How did you know it was 'your thing'

I am a cam Virgin and not 100% sure if I want that status to change at the moment even though I have a 'date' lined up for later in the week.

I am very curious but very wary also

Any advice, any do' and don'ts I should be aware off

no pm's either please, just after some advice

DO only show what you are 100% comfortable showing. It's your show, so don't let your viewer(s) try to pressure you for more than you're totally comfortable giving.

DON'T put anything out there that you're not happy having out there forever, plastered all over the internet, or otherwise shared. Whomever is viewing your cam can easily record the video feed or take still shots, then do whatever they wish with those images of you (even use them for financial gain), so keep that in mind whenever you're revealing yourself. If you enjoy camming and don't mind putting yourself out there for all to see, you may want to consider getting paid for it, rather than giving it away for free.

Don't show anything on cam that you don't want plastered all over the internet, particularly your face. Just because someone sounds really nice in a chat room or through IMs, doesn't mean they are trustworthy.

If you do decide to go the pay-to-play route ( other than the obvious, of doing some research on the sites to find out which ones have the best traffic, honest, competent management, etc. ) the most important thing is that you enjoy it first, and the money is just icing.

Once you get to a point where you depend on that money ( even to spoil yourself ) a few bad days can put you in a funk, which will have an adverse effect on your on-cam performance, which is a major snowball effect that's very hard to pull out of.

absolutely no money changing hands

Webcamming is now added to my thanks but no thanks list (and its a very short list of 1 thing)

Some very valid points to think about

thank you, thank you, thank you

Great decision. :D

then do whatever they wish with those images of you (even use them for financial gain)

factual, not juristic.

It's just the problem that in the online world you often don't have enough information about the asshole to sue his ass into oblivion.

That's something I won't do as well. If I send any nude pics it is without my face it protect myself in the future, cam fun just sounds too dangerous for me too...

I should also note, the above comment doesn't mean I'm sending free nude pics to everyone who asks. LOL. I'm filthy dirty, but I still am reserved most of the time with that stuff.

Some girls do it because they love showing off their beautiful bodies and arousing people (significant others or strangers) and feeling admired and sexy from the comfort and safety of their own room.

You can always wear a mask to hide your identity if you still want to express yourself like that.

Webcams are fun, but I have a thing for voices. You can just talk instead of provide a visual and your identity will be protected.

Suing them into oblivion isn't really that difficult, assuming they're in the same country (and it's a country where such things are illegal). The site will be perfectly happy to turn over the person's IP information to a lawyer. Even if they used a proxy server, the lawyer should easily be able to get information from them, as well. It would be a huge hassle to go through legal proceedings, though. It would also, be admission to the world that it's 100% you in the pictures/video.

Geez, how did a question about having some mutually pleasurable fun turn into sueing them into oblivian?

How about this?

Don't show your face.
Have some fun.
You might enjoy it.

I also prefer voice chat during cam play. It keeps our hands free.

I just don't like the attitude that it's firstmost the responsibility of the victim to not become one, while the perpetrator gets pampered at the same time.

Don't want to get murdered? Wear a bullet-proof vest.
Don't want to get raped? Wear jeans, not skirts.
Don't want to see your face on the internet? Wear a mask.

Actually, what irks me more is the self-fulfilling prophecy behind it:
People saying that you can do whatever you want on the internet -> people doing whatever they want on the internet.

I didn't think of the lawsuit angle. I only said that viewers can do whatever they wish with the images sent/posted/broadcast, so the creators of such images should take that into account if it's a concern for them.

And frankly, I don't want any images of me used without my permission. I don't care if they include my face or not - I'd feel just as violated if I found out pics or video of myself were shared with people I didn't specifically share them with, posted on other sites and/or used for someone's financial gain. Similarly, I'd be upset if someone shared our private emails, calls or chats, even if nothing in that material could be traced back to me.

With a few exceptions, I believe people have every right to expect their private communications and materials to remain private. Unfortunately, there are a bunch of unscrupulous people who are happy to violate others' privacy, so those considering sharing do need to take how their private stuff may be used into account prior to putting it out there.

I agree with you.
I just thought things in the thread got pretty out of hand pretty fast.

Wearing a mask will allow you the freedom to enjoy camming without having to worry about whether your face is showing at any given moment/in the midst of any activity. It's also a good idea to cover up any easily identifiable marks.

It's like crossing the street, you just have to look both ways first before proceeding.

Is there any documented cases of anyone ever having record their Skype conversation without their knowledge and permission.Skype is encrypted I know that.

That's not what I was referring to. What I was talking about was the intended recipient(s) of the conversation and images/video saving or capturing those (there's software for capturing webcam videos), then sharing them with other people. For instance, let's say you and your gf have a cyber and cam session. You decide to save the transcript of the chat and record the video of her for future use. Then you choose to share that transcript and video with a buddy or three of yours, and maybe they post it online for all to see, or perhaps you just decide to post your gf's words and images for whatever reason.

That kind of thing can--and does--happen. We've had threads about it from ladies who have been violated in that way here, as well as a host of idiotic boyfriends and husbands considering sharing their partners' images (e.g. posting them on AmPics) without their express consent. Those with the right tools could probably hack into Skype or whatever, but I'd be more concerned about the behavior of intended recipients than that of strangers.
