harvest
Neferti explains to the peasant women that they can be allowed to plant bushed of these berries in their homes so long as the amount stays the same to assure proper quantities for the village storage.
As also this will allow for more of the merchants to sell in the festival allowing hte village coffer to fatten with profit .. which Neferti plans to use to help strengthen the security around the village.
Building and Explore
Since the Temple is now finished there is progress for Neferti's father tomb .. as per the request of of her Father the leader.. a monument fit for a leader... Neferti grumbles under her breath about how she has to waste time on a tomb thats not going to be used in a while .. when we could be using the builders to build stronger walls and towers in the village and of these waterways that take out the bad water from the city...
Neferti was extremely interested in meeting some expert on the subject of these waterways .. and of course they would have to be protected ..so invaders would not be able to get in using these tunnels. Jason spoke about them so wonderfully that she became quite excited and had some of the merchants that traveled in that way .. she asked them to pass the message that she was searching for an expert builder of these waterways.
Training
After Jason worked with the blacksmith about explaining a new design for armor. Together they came up with a great design .. one which would help protect the soldier as well as being able to move quickly ...
Also Jason worked with the Captain about setting up new watches especially for the festival and explained a different way for creating formations which would make a more effective way of battleing and protecting everyone in the legion.
Diplomacy
It is just about dusk and the torches are lit around the newly built temple. Now it comes time for the inaugaration of the greatest temple on the island. The royal servants shows the great officals of the other villages to their seats in the front row next to Neferti's father as well as Jason as he has come to become a great asset to the village and is given a position of praise.. (and unbeknowst to him the one that Neferti has given the honored position)
In the rows surrounding and behind that of the Royals are those given to the many prosperous Merchants of the village, also of the ones that visit with the caravan leaders that frequently come to her village, as well as the caravan leaders themselves.
The the dancers come out to pay homage to the great Gods. They begin the dancing and the dancers dazzle everyone with their grace and agility.
And then the Dance for the Lands and the Village to prosper Neferti dances the seductive dance of Firtillity.. Seen only a few times.. As the Royal member of the Village it is her right to dance this dace for their village.
She is dressed in the Gold and white colors.. Gold for prosperity and white for purity.. A tingling golden anklet upon her right ankle, she dances with two veils which shroud her face .. keeping the illusion that woman has no face and the khol is deeply lined around her eyes to draw away the evils. Her movements full of grace, and each step is one that stirs heat in any that watch the dance.
Her father completely drunk from having imbibing on all the wine throughout the day, speaks loudly as his daughter dances that dance... "YOu know she teaches her dancers at the school. She teaches her students so well about the art of dance and seduction... everytime they dance.. I always get seduced by the allure... feel free to speak of her dancing school to her.. " He laughes and then says.. "You know dancing is one of her passions.. as you all can see .. she is very talented.."
Auset silently serves another glass of wine .. hoping the allure of it will cause him to drink rather than talk through his daughter's performance.
At the end of the dance, Neferti looks up and then begin's her proclaimation to the Gods, " Oh by the power of Mut...Nut... Khnum ...Ptah ... Nephthys...Nekhbet... Sobek... Sekhment... Sokar...Selket...Reshpu... Wadjet... Anubis...Anukis... Seshmu...Meshkent...Hemsut...Tefnut.. Heket ... Mafdet... Hotep... Huy... and Ra.. the great Gods and Godesses of Our Land.. PLease bless us so that we may always stay in your grace and Love. Bless our village and those villages around us with prosperity.."
The villagers cheered as the torches within the temple were lit. There was much rejoicing and many more entertainments out there .. for the many guests that came to the Village.
Roleplay and Explore
After Neferti finishes changing she dutifully takes her seat beside her father.. whom is already done for the evening.. Neferti signals her servants to take him to his chambers, so that the rest of the guests can enjoy the festivites...
She shyly takes her meals as Jason sits next to her as being the guest of Honor... They speak and she entertains the other officials at their table as being the only member of the Royal family of the Village .. Neferti discusses many things with teh other officals, Many ask about her school of dancing, which she happily discusses.
She covertly discusses trade issues, under the guise of innocence and she manages to get many contracts granted to her.. As this was her plan fromteh beginning.. of the festival.. she wanted her village to grow and become more prosperous. She also wanted allies in case she should need them. She tells them of the information of the Giant squid .. spinning it into a rather .. great tale.. thus entertaining them with that , as well as to tell them that Jason .. had managed to survive those dangerous waters.
All during this Jason Watches the Young woman twirl the offical to dance in her tune and watches her be the Lady of the Village. He now understood why so many of the villagers came to her for everything and not her father. IT was now apparent to him .. Who the Real "backbone of the village was.."
Throughout the dinner feast.. Neferti entertained and secretly watched Jason as well. Unfortunately for her, she has developed a soft spot for Jason .. one she doesnt waish anyone to know about .. most of all him.. Having worked along side of him.. She also wonder what he had thought of her dancing.. but ..she was so shy when it came to her feelings.. and when she became nervous she would pet her monkey whom she named "Kuto." Which has become quite attached to her.
latest turn answered sorry for the daily computer troubles...solved I think
The Vikings....
The Harvest
The tribe continues to stock up with some promising results. You welcome new livestock (2 baby horses, 3 cows, and a pet raccoon that the cook of your house has taken as her pet, and more chickens which are welcome to the diet). Some members of the tribe practice and toss harpoons at trees and wonder about hunting a sea monster (a whale).
Personal Project
Olaf simply does not have enough time to make enough equipment for the upcoming battle and resolves to prepare and refurbish all the old equipment as possible. Swords pasted down for generations and shields kept above fireplaces make there way to the workshop and are repaired and sharpened.
Soon your ready......and you will have 100 men for the attack on the headhunters. Also 20 women argue to join the raid after many angry hours of debate there is an agreement to let the come on the longboat. Many are angry by this but short of manpower soon it is agreed to let them come. Many are armed with spears and throwing axes.
The debate between you and Astrid is heard throughout the village the next days as she argues with you about going. She killed a wolf as a young girl and still wears the skin. She believes this gives her the right to go...and since you wish to marry this woman you find yourself annoyed but packing your gear together.
Other women do arm but to stay and watch over the village. They choose to move into the main hall and move food, firewood, and arms to the storeroom and wave to you as you all depart.
Some head over land and promise to wait for the signal but if discovered they will have too move.
Lars and Olaf speak to you and push to have rafts since it is a long cold swim. There is an agreement as that they will not take up much space on the long boat.
The Attack...
The plan seems a solid one and you make two stops before the headhunter village. First you leave Thor and his small group on the coast and wish them well marching on to the woods. You anchor the ship out to sea so that the rafts can be placed in the water. This is easily executed and you sail to the shore.
You are given a shock though. Not knowing the water you are caught on a sandbar near the coast. You are not as close as you wished and a small leak begins though a carpenter insists it will not take much water.
The attack must begin and the lambs are lit bighting up the whole ship. The primitives are shocked but soon are screaming and gesturing with their spears on the coast. Your archers fire on any heading to the large dugouts and flaming arrows rain down on the primitive huts, which go up quickly.
One very strong warrior steps in front of his other near naked comrades and throws a spear that hits the figurehead of your ship. Luckily the many others after him fail to be as successful.
Your raft and land parties soon enter the battle. Thor and his party cutting down any enemy warriors that tries to shift to fight. Olaf and Lars land and thanks to the rafts are able to bring armor. Even leather armor gives an edge against bare skin many headhunters are cut in half as wild revenge is taken for past raids.
One huge blond haired Viking named Riggs picks up one headhunter and impales him on his own spear. Lars is seen strangling two warriors at the same time. One of Olaf's apprentices takes an axe to their pagan shrine of stacked skulls.
The enemy looses all 100 of its warriors where you find only 8 dead but dozens wounded. Your army is tired as you police the area. You land your ship and look over the booty taken.
Some 300 spears are taken (good quality with metal heads).
Some 100 long bladed knives used in beheadings.
Most huts are burning but you take some 60 hides and 300 boar tusks.
4 dugouts are taken each look able to carry 20 men comfortably.
Oh the prisoners only women (80) and children (68).
The true victory of the day comes in the liberation of some 60 Viking slaves (50/50 men/women). Their tribe was destroyed when this tribe attacked one night surprising the warriors of the village. There are fiercely loyal to you know and grateful.
Astrid bleeds from a wound but assure you it is nothing and spends much of the remainder of the night setting up shelters for the warriors.
When you return you will return as victors...the entire island will hear of this great day.
The Asians
You stand with Ivan and Kim as the boats are loaded. Women from the village and camps come and are stripping the bodies of the enemy and tending to your tribes dead. One group of Asian women find a live pirate and five of them over power him and drown him in the shallow water near the shore. In triumph they hold up knives and begin stabbing him until he is a bloody mass.
Your soldiers continue to fire on the ships and the skeleton crew onboard is cut down in every volley. Soon you are in the long boats though the Vikings more skilled in this type of warfare are the first to board an enemy ship. Their screams of glory are heard and the flag of the enemy ship is struck and a Red claw banner is raised to the top of the mast.
Now there is race for honor and pride as your men pile on board a vessel at the same time as Kim's...Your Dragon banner goes up minutes before Kim's Panda banner though and a second of yours is seen as an odd collection of peasant conscripts and monks take the ship and a few prisoners. Most notably a navigator with books and charts.
The victory is sealed as the Vikings maneuver their ship close enough to take the Junk that was attempting to make its way out of the bay.
That night in the village songs of praise and glory are heard from every quarter. Mead and rice wine and cooks meats are plentiful. You drink with your allies and at least until tomorrow when the spoils must be divided your all friends. The village free of the pirates are thrilled and you are a hero as well as leader now to them once again.
The captured goods......
Over 500 swords, spears, knives and shields are taken off of the dead. Though many items have already been taken. Some 30 enemy prisoners are taken though many who remained on the ships were killed and all that you have taken are wounded. Many villagers throw stones at them as you lead them into the village.
Another note there is already talk of trade and some Vikings wish to build homes here in your village.
