What Limits Do U.S. Laws Place On Pornography?

I'm just curious because I noticed that the pic forum seemed to be censored. I thought this was the internet, and it was free. I live in New Zealand and we don't have very strict censorship laws except for things like child pornography -- something I agree we shouldn't be looking for.

Can anyone tell me what the laws are like in the U.S. and why this impacts the picture forums? I thought since this is obviously an R18 site that nudity and sexual content would be acceptable. Do the laws limit pornography in general?

The posting guidelines for pictures are HERE. I believe the law is that hardcore content requires age verification, which Literotica doesn't do, therefore it can't have hardcore content.

Ah, OK. But I can into Redtube and Porntube fine without any particular authorisation. Are those sites hosted outside the U.S. or are they technically breaking the law?

when i open up porn sites, it asks me if i'm 18 or older. if you've already registered with those sites, it probably doesn't ask anymore, but if you log out first and log back in, you should be encountering that.

The law isn't about verifying the age of consumers, it's about verifying the age of performers/people featured in images. To show hardcore content in the U.S., the people doing the showing must keep extensive records that verify the ages of anyone who's featured in the content.

It's unrealistic for Lit to get a copy of every AmPics poster's drivers license and have them fill out a form certifying they're over 18, so Lit's solution is to ban all questionable content. By doing so and moderating the forums, Lit can say they're doing their due diligence to comply with the law.

I'm not sure where Redtube and the like are hosted, but I'm guessing it's not in the US. You could find that out by doing some searching.

The Redtube thing is irrelevant because the porn originates from other sites that do have the documentation.
