Professor Ben Marks was heading to campus to do some work. Ben was an English professor, specializing in creative writing. One of his responsibilities included mentoring undergrads, most of whom adored him. Ben was supportive and caring, but almost equally well known for his handsome good looks. He was tall with sandy blond hair and bore a slight resemblance to Owen Wilson.
Ben looked up at the sky through the dashboard of his silver Lexus as he came to a halt at a red light. It looked ready to pour cats and dogs. Fortunately he had his umbrella with him, although it was small and two of the appendages were broken. Looks like I'm going to be dodging rain drops, he thought to himself.
He continued on several more blocks, coming to a stop at another light. He glanced over at the street car stop and spotted a lone girl in a pink sun dress getting absolutely drenched by the steady downpour that was now falling from the sky. He frowned, feeling bad for the girl. She didn't have an umbrella and there was no shelter at the street car stop. The poor girl seemed to be standing there frozen, almost staring up at the sky.
Ben squinted, trying to make out her face. Was that Lucy, one of his mentees? Opening his window half way, he called to her. "Lucy? Hey, Lucy! It's Ben! I mean, Professor Marks. Do you need a ride someplace?"