Today is a good.....
The Egyptians
The festival is glorious and you have gained a great deal of prestige for throwing such a great event. Your village will be know throughtout your island and possibly others.
Harvest
The women of the village head your warning and only plant enough trees as not to do damage to the supply of berries. Many are happy just to have more to feed their children.
Many berries are used to make wine for the festival. On the hot days it sells well to the many visitors.
Building
The temple is impressive to all and Jason has no problem finding builders, engineers, and architects that are willing to work with you on many projects with you if your willing ot finance them....
Your father is angried at you and hits you on the back of the head with his staff knocking you to the floor. Blood drips on to your white dress as you put a hand to the knott growing in the back. Your hand goes to your dagger......"You serve me child and you will do as I order. I shall need an heir soon and you will bear my child so the dynasty shallbe pure....after the festival!"
Before you can strike Auset enters and places her hand over your's and whispers....."not now my Queen. Wait in time." She leads you way. You manage to hide the bruise with your long hair.
Training
Soon there is a new suit of armor that is displayed in the window of the shop. It is metal and much tougher then hide and made of metal plates laced together with leather straps. Light weight and easy to take on and off....Jason is well skilled and you think anyone to exhile this man would have been foolish. He seems popular with the common soldiers.
Diplomacy
The inaugaration goes well and all the pilgrams that came to worship are impressed as well as many visitors a merchants. All are amazed and many applaud the dancers and the beautiful ritual dances performed before the newly built temple.
Through your veils you see Jason smile at you many times and you think even blows you a soft kiss through the crowd. Auset continues to fill your father's glasses throughout the night and you later you see him go off early with the young dancers head impreganated. You once again have to work the crowd walking barefoot in your dancing clothing greeting many. You are given many gifts of fresh cut flowers and animal skins from admirers. Auset spends much time collecting them for you and promises that you will find it all in your bedroom.
Roleplay
The feast goes well that night as many eat and drink in large quantities. Many enjoy the pleasures of your village and many comment of the beauty of your dancers and the wishes to lay with them as they enjoy the wine.
Off balance they are willing to talk some business and many agree that the four Egyptian villages should be united especially considering murderous Aztecs have a large city at the other end of the island. They practice sarcifice, piracy, and have a huge army...no peasants. Every adult male is a warrior.
You do find that many of the crowd are Arabs. Who were once a a raiding tribe but annexed by two of the tribes in a war years ago...
They are all impressed of the tales of Jason and you even see one scribe taking notes of his journey across the sea. Many times while you eat he smiles at you and you often find him looking at you as you speak to the crowd.
Kuto makes a pest of himself but in a playful way. He eats fruit off the table and even drinks out of your glass. Auset giggles and takes the creature with a banana and says she will place him in your room. Kuto is happy about the gift of a red leather collar from one of the wives of the merchants.
Jason holds your hand for the rest of the evening and then walks you to your room and speaks to you before you retire for the night. As you walk into to your room you think you hear whispered....."goodnight princess"
You find your many gifts piled up including a tall statue of Bastet which Kuto has already taken to climbing and playing on that night. A guard is outside your door and on the balcony above the garden. It is odd but Jason said more soldiers had been brought to the palace. You admire another gift before bed. It is a short sword with a jewel in the base of the hilt and the scabard is from an exotic snake.
You drift off to sleep naked warped only in your sheets knowing the guard would not dare look apon you and partly that your to tired to care.
You are awoken a few hours before dawn by Auset who quickly hands you a robe and hurries you to your father's main chamber which has a horrific site. The young dancer your father layed with is on the floor near the bed naked and pale. She is clearly dead, but a blue vile is in her hand. A quick sniff tells you that is a very deadly liquid poison. Tastes like orange then kills within seconds. Your father lays in he great bed sabbed what seems like hundreds of times. A dagger that you know is your father's is still jammed in his chest. He died painfully it would seem.
Auset pulls you aside and whispers to you as the palace awakes....."A crime off passion and nothing more leave it at that....She came to your father some nights ago to ask for help. He beat her until she lost the child. She was heart broke.....simply in need of guidance." With that your childhood friend walks off down the hall then she turns and bows. "My Queen?"
Neferti is shocked at the site before her. She screams for the guards and sees that they be properly tended.. and though it pained her to see her father die she did not blame the small child for what she had done to her father... she herself was afraid of what her father had planned for her, when the festival was over.
Luckily the builders were finishing up her father's tomb and at least that would be ready shortly after the festival... She would have to plan her father's funeral and have all of his concubines and personal servants .. perform the great ritual inside the tomb. So that her father would not be lonely, and they could continue their service to her father in the afterlife.
Harvest
The many plants are now set into the place where the storage for the coming of seasons to pass. There they make sure they will get past the cold season, and the season where the trees and plants do not bear fruit. Also Neferti asks the peasants to make sure that each family has enough for the coming season.
For the Next season is going to be a rough one... They should nest the seeds for the next season's plantings. Neferti also proclaims that each home should have a small garden , and the garden should then pay tax .. a small one...that is proportional to each home's harvest. This is proclamation fro next planting season.
Building
The temple is impressive to all and Jason has no problem finding builders, engineers, and architects that are willing to work with you on many projects with you if your willing to finance them....
Neferti decides to listen to every plan that they wish to accomplish with an explanation as to how it will benefit the village and future impending .. or rather discussion of an alliance. Now that Neferti has no one to answer to because of her father's passing, she asks Jason to sit in as an advisor to her.. to help decide what idea to finance and what is best for the village.
Training
Very excited about the new set of Armor, Neferti quickly has Jason work with the Head Captains as to how to fight in this armor and thus how it will help to protect and be an asset should the village come to any harm.
Neferti smiles as she thinks of how much Jason has helped the Village. She also explains that she will want every soldier and peasant to swear their loyalty to her.. as now she will be the next Ruler of this village officially that is.
At least now the captains will not have to tiptoe around her father .. and come directly to her. For this also She wishes Jason's council and expertise as well as the head captains. She explains that she would like to have meetings to further and inform each other of the progression and advancement of this. The Heads and Jason to come together with her as a council.. believing that they should have a meeting every new moon.
She wished to have training with the new armor start immediately .. One never know when one will need her army to raise arms. And lets the Captains know that should they wish to expand their armies(sections of an army) they can make they announcement for any wishing to join the army to protect their ever prospering village.
It being extremely important with the upcoming meetings for an alliance with the other villages. Neferti also discusses with the assistant mistress, the one under Neferti herself, and explains to the dancers that should they be chosen by anyone official that they should be willing to go, other wise, they are free to stay within the schools home.
Also that there will be new students and that the more experienced students should bearing mind that they should help the newer students adjust.
Neferti personally explains in confidence that the newer students were slaves from the other officials and that .. we were accepting them to show our willingness to grow together and that nothing about any sort of plans that the village has should be discussed in their presence to insure that no secrets of the village are revealed to anyone else.
Neferti then has a small funeral set for the young dancer. Having no family she is to be buried next to Neferti's father when the tomb is finished. Which will be as soon as possible.
Diplomacy
Having accepted so many gifts, Neferti thanks them by sending each a bottle of the finest wine in the palace cellars. And a message thanking the thoughtfulness of that person's gift .. no matter the size or wealth of each.
The One that sent the statue of The God Bassat. She sends a set of prayer beads and a message saying that the statue was beautiful and hopefully some time she would like to meet the man that made it.. also asks if anyone knows of a great craftsmen that can make and can design fine jewelry.
Roleplay & Explore
Neferti smiles and sends her most skilled dancers those in her special class, and those that can defend themselves and feign stupidity while listening in case that anything of importance was being said.
When wandering around the crowd, she made sure that she met the Arabs that came, and welcomed them to her village, and asked whether they were in need of anything and should they want establish trade between the them she would be most happy. Neferti also asked about , where they came from and what they wanted when they came here.
Smiling she continued to listen of their island neighbors the Aztecs and how there warriors were formidable and was secretly grateful she was having Jason train more that were eager to defend their city. She hoped the special tactics that Jason was teaching would help in the defense and the armor help defend those that defended her.
She nodded her head , “Yes I do agree some sort of alliance should be set forth .. perhaps there is a way to combine our villages .. perhaps under a common leader.. or a council in which guide the leader to do what is best for all the villages. Also I believe that if we were to combine all of our armies together under one regime then this will make our army just as formidable as the others.”
It being extremely crucial to know what other thought.. She knew she would never give her hold up of her village. It had become the most prosperous and now most defended village of all the Egyptian.
The ceremony of the Funeral of her father had been a formal one. And the ritual of taking all his loyal servants was currently being performed in the unfinished tomb where the room will be sealed after the drinking of the sacred wine.
She didn’t like the idea of some of her people being stuck in the after life to forever be servants to her lazy and lustful father. A good thing though is that all his royal concubines and wives were sent with him. That she was most definitely not sorry for.
After the ceremony Neferti spent some time alone in her chambers as fitted the role of the grieving daughter, however, she also had to prepare for the ceremonies so she could ascend the throne of her village, hopefully the other villages will have decided upon a leader or an alliance of some sort by then.
Day by day the more time Neferti spent with Jason the harder it was to fight the feelings that were aroused every time she was in his presence.
She didnt want to feel weak, and she didnt yet know if she could rule and choose her heart. Still she refused to Jason of her feelings though she thought that he had an inclination of what she felt for him. He helped her so much and made such a great leader for the soldiers.
The victory cheers are short lived as the men are tired. Olaf arranges for the injured to be sent via the dugouts to the main boat to be treated there and shipped home as fast as possible. The 8 dead warriors are also loaded onto the boat, so they may recieve an honourable burial. The spoils of the battle are also loaded. Olaf asks that the savages bodies may be gathered up and prepared for buried. Lars speaks in objection: "They are nothing but beasts Olaf, why are we wasting our energy burying them. Let's just pile them up and burn them." Olaf replies, "Because, my friend, the prisoners are still watching. They are watching for excactly this thing. If we are to have their alliegance, then we should do all that is possible to show them that we are not savages. That we honour them in their death. Now you can either help me dig this, or I will do it alone. It's your choice."
