What did i do to my pc?

Normally my pc is connected to the internet through a router, but i need it for something else tonight. When i just run the ethernet cable straight from my modem to my pc i can't get online anymore. What am i doing wrong here? Is there some setting i need to change?

I take you mean you need the router for something else?

You probably need to change the network address of your computer and/or the network address it is looking for on the network, but i'm not sure where you need to look for the addresses you need.

Yeah i need the router elsewhere but someone else needs my pc to get online.

krak monkey: assuming you're using a broadband connection, i do not recommend surfing w/out your router. it provides great defense against various malware. surfing w/ a naked computer is pretty much the equivalent of getting down on hand and knee and begging for multiple viruses, spyware and other crap.
