Maybe too much too soon? I have a sibling who does this almost every year, but they have a good excuse.
I always start any new activity by going low and slow with rest days in between.
in my younger days, I got to go swimming after a 8 month absent, I jumped in and swam 1/2 mile and then followed it up with hand stand and a front flip. I got a calf muscle cramp so bad that it tore my muscle!