At that, Olaf continues his digging. Lars and the rest of the remaining warriors watch for a while, silent. A body moves from among the group, pushing forward towards the grave. The men part, to see that it is one of the freed slaves. He picks up a shovel and begins to dig alongside Olaf. The rest of the men, seeing that, also one by one, move in and begin to dig. By nightfall, the grave has been dug, the bodies laid down and covered. The prisoners, watching all this, are crying for their lost loved ones.
That night, camp is made, guards are set to watch over the prisoners, and sleep comes quickly to the tired warriors.
The next day, the men, after a hastily prepared breakfast, are eager to get home to their wives and children. Especially Lars, who hasn't seen his newborn on over 5 days now. The prisoners are grouped, and the trek home begins. It is expected to take some 3 days at the speed at which they can now travel with the children amongst the prisoners.
Harvest
Plans are already being made for a feast. Those who remained at home were so confident of victory, that they have been preparing a feast for 3 days now. The women are using the stronger of the children to help them in their preparations. The village square is set up with a huge pile of wood in the centre, circled by a line of tables. The women have slaughtered 3 fully grown cows and 10 sheep. Bread is made, more than 300 loaves have been baked. Fruit and vegetables are prepared, and the barrels of ale are rolled out. Some of the boys have been fishing off the dock and the contribution of their catch, although small, was gratefully accepted. Lars' wife, Marla, with her newborn baby slung on her back has been instrumental in the delegation of duties, the setting up and the preparation of the food. Without telling anyone why, she also instructed another pile of wood be set up just outside the village, near the dock. She knows what war is like and that noone escapes unscathed, however, Marla prays that it won't be necessary.
The boat is spotted coming around the corner by one of the boys fishing and he rushes off to tell the others. Soon, the whole village is waiting on the shore for their arrival. When it finally docks, there is a frantic scramble by the women to get aboard, but Marla takes charge and soon stops that. She speaks to Eric, the warrior who sailed the boat home and finds out the details first. After sending the children away, she then calmly instructs those injured and able to walk to get themselves off the boat first. Then instructs some of the women to help the more badly injured to shore and for their wounds to be taken care of. Then she begins the grim task of moving their dead. All those helping in this task have tears streaming down their faces as they recognise their friends and loved ones who lost their lives protecting them. Help and consolation is offered to those few who have lost a husband or a father.
Preparations continue with an aim now of the expected time of arrival of the rest of the victors, although a rather more somber mood dampens their spirits slightly. Occasionally the racoon with its food stealing antics brings a laugh to the people helping. Eric is able to assist with the preparations as well as is Astrid who also took the journey on the boat.
Ryu sighed as he stood on the dock were the battle had taken place only a few hours before, it was night fall now, he could not decide his next plan of action. For so long it was destorying the Pirate attackers now what was there to do? There were two extra ships left to decide what to do with and not a man among his people knew how to crew them, However, he was sure the Vikings at least a few of them did. He did not like to rely on outside help but how else does one learn things. The prisoners had been disposed of, what was he do to with wounded pirates? They had been forced to clean the bodies of their dead themsleves, each had a rock tied to them and their bodies wrapped then dropped into the ocean. Then they themselves had been killed at had the same done to them. He had to do it, he could not waste the healing resources on the enemy, nor could he have a theif and a killer living with his people. His own dead and those of his allies had all been buried and properly respected. His men were tired but that did not stop them from having a feast of victory and rememberance of those lost, the party had lost some of its energy and was begining to die down, many of them returning to their homes or tents. He was quite sure a population boost would be comming in the next few months. He had some ideas for the two extra ships but he would wait until morning to talk it over with his allies. For now he was content, still he could not get over at the speed his men had taken care of the pirates. It had been increadible, he was quite proud of his people and would tell them so tommorow. Sleep however was needed as he headed back to his home for the night.
~The next Morning~
DIPLOMACY
"My friends," Ryu said to his allies. "Our vicotry yesturday was an increadible joint effort. Without the combined forces of all involved, while I have no doubt that we would still have acheived victory, our causelty would have been much worse. As it stands now we have some choices to make. Each of us had a ship of our own capable of sea worthy travel, my people have no knowledge of how to piolet such vessels. Ivan, perhaps some of your people can stay and teach us how to use them? This leaves us with two extra ships, I propose these two ships be used by each of us for trade between us so that we may prosper and grow together. The others shall be for everyone to do with as they please. I would like to set up a network between the two ships that each of us can use, and should we find any other freindly countries we can indeed trade with them as well." He pasued as an aid handed him a document he had written just before going to sleep. "This may be a little soon but I feel that it is the right path for each of us. An permanant Allience between our nations so that we may better protect our borders and prosper together in glory. I have already signed the document as my pledge of loyalty to each of you, does our friendship grow or stay were it is? That is the question I ask of you?"
ROLEPLAY
As Kim and Ivan thought about the document Ryu stepped outside to his men that had gathered to see the next move, they were in for a surprise.
"I am proud of each and everyone of you. Not just the warriors, but those of you that could not fight. It is on the backs of each and everyone of you that this victory was possible. You called me a hero last night but I am unworthy of that priase." His men voiced their opinion that he indeed was a hero and nothing he could say would change it. "No, I am not the hero. That is not to say there is not an Hero among you." His men looked confused if it was not their leader, then who was it? "To find the Hero you seek is quite simple, look at the people around you. Your friends, family, then look at yourself. All of you are the real Hero's!" The crowd cheered, some of the more comical men jokingly started calling themselves by their name and added Hero on the end. "There are two among you that I wish to acknowledge personally, will Endo step forward!" An aid passed a sword to him as he stepped forward. "Endo you showed bravery and courage on the feild, beyond what was called of you. As I am sure you have told everyone you could, it was your sword that completely ended the leader of the pirates. This is his sword, it is rightfully yours, our smiths have cleaned and polished the blade and our priests have blessed it clean. May this sword stay in your family for generations." Endo took the sword in awe and bowed before Ryu, he pulled it free of it scabbard and wrttien along the blade was the tale of his heroic effort. The men cheered as he returned it home to its scabbard. "Come stand beside me." Endo did so, albeit releuctantly. "As I said earlier there are two of you, will Haruko please come forward." Another aid handed him a box with the Dragon banner inlayed on top. Haruko kneeled before him, he was only a boy no more older than eighteen years, Ryu smiled knowing what this would mean to him. "Haruko, it is with your spear that held our flag that first began to kill their leader. You two showed bravery above what I had asked of you and you put your life on the line to protect me. It is for this reason that I have created a new position of honor. You are to be the first to hold this position. They will be called Samurai, they will train longer and harder than regular troops and will be the elite fighting force of our lands. As First Samurai you and only those in your position in the future shall be allowed to wear clothing with this patch." He opened the box, inside was an embroidered patch, the symbol of the Dragon. "May your battles be faught well with honor!"

The Egyptians
Harvest
The general feeling from the people of your village is that it wouldn't be a bad thing to have more food on the table and less to pay to the merchants. For those that live in town and are crafts people they are more then happy. On the street Mayati the wife the pottery shop owner with several children greet you...she bows and smiles, "I am home with the children extra work isn't fun, but it will be a change and we can feed the children even better."
Others have begone clearing land already for the next planting and some have built pens for livestock and have inqueried if pigs and chickens will make good payment as well.
Building
Many still marvel at the construction of the the temple and the priesthood has many more recruits and visitors then before as all come to worship and study. The town's visiting population is in the thousands now and many tents of all sizes surround the village. The local economy is flourishing. Many merchants that you have never seen have set up shop next to the temple paying tax to the temple for the space.
Training
The dance school is doing well as every day slaves from other villages arrive with representives from the owners to enroll young women to dance. A Egyptian merchant that does not call anyone village home arrives with some 300 Greek women all bond. His name is Akunosh a merchant, pirate and mercenary. Also know as Akunosh the Scorpian and comes with a large carvan with many horses and camels and some 100 plus Arab and Zulu mercenaries. They are all wel armed and tough in appearance.
He makes camp and sends to the palace a longsword with ivory handle and jewels on the scabbard with a scroll. He wish to have all his women trained as soon as possible and wonders how you would like payment.
Your military is reorganizing well under Jason's guidence and only the best are being selected to train in your new unit. Though your two captains ask who will command the new unit and are still wary of this foreigner who has knowledge but they know little about the man who drinks with him like a brother. Nothing but secrets they say......
Still Jason trains often and hard with the men and has skills that few know about you many different things about him through the week. Jason has been at the carpenters shop and has been repairing his small boat and showing other's how to build his type. In drinking beer with other men he often wins the ax and knife throwing contests. Jason also won a race with a group of arabs riding a station for an older man who was unable. He was supposed to have one much gold from the match. He has also tanken to laying with a Arab woman named Zahra who is said to be beautiful and sing well.
Your captians do honor your request to increase the army which seems more and more necessary. They do agree that volunteers would be more useful then drafting a large number of young men against their will so they take up a spot in the village square and setup a "recruiting station." A few days pass in the first week and before the merchant arrives a scribe that assists the heavy infantry Captain Mereruka comes with a scroll of all the volunteers. The scroll is long with names and each numbered some 650 have volunteered for servce. Whether they all make it to much less through training is another matter though. At any rate it has the potential to have a very large force under your command.
Also Jason mentions over dinner that perhaps because of the assassination you should setup a palace guard just for your protection.
Diplomacy
Your note and bottle of wine goes back to the five leaders of the other villages. They all remain in the village but wish to return as soon as the funeral is complete to tend to their own affairs. The five are Mose, Narmer, Semerkhet, Mankauhor, and Nany the only female ruler besides you a mature woman who was the one who sent you the staute.
Nany responds a few days later to your note explaining she has the artist under her commission working on a private project and will be for a long time to come, but promises to send him on his way to you with no delays after. Semerkhet's wife Anhay who has been in the market place most of the stay is a young trophy wife. She does tell you that there is a jewelar that makes all of her lovely items and she will refer him to your village.
