I'm late 50s and last year had a FWB thing with a girl of 32 who chatted me up in a bar.
When I told her my age she just shrugged and said I don't look it, don't act it and she didn't care, so I'm not really sure if it was an older guy thing at all!

I gotta say I've been wanting to ask about this in here but wasn't sure how to approach it without sounding s4lf obsessed. 63yrs old, greybeard , not especially attractive, but i regularly interact with the staff in my local supermarket ( its the only human interaction I get, so go easy on me ) and I'm sure at least 3 of them are flirting with me. 2 in early 20s ( single ) , 1 mid 30s ( attached with kids ). Maybe I'm wrong and they're just friendly but I've been out ov action so long I've got no fuckin idea what to do if anything...

I'm with you there also. But if they've volunteered that they're single, that in itself seems like a pretty good indicator that they might be open to meeting outside work, in a safe environment. (I'd guess the one who said she's attached is assuming you'll take that as a No.)
 
One of the ones that’s now moved on actually complained to me often about being single , dropping thinly veiled comments about “ needs “ but the fear of being branded “ weird “ or whatever is mortifying.. so looks like I’m resigned to the fantasy!

Yes: You're a "nice-guy" to them. This behavior doesn't sound like they actually like you or want you.
 
I think there are younger women who are into older men in the same way there are younger men into older women. The possibility of sex with a partner where the age difference is significant -- let's say at least 20 years -- makes it a societal taboo and possibly erotic. I don't think there's a real mystery here. I was once infatuated with a high school Spanish teacher. I would have fucked her brains out if given a chance. There was a family friend older than my mother by about a year. I would have done the same if given the chance. And, in my 30s, there was a younger co-worker who seemed to make advances on me. She was hot. It was tempting, no doubt. But it didn't seem right. So I didn't do anything about it.

That said, I've been fortunate enough to make love to ladies older than me. Two were about 10 years older than me. One was 20 years older than me. They were great lovers. Truly wonderful. I'm grateful I didn't miss the experience.
 
I don’t think it has to be some big psychological thing.

Sometimes it’s just practical. Sometimes it’s just attraction.

Sometimes it’s just no-hangups.
