What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

One of the more underrated comedy albums of all time.

Peak Patton. Remy is straight SLAYING.

Travelin' Band: Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall

The full vid is on Netflix, which also includes 36 minutes of intro narrated by Jeff Bridges. A 15-minute standing ovation afterward? I can see that ... they were the best band in the world during their too-brief time together, even outselling The Beatles. Five timeless top 10 albums (including two #1s) and seven top 5 singles in two calendar years?

The Big Star documentary: Nothing Can Hurt Me

I first learned of them from The Replacements and their song Alex Chilton. So then I went to go see Alex Chilton. Yes, he played Volare. He also played a bunch of other stuff that I didn't recognize, some of which sounded familiar.

I'm sure September Gurls was one of those things; I would've known it from the Bangles' cover. It was an unexpectedly good show, for someone who at the time knew hardly any of his material. Chris Stamey and the dB's opened.

Years later, I saw the touring show of Big Star's Third, by which time I knew a lot more of their story. It was one of the most beautiful shows I've ever seen. Many of the people who appear in this documentary performed, though not Michael Stipe or John Doe, alas.

I'm in a bit of a masochistic mood - building a delicate model kit using high-intensity lights and a x8 magnifying glass. Listening to Scandroid to ease the strain.