Roleplay
In secret your dancers are taught the way of the knife and how to fight. Many of the slave women particularly take interest in these deadly lessons. Some just giggle but all learn it like any other lesson.
The funeral is impressive and is handled like any state ceremony. You dawn black clothing and nod to all in the village that come to to pay their respects. Many of your family and servants are not happy but all go to the tomb to lay with your father. In a more private ceremony the young dancer is layed to rest Auset places several roses in the hole with her before praying.
After the funeral you soon find yourself with the other five leaders. None like the idea of losing any control of their villages and refuse to combine villages. They argue for many hours but agree to all send forces to make a united army. There is still a debate unfinished when they all leave for home which is whether to wait for the Aztecs to attack or attack them first. Either way this is a situation that is far from being resolved.
Another matter though soon comes to your attention. Auset brings you a note in the confuse before the funeral your father's last and youngest wife a girl you knew from school named Cleopatra escaped being put in the tomb she took with her Rames a bastard son of your father's from a union with a peasant woman. Jason and other went searching for them but they escaped on a Perian merchant ship. Cleopatra was never a good "mother" to you and was always plotting to take the throne.
The oath of loyalty is impressive to the other leaders and no one refuses to swear and oath to the new queen. It is said that even more peasants are moving into your village.
The Vikings
The Aftermath...(interesting new addition)
The night is long after the battle as you work hard moving the plunder and tending to the dead. Several trips on the longship ferry a mixture of prisoners, plunder, the rescued, and your warriors. For those who died your warriors don't wait for them to arrive home the send them to the next world. Oskell the mystic and warrior that lives in the hills around the village takes it upon himself the handling of the dead.
He takes on of the captured dugouts and fills it with dry wood and then the bodies with the weapons and brings it out to sea. He returns and takes out is bow and fires a flaming arror into the boat and it is set ablaze.
He draws rune symbols in the sand and watches the fire. "It is done and they fly to the next world."
Most pause but the work continues. Until all is done. The men sleep in the huts until all can return home from the battle. All are tired but they are all men now after drawing first blood.
Eric does take you asside though and asks how the plunder will be divided. He gives a passing glance at all the asian women being loaded on the ship at that point.
Harvest
The there is much stored up but the surplus and what extra can be found is gathered up for the great feast. once all have arrived in the village the feast truly begins with much celebrating and merriment.
Many drink heavily and often disappear to huts for special time together before returning and eating and drink more then before. No one is thought of being a glutton since all are happy to be alive and victorious. The children play the women swoon and the men drink. Offerings are made to the shrines for a great victory and the party that took three days to prepare goes on for a joyful and wild two days without intruption. Many toasts are given and the dead are remembered.
Housekeeping
Many issues need to be resolved after the battle with many wanting their plunder. In the past before your return to the village on the high seas it was always done and your warriors expect no different. All understand that you and the village get large shares but they expect their share.
Astrid sees that the prisoners women and children are gathered up and guarded. They build huts similar to the ones they left behind soon go up near the edge of the village. In their eyes you can see the beating hearts of the warriors that fought and killed.
The rescued Vikings are happy and eager to return to a village not unlike the one they lost. Many are thrilled that the nightmare has ended. Soon though they are looking for jobs around the community returning to normal.
Diplomacy
You know little about the others that live on the island because each village often wished to be isolated. So it is surprising to you with a day scrolls come from Torstein, Canute, Hacon, and Yric leaders of the other Viking tribes all requesting to meet with the great warrior chief. What they wish to discuss is not clear yet though.
Asians
ROLEPLAY
The prisoners killed and your wounded are bandaged. Arms are gathered and placed in stacks within the temple grounds. Though more then a few take weapons of those they personally killed so the total is reduced a bit since the scribes first counted the arms.
The navigator of one of the ships is dragged towards the beach like the rest screaming how useful he is to your tribe. A priest reads over the notes and book the man has and comes to you after stopping the guards. "He is an educated man and one that knows the sea. To kill him like the rest would be a mistake. What is your decision my lord."
While your allies think over your terms some questions are answered by a higher power. A storm rolls in one of the village elders calls it a Typhoon and judging by the damage it does you know it is a storm of great power. The wall at the top of the hill is wrecked, trees thrown around the beach and the ships are tossed about the sea. Those in tents suffer the storm and many take refuse in the temple. The storm last all night and the water seems to come down in buckets rather then drops. No one can remain outside. Your pet panda bear even comes into the main hall and lays next to the fire....
In the morning the results of the destruction become all too clear. Huts are pounded and animals are killed. The only good news is no lives were lost. The ships are in worse shape. Three are very badly damaged and two are sunk but in the shallows.
In surveying all the damage a Viking ship builder among the Viking party looks over the ships. He reports that they can strip the two sunk for supplies and the others are repairable.
The ceremony is well timed and the people rejoyce and your even more respected then in the past. The veterans of the battle are thrilled and your new samurai are already making changes to fit the new position. They are already making special armor (think samurai walking armor) for the rank and have taken a space in the temple grounds for their own smith (a young norsemen agrees to the job) and priest. They are also talking about breeding horses and making personal banners.
The dawn of a new kind of warrior has arrived.
Diplomacy
Despite the loss of the ships all parties agree two take the damaged ships do the repairs and cut their losses. Soon though they return sighed documents to you with the pledge to fight with you and trade in time. Though Ivan and Kim do not wish to exchange ambassador they will send ones to be in your village permently. It is agreed that there will be a official or noble and a priest from each tribe. One of your priest's offers to give them stone houses within the temple's grounds. Soon the allied tribal banners hang from these homes.
Ivan does tell you he will allow those interested in living your village allowed to move if they wish. Kim says the same and has already given his brother the post of ambassdor to your tribe. Ivan has also taken a geisha to be one of his wives.
Soon one of your men returns with a message from Ivan. Of the party that came to fight 200 soldiers, sailors, craftmen, scribes, whores, priests, and farmers agree to stay on and be your subjects if they receive their own land. Once you committ they will move their families to the area. Ivan is not please but does not argue either. Some 20 of Kim's men agree to stay asking for similar consideration.
The priests, elders, and warriors all meet at the temple and wish to discuss the next move. Others also wonder why your not married.
OOC: Will have some more game stuff posted in the OOC thread to help you all soon.
Asians
Within the temple grounds a blacksmith not known for his weapons making takes a captured pirate weapon. The weapon nicknamed, "the Chinese broadsword" is easily copied. It is very long and fat with a wood handle. It is a peasant's weapon and nothing like the fine katana. The smith eager to show is worth to you and those of the temple makes 10 within a week.
Vikings
The sport and hobby of throwing axes takes hold within your village. Many are tossing them for fun and becoming very skilled. You begin to see target posts all over. A farmer who was trying a different hatchet design has created a deadly weapon and has made many since all peasants and warriors seem to want them for use.
Egyptians
You awake one morning to find two slave girls battling wearing little else then sandles with short swords and shields that look like half a barrel (think Roman shields) for a group of your guards and merchants in the courtyard. The shield blocks the attacker and allows for a short sword to be thurst into the attacker. The match is declared a draw when one girl slashes the other's arm drawing blood. Gold is exchanged. The merchant seeing your annoyed face on the balcony in only your rober flanked by Auset.
He nervously offers the women and weapons as gifts to you before leaving the palace.
Things.....found close by
The Egyptians
Though you have noticed them before this new weapon system.....Errr....animal comes to your full attention. Many of the other villages have them. A pair of camels are given to you...each with one hump. The are impressive strong creatures and the male licks you with a huge tung.
The Vikings
Several falcons that have taken up residence in the rafters of your main hall seem even friendlier. Soon members of your group are using them to hunt other birds in the woods and on the coast. They are beautiful and deadly.
The Asians
A yougn Geisha out walking in the woods where it inspires her finds an unknown plane. For hours she watches the beautiful creatures frollic. She returns walking with a gentle white female horse she has befriended. She smiles, "I counted 40 horses not counting babies. May I keep her??"
Gifts of the Gods....
(all tribes)
If you have at least a shiren and a priest you can bless weapons making them stronger and more deadly. If you have a temple you may create holy banners, weapons, shields, and armor that bolsters bravery and will not dull. In battle priests may heal warriors (not bring back from the dead.)
Offerings are required since your priests will not do these actions for free...
(Any questions please ask in OOC or through pm.....Ride on)
Neferti calls for Auset and then askes her to send message to the mercenary outside their walls for an invitation to dinner at the palace. Advising that he should come in hopes to discuss their future business
Harvest
As she looks over the many small lands and fields of crops that are being harvested in town, she smiles her people will not go hungry and the merchants will still have many costumers due to many many visitors entering her village.
Everyday Neferti wanders her village with a small set of guards and Auset. She wishes to see how her village is doing first hand. Now that she was soley responcible for their welfare.
The animals were a good way for the families to earn more things to bargain with. But Neferti wanted to make sure her village stayed clean, she wished the animals to be taken care of properly and not free to roam every where just in the fields available to them.
Building
As Neferti make her daily visit to pay homage to her temple she notices the many new merchants and then settles over to view what they offer to her villlage after viewing all she sees that she likes most of what she sees she decides that the temple will benifit fromt eh extra funds they collect from the merchants and she makes sure that the merchants know that it is with her generosity that they stay where they are and are to be sure to know that their loyalty is to their village and no other.
Neferti was beinning to feel that she needed to find a someone she trusted enough to be able to help her with her ruling. A companion she could share this responcibility with, but she wasnt stupid. She briefly thoguht of Jason, but immidiately put him out of her head, she would invite him for the dinner this evening as well as the other captains.
Another thing to be checked is the caravans are still properly entertained. Also the village looked as though it needed to be expanded. Neferti ordered new housing to be built. Some more huts and homes with some plots that would be used to make crops for food, this would ensure that more peasants would have places to stay, and in return for the housing the peasants could give percentages to the palace and work as servants for the village after paying for their homes, they were free to persure any other mode of work.
Training
Entering the Dance School, she sees the many women sitting there waiting to see if she would take them in to her school, to learn the art of Dancing. Standing in front of them she ushers them into a room and sit infront of them on a throne after having them seated down on the floor she claps her hands, and then tells them of her school.
