What are we all writing right now?

I've been blocked for a little while. Or, more accurately, struggling to finish pieces - I've got four with starts made, one with 12,000 words written, but despite having the plot planned, I've been finding it hard to keep going on any of them. I was worried I might be done ahead of time.

So I was pretty pleased when I woke up early this morning and, lying in bed before the alarm went off, formed a single scene story in my head. I had 1200 words written before I had to leave for work at 8am; wrote the rest this evening. I think it's the first time I've ever managed a complete draft in one day. I mean, it's only 3,200 words, so nothing that impressive, but I'm still really chuffed.

(It's - surprise, surprise - a lesbian romance. But it's told from the point of view of a friend who witnesses the moment friendship becomes something else, so it's a little different for me.)

1. I'm about a third of the way through a Pink Orchid offering, a thirty-five year old editor yearning to finish off the summer (alongside her birthday) with a spirited bacchanal.

2. Not one but three 750-word atrocities (and I swore I would never do any more of these - except that @StillStunned forced me into them with his bizarre writing prompts.) But shoehorning an abbreviated tale into exactly 750 words. while making it sexual and interesting, ends up being a bracing challenge that I do not seem to be able to resist.

What prompts?

I wrote something in the order of 140k words over five stories in the first half of this year. Then I had Covid. I’m not saying there’s a causal link but I feel a little burnt out right now. I’ve hardly written a word in six weeks but I think some green shoots are stirring at last. Maybe get something out by Christmas

My most recent story, Personal Chef, was finally published, so now I'm trying to quickly finish a relatively short incest story before trying to get my winter holiday story done and submitted before the deadline. It's been a slow year for me but I want to end it with a bang.

My latest efforts are with a story about a loving, long-married, faithful couple, with the wife debating with herself after a discussion with girlfriends about extra-marital sex. It's a second marriage for both her and her husband, which is intended to decrease angst over a "one and only" monogamous couple. When she broaches the subject with her husband, he brings up his past bad experiences when inadvertently hooking up with a married/cheating woman, and his main concern is "Never do that to me. If you feel the need for a fling, tell me first and just do it!" So, they turn it into a game to discover they can't find anyone better than their spouse, removing all doubts.

It's currently at 7.5k words, building to over 10K, and aimed at the Loving Wives crowd (of course).

Now 1,900 words into the sequel? Could it be two in two days?

You can check with Mr. Provocateur himself for the origin of his 'Writing Exercises' (I'm too lazy to research) but here's one, No. 6. Lots of fun, engaging, and gets the writing juices flowing.
Mr Provocateur, is that me? Are those photos of me in my underwear doing the rounds again?

As if to contradict myself of nine hours ago. I woke up with a complete scene in my head and have just written a thousand words! How does this happen? 😂
And I have read and written 0 of what I'm meant to be doing. Instead I made a shit ton of homemade caramel and some caramel stuffed triple chocolate chip cookies, which I then mailed to a friend from Lit for Thanksgiving for his kids, lol.

I was going to finish my story tonight, but instead I watched Deadpool & Wolverine. Not sure I made the right choice.

Sounds like a fun choice at least. I've had the scent of caramel stuck in my nose for the past 15 hours. It's not going away, lol. It's also making it difficult to sleep.

1 story (5th chapter in NC/R) and 1 poem submitted for publishing, 1 series submitted to envelope the last story I published. Now I'm going to try working on the second perspective for the series in LW.

I just finished a story that was harder to write than I thought. Trauma and love, scars and healing. It ran away from me a bit, and took up a lot of headspace, so everything else got put aside for a while.
- I've got an idea for a Christmas themed slow burn small town lesbian romance. But as it feels like it needs 15k+ words to do it justice there's no way I can finish it before the Holiday Contest deadline. I might do a passion Christmas quicky instead just to throw my hat in. There's this girl working at a bar at this fancy hotel on Christmas Eve, and takes interest in a lonely guest. A bit of a jolly Christmas romp.
- The only draft I've started right now is another slow burn about a down on her luck photographer based in Soho who gets an interesting assignment.

I’m freshly liberated from a long, arduous editing and revision phase. Now just waiting for the thing to publish. What a load off.

I’m stoked. The piece feels great. There’s always a satisfying feeling to sharing something polished, but especially when it’s something I know in my gut is going to delight the reader.
