warren v sanders conflict

If Bernie Sanders said the United States is not ready for a woman president, he is right. The irrational hatred directed at Hillary Clinton demonstrates that he is right. The irrational hatred directed at Barack Obama demonstrates that the United States is not ready for a black president either.

Acknowledging these facts does not mean that one approves of them.

When you just take voters into account, Hillary Clinton won the last presidential election, so a majority of voters in the United States in 2016 believed a woman was ready to be president and that question has already been answered.

I agree with your last line, but I don't believe the treatment HRC and Obama got means the USA isn't ready for a female or black president. It just means there's still a lot of racism and sexism out there that we still need to come to terms with. But Obama won twice and Clinton surely would have won if not for Comey, the Russians and a lousy campaign on her part.

I also think she'd have encouraged even more women to vote for her if she'd have kicked her lying, cheating (we assume she didn't know but, then again, perhaps she did and didn't mid or even encouraged it) impeached husband to the kerb and done it in her own name as an independently strong woman secure in her own rights to be treated respectfully by men. The fact she stuck by him, tried to brush his infidelities under the carpet while questioning the testimony of various women? Left a sour taste in some women's mouths, I'm sure.

Personally, I'd have voted for whoever I felt best for the job but I can appreciate how she turned a sizeable number of women voters against her, and that may have been a contributing hurt to her election-chances.
