Hi Out there. I consider myself to be pretty computer savvy but i have run into something that i cant get rid of. when I go to some sites, I am re-routed to these violent rape web pages. Im not making judgments, they are just not for me. any tricks as to keep this from happening in the future? also, those damn dialer windows that keep popping up have to go too. any ideas?

A popup blocker should take care of both of those. I use a freeware one that you can download from Panicware.com

After you get the pop up blocker, go find Adaware or Spybot and run in on your puter.

You might have something on your machine that needs to be removed. Those dialers can get nasty.

Or you could run Netscape Navigator, which has an option you can set to block all popups, thereby avoiding the need for an additional piece of software. :D

What is a dialer?

I got Norton Internet Security and have eliminated MOST popups. But i havne't heard of "dialers"

hey,

i was getting the same popups from all sorts of different sites that i didn't think would be connected to the ads...turned out i had spyware on my comp. lit hooked me up with a seek and destroy thing for the damned spyware, and i've never been happier. you could try that, too.

Are you running from a LAN? If so, you need to go to I.E. Internet Options, Connections, and check "Never Dial A Connection." Also, in Dial-Up Networking, go to (in XP), Start, Connect To.., Show All Connections, Advanced, Dial-Up Preferences, and Uncheck "Autodial By Location" for the connection name you are using. Also, check "Disable Autodial While I am Logged In."
