What is a low story rating?

I haven't pulled "White Scut" because I think it is a valid story, as is my other low rated erotic horror "Donna".

Whether they are Literotica stories? No. They're not.

Leaving them posted is a reminder that I can get the intended audience wrong. Some actually appreciated "Donna" as horror but not the sort of horror they wanted.

Og

Have you tried getting them moved to a different category Oggie?
Maybe the wrong readership is the problem. I really must try to get my humourous piss take story moved to a more appropriate cat than the one it was placed in.

Votes, what do they do Phil? I didn't think it was election year over here. Never pull a story, fuck em all, if they don't like it, they can carry on not liking it.

But in most cases this really sells the story hard and fast and is a wicked pisser for feedback.

Oh, not to me. If I run across a bunch of grammatical errata I'll take a story down a point even if it's giving me a doughnut. It's a matter of principle. I figure that if I can tweak my stuff until I'm sure that every word is like I want it to be before I upload it for submission, so can other people.

I was gratified to find that my latest story had achieved an H rating but I don't angst over votes that much. I write what I have fun writing, that's all.

WH and Pops,

You both make me laugh deviously. I tend to agree with your philosiphy. I was more or less considering a revision of the story only due to the fact it seems to be a good story for many. Yet it seems to irritate many also.

When looking at the score for an answer I realized quickly 1,2 were not really valid for a low rating 3 seems to be among the scale as the low vote. And 4.7 seems to be the high vote.

I have made a mistake before thinking 4 was a poor vote. So I was really wondering what the others thought was low and high.

I could write a really horrible story "Dick ran fast. Jane saw dick run. Dick and Jane ran." But with my luck it would score 4.7 thus not telling me a thing as to what is good on the rating scale.

If I run across a bunch of grammatical errata I'll take a story down a point even if it's giving me a doughnut.
Slick,
Many of my stories have grammar errors and some are on purpose. "Seamen" LOL I will only do it once per word and not always the same word, I just love it! They can serve a great purpose.
One: people feel compelled to write because they can state the obvious.
Two: I get a big kick out of it.
Three: Sometimes it gives a story a real novice feel as if a newbie wrote it.
Four: I can easily search my stories that have been stolen by a stupid or uncommon word phrase. "The seamen filled her little boat." not to many porn stories have that sentence.
Five I can give special directions to Laurel when submitting a story to ignore my Joke!

Slick could you elaborate on giving me a doughnut? I don't eat doughnuts er maybe I do? That is a weird expression if I think it means what sick thought is going in my mind. Thank God you are a female if that is what I am thinking is true.

I wouldn't mind eating Slick's doughnut:devil: :D

I'd 'not' vote a story down on grammar or the odd spelling error if I was well into the tale and the story line was very good, things like perfect English don't worry me, the content and layout is what I vote on. Hell this is an 'amateur authors' erotic story posting site, not a bloody University examination board.

I might however send words of advice by way of feedback, and point out the minor errors.

Obviously if it's so badly written, no bugger's going to be able to get into it, but then nothing that badly written gets past the posting proof readers, so it should never get on here in the first place.

As for acceptable level of scoring, well anything over the half way point is worth accepting as a success of sorts, 3.50 to 4.50 is getting quite good to very good, over 4.50 consider publishing it.
This of course depends on the category, the red neck heaven erotic couplings/group/incest/loving wives, well they'll vote high on anything that gets their rocks on. I prefer to rely on the feedback rather than votes for any clue to my success, or otherwise, mainly the latter.

How do you manage to get Laurel to listen to you Phil, I tried when I posted my latest, but had to alter it before acceptance, then to make matters worse she put it in a totally inappropriate category when it was accepted, in spite of my requested category.

I think I can tell the difference between a grammar error made on purpose because it fits in with the character or the story, and one that's made from lack of proofing.

Pop_54, I believe you understand what I mean by a doughnut, but I'll 'splain it to Phil anyway--it's the feminine EQ of a hard-on.

I think I understand, Do you suppose you could show me? :D

Sorry I couldn't resist :rose: Thanks for the insight.

If you read the stories in the top lists, and you read author threads such as 'pet peeves' you will find that many if not most of the top rated stories include many if not all of the most offensive 'pet peeves' (excluding bad mechanics)

In fact, I purposly have put in those pet peeves at times, because here on lit, they are 'what sells'

Also, I find that in general, a peice that I think is over-written (ie, bad writing from my POV) will do quite well. My short short, 'The Stranger' has gotten some fantastic feedback, but doesn't have that coveted H, while some of my other peices do. I remain convinced that if I 'filled it out more' I would get better votes.

I also suspect that some people refuse to give me a higher vote, because I didn't capitalize certain sentance *fragments* For the pedantics, they probably think that it's a typo, but it's not;)

Oh well.

I've also been told that it's well written, and a good fantasy, but it's not really a *story.*

I posted a story that was not the usual for me, and it's lower than average . . . I blame it on, when fans are happy with your work, they get a bit disappointed when posting something out of your usual . . . such is life. Plus, well, I've read a story or two that are up there on the top list, and well, they seem not so great, and not well-edited . . . go figure. But that's just my humble opinion. I'm sure there are also some very worthy pieces that have been overlooked . . .

I think I said this on another thread? Jesus, repeating myself now :) Has it come to that.