"Listen oh Women from across the sea, you have a choice here, either you can learn from this school , or you can tell me you have no wish form me. Either way I do not care. My school has always been a home for many of our woman. They are not all slaves, some are here of their own free will and wish a trade to use for income. You will have that choice. Tonight I will dine with your owner and he asks what payment to give in return for your training. I wish to know how many of you wish to train and better yourselves in this regard and how many of you have no wish of this at all. I promise that I intend to buy most of you, some of you may wish to stay with me , and some of you may not, you may want to be free, you must tell me. I am here to listen. But the price of your freedom may be high and I have no wish for slaves that do not wish to better themselves. Thus I ask you how many of you wish to train in this school"
Armed with that knowledge she heads to her captains and sends word that she wishes them to dine with her this eve.
A new unit is being formed and Neferti wished to learn about these men, and wondered whom she would have lead this unit. It was not always an easy decision. You also send word to Jason that you wish him to dine with her this evening. She was still extremly angry about him bedding an arab woman and her finding out about it. It wasnt that she wished him to stay celebite for her, but she wished some descretion and at least she wished to know if jason had feelings for her or not.
She as happy for jason to be able to assimilate into her village so quickly she was happy to hear of how much he was hable to help carpenters with their ideas about boats and such things.
If it didnt appear to Jason that she was aware of his where abouts she was happy. there was no need for him to know how attentive she was to his activities. Still she was happy to know that instictively Jason turned out to be a very honoable man.
When finally heading to the barracks to watch over the training that was now in full fledge for a new unit in the military. She needed them. She knew her village was expanding at a great rate and was thankfuyl for the many men willing to join and helkpprotect their home. In a speech to welcome them into their new positions she says, " I as Queen of our village Thank you for protectin my people. If not for you to come our village would be threatened and we would crumble. My love for you is great and your families will be well taken care of. "
She made sure that each Volunteers familiy was to be compensated for their man going into the army to protect their village. Those that had young families were to be posted within the village and need not be put into the barracks those that were not part of a familiy were sent to the barracks to be trained.
They new recruits were to be watched like a hawk and made sure that ones that excelled the drills were sent to be trrained under Jason for the new unit.
Neferti Then thanks Captain Mereruka for all the hard work that he did and hopes to contiune to work diliginately for thier village.
There were more guards that were screened and selcted to protect the palace. As it was imporatantt that the guards could be trusted to protect the palace from any intruders.
Diplomacy
Neferti send the village Leaders another missive inquiring as to how to go about arming when the time came to protect themselves from a common foe. Also to inquire if there are any noble men of marriagle to that she could discretly inquire about.. she wasnt looking , but she needed to know where to look should she decide to. Also to give them another invitation for the midwinters holiday and to come for the great ceremony that was to be held in a few months time for sleep. SHe wanted to pay homage to the God Osiris and the Goddess Isis as they were the protectors of the underworld and the givers of harvest come the next season.
Roleplay
The dinner is set up with the mercenary Akunosh, Jasona dn the Captains they all were entertained by some of the best dancers available. They were entertained while Auset got you ready for the evening. Neferti and Auset discussed how you were glad that jason didnt bring the woman with him to the dinner. neferti wanted to look her best and to make sure that everyone who saw her that evening had a very nice image to keep in their minds that evening. Her scents wre put everywhere, the scent of rose oil and lavender mixed with sandlewood. Her skined shined like honey. and Her hair was put into intricate knots ontop of her head. On could not tell exactly how long her hair was, unless they were at the dance that was performed during hte inaguration of the temple.
Also that evening, her plan was to give one of the special dancers to the mercenary for the evening along with one of the guest rooms that were available in the palace, that was the plan until She met him, then the offer never came.
She smiled and flirted through out the diner. Akunosh gave her gifts of the tiger felt and Jason showed her the first spear that was made for their army. This she was not to thrilled with. THere was no sense in showing what they were working on in front of a guest, but now that he did well, she made she he knew they she was happy fro the weapon, not happy with him. She continued to lavish attention on Akunosh. He seemed like such an exciting fellow, one that had some potential for future.
She hoped that she'd enticed him enough to want to find out more about her. For one thing she was most definately interested in his army protecting her village when in need of it. And maybe protectiing her.. well that was thinking for other times, she still was unsure if she could trust a mercenary. It did help thoguh that his mother was of her people. perhaps it would appear to look promising if she enticed him to want to be with her.. for maybe a more .. hmm.. permanent endevour.. but that was all in her head, she wasnt sure she could trust such a man, just as she wasnt sure if she was still interested in Jason.
She hoped after her performance during dinner that had changed things for him, otherwise she would definately persue the mercenary.
THe situation with the Aztecs she was unsure what exactly she had heard. It wasnt that she didnt want to go fight, but she was happy simply protecting her village, but if it came to losing her viallge and conquering another she would gladly do the latter.
You also ask Akunosh if he had seen a women with achild running away from these lands. SHe was unsure as to what to do with her mother in law cleopatra, but she most definately didnt want trouble, and that was what she was going to get if her "mother" was still free. It showed dishoner to not die with your husband a great king, when he died and not serve him in the after life.
Things explored and learned
The slave girls that Neferti finds in the morning she sends them off to get bathed and talks with them trying to lear of their background and what the reason for the barabaric display in front of her was for? Also she told them that they were free to be servants in her palace due to the fact that with teh three hundred women in the school there was simply no room for them in the school of dance, unless they truly wished to join. Neferti Tells Auset that she wants them watched and to make sure that nothing that they do goes unchecked.
Also that the camels are brought in and then are planned to be bred and some more are brought this to be able to cross the dessert in the case that they wished to explore things and new places. Perhaps then they would be able to gain more informations about their neighbors the Aztecs and what their plan is.
Your invitation is sent and excepted.....the rest you know as far as your jealous and interesting evening as the men compete for your love.
Harvest
The food situation seems to be well enough considering the influx of people to your village. Still though there is always a surplus to be sold at market and nobody is going hungry.
The new problem is feeding the massive number of troops you now have. An army eats alot of food and large amounts is delivered to the barracks each day cutting into profits and costing the government (aka you princess) a large amount of funds.
The animals pigs and cows mostly are penned in and the streets of the town are much clearer.
A cotten has become a cash crop as of late since fine Egyptian cloth can be made fromt he cotten. You have always enjoyed the sheets made from them but it is new to many foreigners.
Building
The sounds of hammers are heard once again in your village. With the temple complete it is easy to find workers available to improve the housing situation.
The builders and workers discuss what you want from the people and what the of coarse they need. The Farmhouse seems like the best design to go with and many of the villagers are happy with this new arrangement.
OOC: Information
[Large Hut
A step up with no major skills needed. This desigh is more solidly built and requires stone and wood. Unlike a hut with a cook fire this design has a chimmey. It can hold 10 people and has a store room so each home has its own supplies. Also it has a garden to at least give that family some food. Also a small shrine is there to your tribe's relavant god (for peasants often the main god.)
Farmhouse
Same as the large hut but with additions. It has a larger storeroom, workshop to repair tools, and make some craft items. This living space as the name suggests takes in a crop or livestock (ex. horse farm). It has a well and a shrine as well. ]
Your arrival at the temple is welcome as you go through the daily ritual. Many other patrons worship but live you to your prayers.
Meeting the merchants near the temple you navigate the maze of tents and carts. They pay rent for the spaces and though they are not happy to pay of coarse they are willing since profits have been so good. As you round one corner you see Zahra singing with a group of musicians infront of her tent. She is practically naked but it is clear that her singing ablity has drawn a crowd to her so that they may listen (say this is post meal.) She smirks at you and continues singing without missing a beat.
Auset whispers to you, "Jason sold some gold statues in the market and has bought a farm house, livestock, a stallion, and a statue of DEMETER (Greek Goddess of agriculture.)"
Auset smiles and tosses a few coins in Zahra's basket.
Training
The dance school is busy with all the new recruits the majority are the new Greek slave women. Most seem to be learning well enough though and the school has become truly a great source of income for you and the village.
The women seem receptive to your speach nodding as you speak. The idea of being part of your court appeals to many of the women. Akunosh seems to have taken most of them from coastal villages during sea raiding. A region of his home island has changed hands many times between Greeks and Persians as well as others. They continue on and are good solid students.
FEMI a neice of Nany the other village leader has come to the school and has her tent with many servants near the school. She is an average student with talent when she wishes to actually come to class. She does bring a letter of support from her Aunt and a more personal one to you asking you to put up with the girl and that she will owe you a favor.
SANURA is a teacher at the school and has been running it since you have taken on a larger role in running the village. She is a childhood friend and played with you and Auset as a girl. She jokes with you and her over tea and giggles at shared memories like swimming in the moat of the palace.
Sanura speaks of some business with you, "if you continue to allow this volume of students we need a larger building and more teachers. I teach three classes already and start at dawn and go until dusk. Seems every landowner with slave girls wants them trained. So many new faces and languages. My Greek has gotten better though." She smiles.
The military looks impressive and more like a Greek army then the soldiers you were used to seeing in the past. They are now heavy infantry with breastplates that are works of art and large round shields. The spears are better made and longer. They can easily defeat lite infantry.
The young soldiers are motivated and enjoying the training. For many poor peasants on the island three meals and a place to sleep is more then welcome. For many the barracks are the first real home they have ever had. There are so many recruits your captians have asked of how large of a force are you willing to support??
Out of the best local boys come the guards for the palace. Only those know since birth and most trust worthy will be allowed to guard the palace and yourself. The will be elite and will number 120 strong when finished.
There is also talk of chariot teams being put together (two horses, charioteer and archer) considering there are so many good horses around now.
Captain Mereruka himself has a team together had has used his chariot for hunting. He has already killed some deer.
