Thoughts on other authors using your character?

I received two emails about this virtual convention, of authors asking my permission to use my characters. With permission, the answer is almost always a yes. I didn't ask how my characters would be portrayed. I kind of look at it like fanfiction, I guess? And that's just a way of life in the indie and trad pubbed world. It's not so different here to me, personally, so I gave my blessing.
