What long ago band do you love

Iron Maiden
and
The Cult

Hey IRON MAIDEN has a NEW album out with THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS and it ROCKS.

I grew up listening to my parent's vinyl records--anything by:

Led Zeppelin
The Doors
Jethro Tull
AC/DC
Rolling Stones
Janis
Jimi

LED ZEPPELIN!!!!

Listening to Blck Dog right now - real loud.

Can't believe that they didn't get mentioned till the middle of page two?!

Other than them:
Hendrix
Queen
Dire Straits
Pink Floyd
Guns 'n' Roses
AC/DC
And lots more particularly classic hard rock.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood. I think they only did Relax.

What? Why are you people looking at me that way?

Long ago? The Lester Lanin Orchestra, Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller

Not so long ago? Elvis, The Doors, Zeppelin

Even less long ago? Pink Floyd, Van Halen (with David), Def Leppard, Police, Bruce

And even more recently? The Smiths, The Cure, XTC

Guns'n'Roses

What the hell happened to GNR? Did Axl and Slash have an ego clash? That was one hell of a group; too bad they're gone--

okay so she is not a band but I had major hots for Lita Ford.....

and I got thrown over the wall at a Motley Crue /Quiet Riot concert wwwoooo-hhhhooo! Rock on dude!

WOW thanks for all the responses. I have just been sitting here reading all the answers and I cannot believe all the bands I had forgotten about. I am going to go download crazy tomorrow with the list I just made.

I'd like to echo the comments from Bonnie Wee Lassie, and Chuckus -- Rush!
The best part is that they aren't gone... they are headed back into the studio after a 3+ year hiatus at the end of January.
Since they've been on vacation, Alex Lifeson (guitarist) has produced a solo album called "Victor" which was excellent! Further, he worked with 3 Doors Down recently, producing three of their new tracks. Plus, to any of you Gene Roddenberg fans (Star Trek), Alex created, recorded, and produced the theme music for the Andromeda (sp?) series.
Geddy Lee (bass, vocals, keyboards, et. al.) has just released his own solo project "My Favorite Headache" which is awesome!!!
The two can be found on the South Park, "Bigger, Longer, Uncut" soundtrack doing a rendition of "Oh Canada." Great sense of humour with these guys.

As you may notice, I consider myself somewhat of a fan.

As for bands that are gone, I'm anxiously awaiting the VH1 "Where are they now?" installment for N'Sync (or any of the so-called "boy bands"). And, I'm hopin' the answer is either "6 feet under" or "flippin' burgers at Wendy's." Damn they're a fucking waste of flesh.

Oh, and here's one for our British brethren:

Dr. Feelgood...

Lee Brilleaux--God love him--

"See ya later, alligator..."

Depends what you mean by long ago. I'm 43... long ago for me would be bands from the late 60's and 70's... not so long ago would be bands from the 80's (maybe early 90's) for some older than me bands from the 50's and 60's would be long ago. And for those in their 20's and 30's well, long ago would probably be the late 80's and 90's!

So... LONG AGO (for me):

Frank Zappa - can't believe no one has mentioned him yet!
King Crimson - YES! And still going!
Parliament/Funkadelic (George Clinton)
Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band (check out Magical Mystery Tour strip club scene - that's the Bonzo's playing)
Captain Beefheart
Mahavishnu Orchestra (John McLaughlin, and Shakti too!)
Todd Rundgren (and Utopia)
Emerson, Lake and Palmer
Alice Cooper
Jeff Beck
Miles Davis
Bowie (could be on both long ago and present lists!)
Pink Floyd (likewise)
Roxy Music
10CC
Blood Sweat and Tears
Chicago
Return To Forever
NRBQ
Spirit
Turtles
Velvet Underground
Lou Reed
Mott the Hoople
Hendrix
Cream
Tower of Power
Jethro Tull
Kinky Friedman
Nilsson
Iggy Pop and the Stooges
Sex Pistols
John Lennon
Beatles
Return to Forever
Clash
Arlo Guthrie
The Rutles
Matching Mole
Led Zepplin
Bachman Turner Overdrive
The Who
Ten Years After
Electric Light Orchestra
The Residents
Edgar Winter Group
Herbie Hancock
Billy Cobham
Queen
Stevie Wonder
Sly and the Family Stone
Yes
The Move
Steppenwolf
Genesis with Peter Gabriel
Simon and Garfunkel
Donovan

Not so long ago (for me):

Television
The The
Weird Al Yankovic
Blondie
Soft Cell
Prince
B-52's
Material
Spinal Tap
Magazine
The Jam
The Tubes
Oingo Boinbo
James White and the Blacks
Eurythmics
Lounge Lizards

That's off the top of my head and without getting into REALLY long ago (ie - Mozart, Beethoven, Schoenberg...)
