What long ago band do you love

It might be a Jersey thing, but I've been listening to a lot of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. I'm also listening to the Marty Balin era Jefferson Starship.

*swoon* Marty Balin.

Then again, I suppose only being able to write with _Blows Against the Empire_ or something similar on my headphones does kinda bias me. Though I will condescend to accept _Modern Times_ in an emergency.

(And I don't exactly complain about my coworker bringing in everything from Duran Duran all the way back to Ella on weekends when it's just the two of us on shift...)

Maybe it's been done, maybe not, but I've always loved the Beatles. Oh yeah, the Monkeys too. Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, The Rat Pack. Smooth as Butter.

Fuck you all! I love Neill Diamond's music!

Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Love that Western swing.

I love lots of old stuff - Peggy Lee, Tom Waits, The Sex Pistols, Howlin' Wolf, Blondie, Captain Beefheart, Billy Holliday, The Stones, The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, The Beach Boys (but only the deranged Brian Wilson stuff like on 'Pet Sounds' or 'Surf's Up'), Bob Marley, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, the early Elvis Sun recordings, The Stranglers, The Doors, Creedence Cleawater Revival, The Beastie Boys, Hendrix, The Who. God, there's so much. And here's a song by Louden Wainright III (remember him?) for my wee darlin':

MOTEL BLUES

In this town television shuts off at two,
What can a lonely rock 'n' roller do?
Well, the bed's so big and the sheets are clean
Your girlfriend said that you were nineteen
The styrofoam ice bucket's full of ice
Come up to my motel room, treat me nice.

I don't want to make no late night New York calls
Don't want to stare at those ugly grass-mat walls
Chronologically I know your young
But when you kissed me in the club, you bit my tongue
I'll write a song for you and put it on my next LP
Come up to my motel room, sleep with me.

There's a bible in the drawer, don't be afraid
I'll put up a sign to warn the clean-up maid
There's lots of soap and lots of towels
Never mind those desk-clerk scowls
I'll buy you breakfast,
They'll think you're my wife
Come up to my motel room
Save my life

Sitting on a Lit bench.
Eyeing little newbies with bad intent......

That was the rumor. Their albums (of which I have two) were full of psychedellic imagery -- lots of "Clues" to look for, including the very name "Klattu", a word spoken to the robot Gort from "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and who appears on a cover of a Ringo Starr album.

And they never listed the names of the band. No photos, no singing or writing credits. Hmm.

And the songs are extremely "Sgt. Pepper".

LOL I don't believe it for a minute, but a lot of people did.

You know I was witting around thinking remembering songs and bands that I would like to see on stage some time, with all the original members..

"The Beatles"
"The Doors"
"Marty Robbins"
"Jim Crocci"
"Thin Lizzy"
"Stix"
"Blizzard of Oz"
"Quiet Riot"
"The Who"
"Jimmy Hendrix Experiance"
"Rolling Stones"
"Def Leapard"
"Hank Williams"
"Patsy Cline"
"Skeeter Davis"
"Eddy Arnold"
"Nervana"
"Toto"
"Led Zepplin"
"The Carpenters"
and "Spinal Tap"
Just to name a few.. :D

Bee Gees! hehe...

And I loved Karen Carpenter too. ~sigh.. such a gorgeous voice.

The Exploited, G.B.H., the Subhumanz. They don't make punk like that anymore.

Haha, Ian. The Exploited were from Edinburgh. Did you know Big John was Nirvana's roadie for a while and ended up playing guitar live with them?

DCL - so were Klatuu any good then? Were they more 'Tomorrow Never Knows' (thumbs up) or 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' (thumbs down)?

Funny......

reading this thread I find that none of the bands mentioned -

are old to me.

Hmmmmmmm? That must mean something.

Frankie Valli - Walk Like A Man.

PH - Sung to the tune of.....

Walk like a man
Sing like a woman
I'm an old midget
Greasy Goomba

ABCDEFGHI got a gal in Kalamazoo . . .

I'm another Glenn Miller fan. You could also throw Thelonious Monk (hey, his middle name was "Sphere") in there for old stuff.

Try Sam Cooke for the 60's.

Todd Rundgren and Bob Marley were the 70's.

And I am a hopeless addict for The Jam and The English Beat (I know in the UK, they were just The Beat)for the early 80's.

Hey sista!

Got some J Geils stuff from Napster..made a whole CD from some Skid Row I got there. Man those guys make me hot! ;) Sweet little sister anyone? *grin* (yes, that was one of those silly little incest cliches) [/QUOTE]

Listening to it right now...

She blew my mind behind the wrecking machine,
She was a shitload a trouble, called the subway queen
had a hip with bad habits and the shake that was a bit obscene

Got her hands in the cookie jar,
smilin like an alligator!
Makin headlines in the back of the car
Tight lipped now but sink ships later

I know a thing or two about
Sweet little sister
Her momma kill her if she knew what she did
Sweet little sister
She'll love ya black and blue
Sweet little sister
She's a Mona Lisa with a new Tattoo
She's my sweet little-Sweet little sister

We cover Piece Of Me...

I miss Creedence...
and the real GnR..not Axl and his revue...

Neil Diamond?????
Air Supply???
next someone will be missing New Kids On the Block

Dixon..why does Alan Parsons Project come to mind..
I remember Klattu vaguely and thought Alan Parsons may have something to do with it...

Or maybe I am nuts..