Diplomacy
You soon fill papyrus with requests, invitations and well wishes for the other leaders in the area. Mose, Narmer, Semerkhet, Mankauhor, and Nany all respond to your various requests. All are willing to come for at least part of the midwinter holidays and generally with you well. Mose says he has only daughters and is in need of a son. Narmer the eldest of the group with a young wife says all his sons are married, but sends you a jade necklace as a gift and wishes you well. Semerkhet is your age and has a 3yo. son, and writes back jokingly that his little boy would love to meet you..Mankauhor has a son and is more then willing to have him marry you and combine kingdoms.
Auset who is going through the correspondence with you gives you a dirty look. "Do you remember him from the last visit? His idea of fun is to kill boars. He is a brute who cares for horses more then people. "
She smiles at you and playfully tosses the scroll at you, "sounds like an excellant husband."
Nany letter is friendly, but she has never married and has no children. Her sibling's children make her happy and she says one of them will receive her village. She writes back that if you find a good man send him by she will just keep him for the night. She does write on in a more serious manor and includes a report from a spy in the Aztec city. It reveals the many pray at the temple of their war god and the peasants are being conspripted in massive numbers. The spy said he witnessed no less then 500 warriors drill in the city square. They are vicious fighters who have no problem spilling blood. Also the spy believes there are Persian and Trojan mercenaries being recruited.
War looks on the horizan......
Roleplay
Dinner is less a state dinner and more a contest for your affection. You recieve many complements on your beauty that night from all including the dancers you now consider friends. Perhaps your hair should stay this way...
Auset jokes with you during the meal as she pours your wine. "Shall I put the silk sheets on your bed tonight." She just smiles and walks off.
The tiger pelt is soft and beautiful and you lay on it a bit later in the evening when your alone. The spear is a well made weapon since Akunosh knows of Jason's land you do not think anything was truly revealed.
The mercenary agrees to remain in the village for a time and is willing to fight but has to be payed. He is willing to do it in trade though and food and lodging would be good for now but gold needs to be payed at some point.
He smiles at you at one point and says, "though I can think of one good reason to remain in the region I always need to move around. For you though m'lady I could stay awhile." This had Jason fuming and hardly eating.
There are not reports of the ship but Akunosh says the Persians have a massive fleet of both merchant and warships. The Persians have a trade network archored by coastal settlements on many islands that they do not have total control of and trade with the natives.
The next day an exotic wine arrives at the palace with a note from Akunosh with thanks for the lovely evening. From Jason with a similar note arrives a pair of red leather sandles. Seems you have a choice of lovers now.
Old Business
AMABEL and OONA are the two Arab slave girls. They are both trained pit fighters and Auset mentions to you that while the bathed they had many small sword scars on their bodies and they ate like they had been starving. They have only expressed the wish to protect you and when you pass them in a palace hall they drop to their knees thanking you in Arabic.
The Camels are a welcome addition and are very powerful creatures. The roam the palace grounds. Your Monkey has even taken to riding the male while eating fruit.
New Business
The inlet the Jason landed his small boat is talked about by many merchants in the village square. It is but a few miles from where they stand and would be excellant place for ships to land.
A herd of Elephants graze near the village and drink from the river. Many children come out to see the large creatures which seem to ignore people for the most part. Many say that some even use these creatures for work and warfare. At any rate it impressive to see these creatures which move about the island so they have enough food.
Dividing the spoils of war is never easy. The men soon forget what actually happened and begin to embellish their deeds to try to warrant a larger booty for themselves on account of their heroism. Olaf spends many days and nights pondering the decisions he has to make. On the second night of the victory celebrations, Olaf excused himself early and went to bed, knowing he had some tough decisions to make very soon, and with the news from the other villages.... what to make of that!
Laying there, with thoughts tumbling around in his head he hardly noticed Astrid standing in the doorway, silently watching him. Her frame silouetted against the night light. She moved. Hearing the noise, Olaf jerks out of his thoughts and looks towards the doorway. Seeing her shapely form against the light, he knew who it was immediately. Unable to speak in his surprised state, she approaches him. Climbing on the bed, she crawls up to him and looking into his eyes, kisses him deeply.
The next morning Olaf wakes to find he isnt alone in his bed. Looking to his left, he sees Astrid curled up beside him, cuddled up to him for warmth and love. A smile spreads across Olaf's face, realizing that their bond of love is now complete.
Astrid and Olaf tie the knot in front of the whole village only days after the celebrations of victory are over. They are joined together in marriage by the mystic, Oskell, who bestows upon them the blessings of the gods. The night is again filled with laughter and much drinking and feasting.
Harvest
Much of the stores have been depleted by the celebrations going on, so the towns people get stuck into the work of harvesting the grain that was planted. Hunting parties are sent out to collect more meat to be salted and stored. The falcons are used to catch game. The dugout canoes are used for fishing as they are easier to use that the full galley but still has enough space to a decent haul of fish. Some of the hunters try using the spears taken from the head hunters village to find them very sucessful.
Diplomacy
Olaf calls for a meeting in his farm house with his closest friends and warriors. Sitting around the fire, some nursing sore heads, others still nursing battle injuries. Eric asks again of him what is to become of the prisoners and of the bounty. "I know some of you have different ideas as to what to do with the prisoners, I know some of you would rather they have been wiped out with the rest of them. Others among you would like to have them as slaves, to show them what they did to our brothers. However, there are more pressing matters at hand right now. The captives will continue to be guarded night and day as they have been until we decide what to do."
Olaf pauses," I have recieved news from the other tribes on the island." At hearing this the others look up at Olaf in shock. "What did you say?" asks Lars in surprise.
Staring atraight at his most trusted companion, Olaf repeats, "I have recieved news from the other tribes on the island. They wish to meet with me. I do not however know what they wish to discuss or even what their intentions are. I am asking for some advice, please feel free to give it. Lars? What do you think?"
Lars, silent for a moment, leans back and says, "The last time all the villages were gathered together like that was before you were born. I was 15 and I travelled there with your father as part of a large group. One of the tribes, had just defeated an army and we were to celebrate their victory with them. The feast wasn't held at their own village but at another one. Do you know the name of the place where you are to go?"
Olaf replied "to Yric's village."
"That's the same place as last time. I am a little surprised tho at the speed at which the invitation came, these things usually take time. So I am not sure as to what their true intentions are." "So what is your advice then?" inquires Olaf
"We should go. However, I do believe some precautions must be taken in case the worst happens, but also, I believe some gifts would be in order. Something we can give the other villages as a sign of goodwill."
"Anyone else?" Olaf puts forth the question. Thor puts forth the idea of unloading the captives to the other villages as slaves, much to the disgust of Eric who had ideas of his own.
Ideas are tossed back and forth for several hours. After much deliberation, Olaf makes the decision to send someone to acertain more details about the meeting. As a gift he is sending with him one of the falcons that have been trained to hunt. The owner, Knut, was a little reluctant to give it away, but when he was offered compensation of 5 hides taken from the booty collected, he allowed them to take the bird. Besides, he had the chicks now to train and they were old enough to do without their mother. Now if only he could get them out of the rafters....
The men unanimously choose Riggs, the large warrior who proved himself time and again during the battle, to go to Yric's village to meet with them and find out the nature of the meeting and to deliver the gift. Thor requests to accompany him on his journey, providing one of his horses for Riggs to ride.
The rest of the booty is divided as equally as possible among those who wished for something. Thor modestly pardoned himself from receiving anything as he felt that it was the least he could do to show thanks for the hospitality that the villagers had shown him. On seeing Thor and Riggs off on thier journey, Olaf, unnoticed, slips a long bladed knife in Thor's pack for his part in the battle.Riggs carries his massive war hammer with him as always.
The main hall in the town is decorated with some of the hides and boar tusks. Two of the spears and knives have been made into a display which is mounted on the back wall.
Training
The new members of the Village join in the training that is conducted by Lars. They are taught along side the boys and young men in the use of arms. Many of them remember their skills quickly, and are taught new skills such as the use of the longbow.
Several women are now included in these classes including Astrid and Marla, who also prove themselves formidable warriors. Astrid, already battle seasoned, becomes close friends with Marla, helping her when needed to increase Marla's skills.
Olaf continues his smithing and is joined by the farmer for a while to show him the new design of the axe. His apprentices are learning well at his tutelage. The one that was spotted destroying the pile of skulls during the battle has taken to one of the young girls that was freed from the savages' slavery. Olaf has to keep his eye on him to make sure he does a full days work as he was often caught sneaking away to see her. Reasoning with him,"You cannot make a good husband unless you have a way of keeping a wife, and the only way to do that is to learn your trade. Remember that."
Building
Work is started on a warlodge. Many men are assigned to go cut down some large trees for the project. Others are assigned to dig the base and lay the foundation stones. The women are busy making tapestries for the walls and helping with the construction as well. Rumors are heard around the village of a temple being built as well.
Olaf and Astrid are now married and the union is celebrated throughout the village and is seen as a postive sigh to many. A leader and warrior needs an heir to carry on after he has gone from this plain.
Harvest
Work resumes after the feasting as all see the need to replenish rations that have been devoured. Many say more farming is necessary but the hunting continues. With more spears your peasants once unarmed have finally been able to take part in the hunts more actively. In fact a group of peasants not warriors are responsible for killing a rampaging bear. Fish is on the table now more then ever with the addition of the dug outs men go out with nets and spears every day bringing in fish and have even caught a few sharks. You know how two good natural sources of food going.
Diplomacy
After many hours of heated debate the booty from the victory is diveded though you suspect some have already taken some since the battle but little can be done to help that now. All seem to be fairly satisfied with what they have received. The display of weapons in the mainhall is good for your personal status. Young warriors look up to you and a legacy continues.
The captives mostly Asian women crowd into some of the abandon broken down huts and eat what scraps come from the tables of your people. They seem resigned to their fate and do not try to escape but their is often a look of worry in their eyes.
Thor and Riggs ride off on two of the few horses you have in the village. This in itself shows your people that it is a serious matter that your undertaking.
Thor rides back within the week with news. Many merchants and foreigners have come to the meeting site and three key points are in in qustion. Also he add that your the only village leader not present at the meeting.
The three points are......
The tribes feels they should be united under one king........but who among them?
