What are the Demographics of Lit?

There is a celebrity/fan fiction category. Don't ask others what to write, just write what you want.
Yes But again its a very under-viewed category. My argument when I was speaking to people was that I wanted to go to sci/fi/fantasy instead so I didn’t lose audience but folks said it would t be possible. I sought some clarification but never got a response from Laurel.

id also argue that Lit rules are prohibitive of fanfiction as well. I think in story idea discussion I was poking at possibly doing a Pokemon story and it was met with some pushback because people recommended I make my own original setting instead or said that I would HAVE to post it in fanfiction (a very under viewed category).
Lit does not encourage fan fiction, maybe because of the potential liabilities. Just the same, the category is there to use, it's just not well-read.

When a category has little traffic, you have to suspect that there isn't much reader interest in it. In the case of fan fiction, the celebrity being used or abused could be anyone, and only a small part of the potential readers are going to be interested in erotic fiction about any one celebrity. I suspect most fan fiction is there to get the writer off, not the reader.

Hardly anyone views fanfic on Lit. If I wrote (more) fanfic, I'd only consider posting it here if it was some really popular fandom. Other sites specifically for fanfic would make much more sense.

I could care less about any celeberty. Hence my point, just using a setting pigeon holes me into a category I don't want to be with works of writing that to your point are not popular.

Yeah this is pretty much where I am at. Also, the general lack of fanfiction on lit or stories that associate with movies/videogames younger people would identify with also strikes me as odd. I know its may be more of a site thing but I think there is also a general lack of enthusiasm.
PJ clearly doesn't read from my catalogue. I proudly write fanfic however I don't use the Fan Fic category, my fan fic is clearly marked with the original author and source material. My Gate fan fic was based on Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (Gate - Thus the JSDF Fought There!) was great fun to write, 3 stories, 84k words, series score is 4.79. I just finished Enchantress based on Tarry Pratchett's series, 51K words, holding at 5 for a score. I just posted Enchantress 2, 63K words and am planning Enchantress 3 for autumn or winter release.

I love fan fic, but I do want to stay away from it because it sucks me in and like with Enchantress I can't get back out until the plot bunnies let me go. I'm looking at publishing and I hear that publishing fan fic is a legal nightmare - so why should I put all my effort into something I can't put out on Smashwords and maybe make a few bucks later?

I have a series of demandments that I follow when I write, demandment #1 is Thou shalt write what thou knowest. I don't play a lot of video games because so many are pretty lame and basing a story on a video game doesn't work for me (yet). I don't watch a lot of movies, Movies have to be pretty good and not preachy crap to get me to spend too much money to sit in an empty theater to watch them which means there's not a lot I'll watch. The new D&D movie with Chris Pine was good however but it's been a while since I saw anything that I'd want to write about, and I started writing by writing fan fiction mostly Farscape, there's just so little out there being produced that is worth watching, let alone writing about.

I LOVE GATE, I’ll have to give that a read :) but good to know you’ve had success with that!

Why do you seem to think one must either have sex or read about sex? Why not both? Hell, why not both at once?
True story: I once had a girlfriend, and we would have sex in cowgirl position, and she wanted me to read sex stories to her while having sex. Kind of hard to read with the bed bouncing around, but it really turned her on, so who am I to argue?

We gotta do what we gotta do, my man.

I am in my 70's, and have always been attracted to the written word, starting when I found a softcover of the novel "The Story of O" down by the railroad tracks as a 14 year old. Even during the Playboy, Penthouse, and Hustler days, I craved the stories, the written word, over pictures, no matter how explicit.

After decades of living many lifestyles, with great memories. I still prefer the written word.
Funny, I found my first porn by the tracks too. Those railroad drivers...

Mine was hardcore about hippies becoming a foursome. It was far better written than today's standards.
