More Hellfest: Bruce Dickinson without Iron Maiden

How old is he again? This gig was an utter TRIUMPH considering the biblical downpour they're playing in.

This is why some old music just sounds so much better - even in the genres we don't like:
(though in this case, it's comparing a song almost everyone loves by a singer nearly a century ago, and a singer just this year.)

To my ears, the modern version is technically perfect - and so feels lifeless. Its in the flaws of the original natural voice that I hear the human soul. And thus Judy's voice almost brings me to tears everytime I hear her sing, and usually when I hear a modern version of this song I change the channel or click out of the video.

(A month ago I was noticing the same thing when hearing some old heavy metal by Dio - his imperfect voice makes it human. And you'll get the same thing hearing Rap from the 80s vs Hip Hop today.)

Music for Relaxation

The Healing Component

I love all The Healing Component's work; very relaxing. He has over 200 tracks ranging from a couple minutes to almost thirty minutes all available on Bandcamp.

I enjoy his recent solo album, the Mandrake Project.
No question, Brucie has some absolute BANGERS in his solo discography. I love both Accident Of Birth and The Chemical Wedding to bits. He basically showed Iron Maiden how to be Iron Maiden better than Iron Maiden. :)

Also, MORE HELLFEST! This time: Cradle Of Filth (probably not for you, litfan10 - ghastly screeches abound)

The usual mix of Goth pomp overkill and punk rock attitute. Fuck up half a song? WHO FUCKING CARES? After I got to grips with Dani Filth's particular brand of vocal masochism by the time they released Vempire (Dark Fairy Tales in Phallustein), I've enjoyed most of their output. I mean, thanks to my obsession with King Diamond I'm already a sucker for cineastic music. Add in a copious helping of weird sex and some absolutely amazing lyrics and I'm sold. The only record I've not warmed up to is "Darkly, Darkly Venus Aversa". It's not the fact that it is almost completely breakneck blastbeats, but the fact it's ...boring. To me, CoF are always at their best when they mix things up - here half a song of crusty D-beats, then orchestral flourishes, moaning succubi, then a guitar solo Iron Maiden would die for and then some more brimstone and hellfire. That's a good time. 62 minutes of non-stop high velocity murder? That has to be some good high velocity murder. Even Slayer in their absolute heyday only managed to keep that shit interesting for half an hour. :)

Cradle of Filth using ghastly screeches........ Say it isn't so!

Live at Carnegie Hall

Renaissance

Sigh....that voice....that bass... IMHO this and Yessongs are the two best live albums of all time, no offense to Peter Frampton.

Calm Your Mind with Bells and Chimes

The Healing Component

Bad day for me pain wise so relaxing music is a must. Peace, love and happiness everyone.

Shania Yan with her second original song. Love it. Waaaay good. Reminds me a bit of early Avril Lavigne - great lyrics, great tune, lots of energy and fun with it.

Barstool Prophet

Christina

Lead singer of Magenta on a wonderful recent solo album

We Ascend

The Radicant

New music from the former frontman of Anathema, Vincent Cavanagh

My favorite song right now:
- This is about how she's always falling for the wrong kind of man. I think many of us can relate. ;)

And of course, picking the wrong man leads to a troubled heart and eventually ya gotta toss em out:
;)
