What's everyone up to this weekend? I got a lot of writing done and lots of advice on the forums so it was a productive weekend.

It got me thinking what everyone else got up to? I hope you all had a great weekend and those that were writing I hope you made progress with your stories!

Regards,
Al

My writing is slow at the moment, but I did make some progress. I feel like I've had a lot of stories get a ways in and then just sputter to a halt, and I'm hoping I can keep this one going.

I find that happens to me as well. Any ideas for how to keep going and getting through it? I am trying to be more consistent with my writing.

Went for a 15 mile bike ride today for a burrito.
How long did that take? 15 miles seems like a long journey for a burrito! I used to run a lot but I don't anymore so I cannot judge distances very well as of late.

I wrote about six pages, way better than most days for me. Tomorrow: paperwork. And lots of it.
Congratulations! Delighted for you! Is the paperwork for tomorrow in relation to your job or is it to do with your writing, if I can ask?

The ride itself didn't take too long. I did some sight seeing along the way. I was out of the house for about 6 hours all together.

Forming and maintaining habits helps, although it's not a guarantee that any individual story will work; it just helps keep me writing.

Sometimes a story needs to be set aside because the idea doesn't quite work, or it doesn't grab me. I don't think of an unfinished draft as a failure, even though it frustrates me to have several of them in a row.

I see in your profile picture you have the American flag, do you live in the United States if you don't mind me asking?

I am from Ireland 🇮🇪 nice to meet you, friend! I hope your not experiencing the heatwave that we have had over in Europe for the past few weeks! No air conditioning over here in the houses!

Tax stuff. Stuff for a nonprofit I volunteer for. Bills. Etc. Just stuff that needs doing.

I do live in the US

Good to meet you as well. I have Irish heritage in my family, but have not been yet.

It was 34 degrees on the ride today, but here it's always that warm this time of year. Everybody has their AC on.

We made a Costco run and spent waaaay too much money, but some of the stuff we picked up was for my elderly parents, who do not drive anymore.

I did get a lot of writing in today, around 3k words on one story and probably close to 1k on the other, my third story in the twins series. The twins story was supposed to be my next project, but the other one, about an amatuer boudoir photographer, popped into my head the other week and it is just clamoring to get out. It's been easy to write, so when I get stuck on the twins story I switch to the other.

Tomorrow my wife and I are going for a hike, then I'll do lunch with my parents and drop off their groceries.

I got a bunch of furniture and stuff moved in my house - we want to rotate the location of people in 3 of the 4 bedrooms upstairs. Right now its about halfway done. We got far enough that everyone has a place to go to bed, and we will finish up tomorrow.

And I got a bunch of writing done. My first completed fanfic, if I get it done.

Thanks for the advice! That makes sense to me, discipline helps with everything so why should writing be any different, I suppose!

Do you mind if I ask where you are from? I am just tying to get to know some of the forum members to make some friends!

I have always wanted to visit the US to be honest! I'd love to see the skyscrapers of New York, the forests of Georgia or the deserts of New Mexico!

In Ireland we consume so much American culture through films, TV shows, video games and literature that I really feel I know your country well!

That's super interesting! Do you know whereabouts in Ireland your ancestry is from? I wonder if your ancestors emigrated during the famine or if they were more recent immigrants to the States?

I hope you do visit someday, it is well worth a visit over here! You have the capital city, Dublin in the east of the country which has a lot of historical attractions and allows easy access to the UK / Europe. To the west you have the beautiful scenery of Galway and the Arann Isands. Moving south you have ancient cities such as Cork and Waterford that have Celtic, Viking and English influences on their development and history. Up north is the obvious Giants Causeway, but remember that Northern Ireland is a separate country to the Republic of Ireland 🇮🇪

Sorry for the rant, I just wanted to explain a little bit about Ireland for you in case you ever decided to visit.

P.S. we don't have AC in our houses over here as a general rule. Our larger corporate businesses would have AC for their employees, but the average house in Ireland wouldn't have access to AC.

I spent the last month with my window open at night and a standing fan blowing air straight onto me without any bed covers and it didn't seem to make much of a difference! We are just not used to this intense heat over here!

I'm also in the US, in the western half.

I also have ancestors who came to the US from Ireland, and I'd love to visit more someday. I had a layover in the Dublin airport once, but I understand that the country is much bigger than that.

Hi bumpercars, if you live in the western half, have you visited Hollywood? Always wondered what that would be like to visit?

Awesome! Please see my above post if you want some information about Ireland! Or feel free to ask me anything you want to know about the country, I would be only too happy to help! :)

My wife's family is from Ireland but unfortunately "he's from there" is the best we've got - her grandfather was adopted from Ireland as a young child. He had a twin brother but nobody knows where he went, and Grandpa died of Alzheimers quite a while back.

Sorry to hear that!

Hollywood is incredibly touristy. If you like studio tours and playing "Has anyone in my group ever heard of Nita Naldi or Milo Ventimiglia?" at the Walk of Fame it might be a fun place to visit. I didn't see any celebrities.

What am I doing? Nearly everything I can to keep from going outside. Heat Index values above 105°F will do that - the humidity is stifling. I may be reduced to shampooing the carpets for something to do other than writing.

That was my lot last Thursday. Had one of the big trolley carts filled to stuff falling off. Two 40# bags of dog food, two packs of paper towels, two packs of toilet paper, a 10-pack of Kleenex... and that was just the first three aisles. Yikes. By the time I was up front it all momentarily overwhelmed the cashier and her assistant, but they quickly pulled their acts together.

It's worth it if you're saving money in the long run, right? When I go get my TP from the bulk stores, they must all think I spend all my time crapping.