The Romans pose a threat across the channel. The are not great ship builders but they have a a great army numbering in the thousands.
How to deal with the Phoenicians. A great sea people which trade with almost 80 islands and on 2/3s of those have outposts which allow them greater access to each island.
What does a village leader........warrior do...
Training
Many train now with both the throwing ax and long bow. The use of this new long range bow spreads throughout the villege and it is well liked. Though many warriors used to close range fighting and spilling blood with blades regard the weapon as more a tool for hunting the the battlefield. Tactics and strategy as well as beliefs need to change to include this new and impressive weapon in your arsenal.
The new weapons continue to be produced at the smith and knowledge of how to make them is pasted on to the young men who help create them.
Building
Warlodge
You begin construction on the new impressive facility and already many skilled warriors ask for a place in it with their families.....the compound goes up with in the month and already it is being filled with only the best in equipment and other creature conforts. Only the best timber was used in construction and good stone. Soon the whole compound is up and running though. It has its own shrine....workshop and brewing its own beer (see below.) Warriors wait for you to pick who will live there now that is completed. You have yoru fortress farm already so other elder warriors wish to resided in such an honorable place.
The "warrior factory" these places are for heroes and their families. Many of your veteran troops prefer living in this type of build then the barracks. This type of building can hold 30 people and often display the trophies from the past campaigns and hunts as well as captured booty. Banners hang from the rafters of the mainhall where most events happen while others sleep in rooms off to the sides. Besides the main building there is a large workshop for making and repairing arms and armor, a shrine to your main god or war god, and a small hunting lodge and ale house. A compound that is surrounded by a short stone wall so I can be defended.
KNowing how well the shore wall was against the pirates it is ordered rebuilt to detour future attackers. Also it is asked of the now viking residents of the town if they know of a way to make stronger homes and protection against future stroms. All are asked for ideas for new housing and protection.
Harvest
Restock the warehouses for the comming winter monthes
Repair
Ask the viking ship builders to help all who are willing to learn, to teach the people about building duplicates of these ships and new ways to build better ships, such as ones that might fair better in storms.
The Horses
Have our animal trainer teach the horse to be rideable and yes the geisha may keep her as long as she takes us to the others. Send out a team to bring in the other horses and begin training them to be strong horses for calvary.
RolePlay
After being sick for nearly a week after the storm had hit Ryu finally was able to move again under his own power. He stood now looking out across his home land from his vantage point high above. The walk had done him good after being bedridden for so long. He felt invigerated, alive, anything could come his way now and he would meet it head on. In his daze he had a vision, in this insight he saw a land of superfulous attention to every detail. A land of honor, a noble land where all those in it would be proud to serve and work. He saw grand stuctures, huge palaces filled with large families. Helthy farms and all those that came into this land stood in awe and fear. Great warriors, the Samurai roamed the country side both fearsome and inspiring. Any who came close to these proud masters of battle felt greatly inadequet.
He sighed, his vision seemed like a dream, a fairy tale it could never come true. Not out of the small band of huts and buildings they now called Tetsuo. His subjects had given it the name. Still he could dream. Slowly he stepped down from the rock he had been on and made his way back to his home.
Welcome back my friend......good to have you back in the game.
Building
The shore wall is the main priority and all the free peasants are on the hills above the the bay working in the heat of the day. With morter and skill the mason's of your village guide the building of a impressive 6ft high wall that is 2ft thick. A walk way allows one to walk and defend the wall eaiser. Part of the project to make things easier is a road to the village from the bar area.
Many have mentioned that it would be productive to build up the docks. Some villagers taking advantage of the large fish in the area have build huts at the bottom of the hill and take out small 3 man boats to go fishing.
One of your Captian's has made scetches of towers for the wall and leaves them at your house while you were recovering.
The Vikings and other local builders recomend the following....
Farmhouse: It will improve food production and the standard living for all your peasants.
Fortified Farm: Your viking residents wish to build these and some have already begun. One house built by a Viking sailor/farmer is rather impressive with a large main house and stone wall. You even see cows, sheep, and a few horses grazing in the grassy area near his compound.
Warlodge: Several of your new samurai warriors express interest in this type of building. They wish for more brothers in arms and their own armor makers and priests.
OOC: Read about all these building types in the OOC thread for this game.
Harvest
For many it is a welcome return to the regular chores of farming. You are now growing rice and wheat. Fruit is also being stocked and many chickens and other live stock are available. There is no surplus this year but there is enough.
You find since your victory more and more peasants are pouring into you village. Many more huts can be see then before.....your not sure how many peole now reside within your domain.
Repair
There is a great debate among all the carpenters, boat builders, and shipwrights in you village over many mugs of ale and cups of rice wine. The meeting a new Ale house named Happy Dragon (has large craved wooden sigh with a gleeful looking dragon sipping from a large mug of amber ale) in the in the viking quarter. The first project is to repair the existing ships
Stripping the partially sunk ones thanks to many local divers. The additional parts make it easy and all three proud tall ships are sailing once again.
The ship builders have built a few workshops at the base of the bay for the repairs but say they will need something much large for new ships to be built. Also there will be a massive need for timber and other materials for construction. The have come up with a new design though that is impressive. It sails long ranges, two rows of oars, huge sails and plenty of room for cargo and men. This new design will be larger then anything afloat right now (it is kinda of like one of the designs they had on the way to building galleons.)
The horses
Normally more live stock would not raises an eyebrow but more horses are always welcome. Impressive astrong and fast. Many children take great joy in feeding the colts apples. Namiko the Geisha who found the first of this herd is often seen riding her's through the village and fields.
Both warrior and farmer alittle want these animals. Your elder woman who has trained and raised your animals like your panda says in time she will have many more for you if you allow the herd to grow. This heard is of a hardy workhorse type but can easily bread for samurai to ride into battle.
Roleplay
Namiko rides by and waves to you stopping briefly. you notice she has begon to wear light leather armor and a katana her long hair braided....
All in the now thriving village of Tetsuo are happy to see their lord is up and well again after the rains. The village is bustling and your making strides foward.
A new sword smith has made a gift of a new katana with an ivory handle to you with symbols of protection and strength on the blade.
A rumor is out that some of the monks miscounted the arms taken in the battle and have hidden them to sell to bandits and other tribes. Nobody knows the truth.....
Midweek a black man walks into the center of town and sits down on a large stone near the temple. He is in a lion skin and loin cloth carrying a shield, pair of javalins, and staff.
"For 100 silvers....I shall tell your lord where the next danger comes from...an enemy shall be apon you soon." A monk hears is word and comes running and looking for Ryu....
Name: Arilias Tyrus
Sex: Male
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 210
Hair: Short cropped and jet black
Eyes: Green
Age: 28
The expedition:
Your father is a Roman official who like many other rulers on the 110 island world has difficulty controlling anything thing beyond the borders of his village. As of late your brother has seen a string of victories on your home island defeating the celtic tribes and uniting the other Roman villages under his banner. There is little place for you so your father wishes you well and assigns you to renforce another outpost a weeks sail to the south.
So you pack up your flagship and with 24 other transport ships (one 100 man cohort per transport ship not counting crew) head out with the first favorable wind. Your orders read to relieve and send home the legion that was posted their some 8 years ago with many settlers and merchants.
After a weeks sail you reach the settled island and have an unpleasant shock. Not only is their no signal from the shore, but once you sail into the bay you soon receive an unpleasant shock. The settlement has long been destroyed. Buildings are burnt out if no completely destroyed. Two ship wrecks lay at the now collapsed dock. Their are skeletons lay in the streets that wild dogs now roam.
A cry comes for the sailor in the crows nest and he points to the shore. Soon all are at the railing to see on the shore besided the old settlement are hundreds of naked Gauls both men and women. Male warriors weilding spears and axes and screaming and howling. Female druids chant and moan...
An old centurian holding his battle axe steps from the rail and downs half a jug of wine. Ancus looks at you with a hard steely look. "My this looks pleasant does it not? Your father wishes us to thrive here does he not?"
The leader of the Amazons looks at you with her piercing blue eyes that stand out even with her blue face paint. She is customarly walks about in only boots, loin cloth, and bare breasted with quiver and bow on her back.
Flavia sighs looking at you, "from hitting the shore we will be fighting. It the young noble up to the challenge of the day? Ready to die for ideals and your gods?"
OOC:
Your staff seems to lack confidence in the current situation.....
Your Assests:
One Infantry legion of 2,000 legionaries (heavy infantry armed with two javalins, short swords, sheilds, banded armor) and 300 peasant militia (leather armor, round shields, spears and short swords or wood axes) and 100 Amazon mercenaries (brutal female fighters hide armor, bows, sheilds, long swords, clubs and javalins.)
Each cohort is a hundred men (feel free to reconfigurer) led by a captain with a horse and standard bearer.
Each ship has a crew of some 60 norse crewmen with questionable loyalty to Rome.
So as commander of this little operation what is your first move? Please refer back to the OOC section how orders are done. Any questions don't fail to ask.....
Tyrus spat over the side of the ship at the sight. Cursed Gauls, daring to sack a Roman garrison and slaughter Roman citizens! This must not be allowed to stand!
"I am always ready to die for the idea of the Republic." He said, matching Flavia's gaze. "Centurions, to me!"
There was a bit of commotion, as many of the centurions had to be brought aboard Tyrus's command ship, but he had time, and he had a plan. At the officers assembled, he ordered the ships to pull out farther from shore. The Gauls would undoubtedly see their retreat and likely celibrate. Flavia was also invited to the planning meeting, but the captain of the Norsemen was not.
Attack
"Here is my plan. The fleet will remain here, on the horizon and just in sight of the shore. Come nightfall. six gallies shall remain, sailing fack and forth with torches along the sides. Occasionally, the torches will be extinguished and after a bit of time, relit to cause the impression that many ships are here. All other gallies shall sail further along the island, until we may safely land behind the Gauls under the cover of darkness and stealth. 1600 of the Legionares, Flavia and her Amazons and 50 Norsemen, two from each ship shall accompany me to shore."
