Lily was a bit surprised as the woman began talking about her life. She gave far more details that Lily expected. It made her smile. She was willing to bet it had been a while since Becky had really had anyone to talk to. She understood. She couldn't remember the last 'conversation' she had. Oh there were yells, threats and the like but actual talking?
She was a little shocked but only a little to find out that Becky grew up on a compound, the sort that made one wary. Doomsday preachers, survivalists and conspiracy nuts...Lily pictured a stockpile of guns, young girls and old men. She frowned a little and chastised herself for thinking that way. Becky was talking so lovingly about the man she called Pop Pop. Lily didn't get the weird squirmy pit of the gut bad vibe from the way the woman talked.
"No, no, not boring at all. It is interesting to see how different people survived you know?"
Lily smiled though she wasn't sure Becky could see it clearly. The fire was casting just enough light that Lily could see Becky's face. She watched her eyes lower and then rise again.
"Nervous? Why?" Lily whispered. Her heart sped up a little and she wiggled a little, suddenly feeling unsure. "You can talk to me about anything you want. It has been a long time since I had someone to talk to." She reached out and adjusted the blanket, pulling it up on Becky's shoulder. Her fingers brushed the woman's arm.