"The remaining Legonares and the militia, shall remain with the decoy ships. The main force shall land, reform and march under cover of darkness and attack the Gaul army from the rear by dawn. Flavia, you and your forces are swiftest, therefore, you shall be our scouts to lead us to their camp, that we might strike swiftly against their weakest points and rain arrows upon those trying to lead."
"Once the battle is joined and the Gauls move away frome the shore to fight us, the decoy force shall land on the shore and attack from the beach. We shall grind these butchers between us and the sea and reclaim all they have stolen from Rome!"
Flavia acts much as you expect she would considering many think her veins are filled with ice. She nods and is at your meeting listening attentively like the rest of your people. The Norse captain is angered but follows oders.
Draga the 'admiral' of the Norse fleet comments to you after the meeting, "all is well in good to not let me know where we sail but it would be wise so I can plot the right coarse."
Attack
As per plan your ships sail off into the darkness. The Gauls scream their warcries, chant and even laugh as you leave but they slowly head back inland leaving some to watch. You can see their watch fires dot the lengths of the shoreline.
Troops are moved around and crews changed so that your men be positioned for the landing. The Norse will mostly row the landing craft if not the first to land. A mix of war painted Amazons and Viking warriors are the first to make land fall after you sail around the island. You find no cove for your ships but a long stretch sandy beach.
The landings begin and your disiplane troops execute the landing well. Your troops essemble in formation in a clearing while the Amazons scout ahead. A detail of Norse and Roman troops guard the boats totally 100 men. This will provide some means of escape.
You still have a few remaining hours of darkness left when the scouts return and give their report Latin to you and the other officers.
Alcibie a scout of the Amazon's proudly tosses a Gaul's head infront of you as she begins her report.
"A small village with man tents around it sits between us and the old Garrison town. I call for perhaps 3000 warriors among them with many women and children."
Looks of anger and glances of fear cross the faces of your staff as she continues.
"They watch the coast so surely ones the Army lands with Christophorus (a cousin of yours) in command at the town they will wake the camp rally and move to meet him....logic would dicate. "
Alcinoe the second in command pipes in, "we saw several sites of ritual made for blessing of weapons for battle. They were setup in advance my Lord. We were expected."
Ancus the old battle scarred Centurian look to you, " we move swiftly and the plan shall work. If we rest the men they will surely be found before dawn." He looks down at the head.
"There will be other patrols and other will miss them even if we find them first."
Ammonianus a knight and trusted officer looks at you, "my friend we must have revenge even if the Republic has abandon us on this day. We do not have enough rations to sail back and make war."
You have much to think on......
OOC still hope to see some more turns from other......everybody is doing impressive things. As ususal I am open to suggestions. Also been thinking about starting a fantasy strategy game........what do you all think? Well I look forward to more turns in the in box soon.
Olaf speaks to the men in his trusted council. "I have chosen many men before, sometimes for fighting, sometimes for hunting, somtimes for travel and adventure, and even sometimes for sport. But never have I chosen men to recieve a priveledge such as this; to live in our newly completed warlodge. I am here for one, to tell you all whom I have chosen.
"Lars. You have served me well this past year, but I havent been able to pay you back nearly enough for the spirit you have shown for the good of the village. You my friend, and your family will be the first to move in. " Many nod in agreement.
"Eric, my good friend, you will have quarters here, and since you will be one of the single men here and as these halls are primarily provided for the comfort of those with families, you will also be the keeper of the lodge. She's your responsibility." Eric, nods in acknowledgement, accepting this honour.
"Riggs, you and your wife are to move in as well. You my large friend have earned it. Besides, we all know that Riggs sleeps wherever he wants anyway!" The assembly of men laugh but none so loud as Riggs himself.
"Thor, you have proved yourself loyal to our people and we welcome you with open arms. Please, stay here in this lodge..." Thor opens his mouth to object but Olaf butts in giving him no chance to "I personally would consider it an honour for you to reside here" Thor, thinking this over in his head for a second replies, "I accept"
"Thank you my friend."
"This will do for now my friends. As time goes on, I will give others the honour and privledge to reside in this wonderful monument to our peoples abilities." Changing his tone slightly to show that he was moving to another subject, Olaf continues;
"Work is to begin on a temple. It is to be constructed near the centre of the village. When this project is completed, I am going to call for another meeting of the village leaders." At hearing this, there is a murmur among those gathered. Olaf continues, "The other village leaders and their retinue will come here so we must be able to feed, house and provide adequate facilities for them."
"Where will they stay?" enquires Eric. Olaf holds up his hand for silence, "There is still room in the warlodge for those who will arrive, plus the houses that will be unoccupied by those who will have moved into the lodge, however, we will need to prepare now for them. I want those who are to move into the lodge, to do so as quickly as possible and don't forget Eric, the building is your responsibility so I expect you to make it as prepared as possible. That means food, drink, bedding, washing facilities, floor coverings in the bedrooms, whatever you feel is necessary and apporpriate for this occasion. Actually, I believe there was a bear killed by some of the villagers. That hide would be perfect in front of the fireplace in the main hall of the lodge. Find out who has it and offer them due compensation for it."
Turning to Lars Olaf says, " Lars, I would ask you to look after the security aspect of the others when they arrive. We will be holding the meeting here in the town hall so we must be prepared to assure their safety during this meeting."
After Lars' nods to him in acceptance of this task, Olaf turns back to those assembled. "Are there any further questions?"
Thor, always the bold one, is the first to break the silence, "The other leaders were expressing thoughts that all the villages should be united under one king. We, all here, discussed it and we think it should be you."
All assembled nodded in agreement. A silence covers the room as Olaf looks at the expectant faces of those around him. "We shall see my friends, we shall see."
Harvest
Word quickly spreads of the temple building and of the arrival of the others. The harvest work is sped up to ensure enough food is on hand for the visitors. Marla and Astrid have seen to it that work on another farm is begun with the field cleared and the animals to work the farm being housed. A small farm house is built in two weeks by a group of the women. Marla and Astrid put the suggestion to Olaf that the captives should be put to work there, to tend to the farm themselves. That whatever they grow there can be theirs. Olaf is skeptical but at his wife's assurance that they will still be guarded, he relents. This arrangement eases the burden of providing for the captives. The captives take to their new work eagerly, soon having the field plowed and sown with vegetables and grain.
Training
The welshmen who manufacture the longbows are seen trying to convince the older warriors that their bow is a necessary weapon to have if they are to be able to fight off enemies and lessen the bloodshed on their own side. The young men in the village have taken enthusiastically to the throwing axes, their skill improving day by day.
Building
Work is started on the temple.
Further discussion is had over the need for another, possibly several new long boats.
Tyrus fixed Ammonianus with a hard, disapproving glare.
"Men may abandon the Republic, but the Republic will not abandon those who believe. Remember that Centurion, and have faith."
He looked at the faces of those around him. "Why do you look so worried?" Tyrus asked as he moved about, rallying his men. "Are you to be defeated without even showing the enemy your shields? Does a naked, squealing Gaul frighten you that the slaughter of your countrymen means nothing? Do their heathen magics worry you that you would take to the sea and never return? I say this is not so! Where is the courage, the discipline, the strength that made Rome the greatest Republic in the world? Men of Rome," and Arilias turned again to Ammonianus. "Hardened warriors," and then to Draga. "Noble allies." and finally to Flavia. "I shall fight for the Republic! I shall fight for Rome! Who has the courage to come with me?"
The Trimivate looked about and saw the lifting of heads, the tightening of hands on sword hilts and the steel return to the eyes of his Legionares. His speech had stirred the hearts of his men, and with it, their morale.
Attack
"All Centurions shall dismount and march to battle along side their Cohorts. Select the best horsemen you have among your men. These shall become my scouts. Their role is not to engage in battle, but to keep sharp eyes about us." (16)
His officers rallied around him as the plan was revised to accomidate the new information.
"We are committed to battle or else we flee and never return. By dawn we shall loose our advantage so we shall attack as planned. Given the numbers, we shall take 900 of the Norsemen from the ships, leaving them with a mere skeleton crew and add them to the 50 already tasked with us. Draga, I have heard of the legendary fierceness of the Norsemen and their lethality with the crossbow. Come now Chieftan, fight with us and impress even the Romans."(950)
"Flavia, you and your Amazons shall move through the darkness ahead of the Legion. I ask that you seize, capture and hold these ritual sites with all the stealth you can muster. Their shamans will likely be sleeping there, I wish them never to awaken and see the coming battle. If possible, unravel their heretical magics and blessings. Also, you Flavia have the greatest reputation as a markswoman. Slay their Chieftan at first glance."
"With the fools watching the coast and my cousin's decoy fleet, We have achieved both suprise and initiative. We shall march around the Celtic camp as much as possible and attack the Gaul camp from the rear while they sleep. Naked, tribal Gauls will have difficulty stopping armored Legionares in formation, even if they have greater numbers. It is my plan, that by striking them hard and decisivly at their camp and by smashing their leaders and spiritual centers in the first blow, we can break their will to fight. The Celts may not even be able to respond or be willing to engage if the Gauls are on the run."
"My cousin and the remaining fleet will land directly on the beach and renforce the Legion. Then we can deal with the Celts should they still choose to fight. Ammonianus shall command the right flank, Ancus, the left flank. I shall command the center. Draga, you and your Norsemen shall dress off the left to ack as skirmishers and to protect our left flank. If the Celts attempt to rally, harass, snipe and delay them until we have time to deal properly with the Gauls. Drive a wedge between them and do not let them organize. The sea shall protect our right flank. Each of us shall have four mounted scouts at our direction."
"As we near the camp, we shall march as silently as the death we shall deal, until the command to attack is given, then, no mercy. "
"Let us march. Jupiter be with us and grant us victory."
Begin preparations for Fortified Farms and Warlodge, winter comes soon and it would be good for at least the Warlodge to be finished before than. Upgrade housing for locals as best as possible, using wood and stone rather than reeds. Somehow Masonry needs to be discovered.
Explore
Once again send out groups of five on a quest of discovery. They are too seek out new places and the like. Peacefulness and prosperity is our plan.
