What made you smile or laugh today? Part IV

I know someone like that as well and he promised to take me along bird watching one day soon
[Snip]

It basically covers most of my favorite things in the world - linguistics, coming up with new names, debates and snacks. It could be a slippery slope to insanity for me…
I have a suggestion that might keep you on the north side of that slippery slope: challenge yourself to cook 6 different main dishes over the next couple of months using small game birds. Squab, Cornish Game Hen, and Quail all come to mind here. The smaller, the better.

I’m okay cooking and eating birds, that wouldn’t change much for me.

Cooking small game birds is so fidgety, though, that I’d probably just lose interest in cooking but maybe that’s not such a big loss considering my very minimal interest towards it lately anyway.

I was in the hospital last night because of my severe, chronic pain. I was happy to not be in as much pain when I woke up. Unfortunately, the pain went back to my normal later on. My parrots also made me happy. I got to go get ice cream with my mom, too!

Dementia is no laughing matter, but as someone who lately has acquired the ability to forget what I was doing while I am doing it, I find this...saisfying. I am not alone (And, my standard gift to my retiring friends includes a small tape measure that they can keep with them at all times so when they go into the garage to find something and forget what it was, they can go back to where they started and show everyone the tape, so that they don't think Grandpa is losing all his red Lego pieces if you know what I mean..).

Anyway, evidently this is a real thing, and it may explain a lot...

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my lawn.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over
at my car and decide my car needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice that there
is mail on the porch table that I brought up from
the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail
in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the
can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take
out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I’m going to be near the mailbox
when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay
the bills first.

I take my check book off the table, and see that there
is only one check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go
inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke
that I had been drinking.

I’m going to look for my checks, but first I need to push
the Coke aside so that I don’t accidentally knock it over.
I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should
put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke a vase of
flowers on the counter catches my eye – they need to be
watered.

I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my
reading glasses that I’ve been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first
I’m going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a
container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will
be looking for the remote, but I won’t remember that it’s
on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the
living room where it belongs, but first I’ll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills
on the floor.

So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some
towels and wipe up the spill.

Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was
planning to do.

At the end of the day:

the lawn isn’t watered,
the car isn’t washed,
the bills aren’t paid,
there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter,
the flowers don’t have enough water,
there is still only one check in my check book,
I can’t find the remote,
I can’t find my glasses,
I don’t remember what I did with the car keys,
and my neighbor called to tell me he turned off the hose
that was flooding the driveway.

Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I’m really baffled because I know I was busy all day long,
and I’m really tired. I realize this is a serious problem,
and I’ll try to get some help for it, but first I’ll check my e-mail.

Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to someone
you know, because I may not remember to whom it has been sent.

Don’t laugh — if this isn’t you yet, your day is coming!

GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY.
GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.
LAUGHING AT YOURSELF IS THERAPEUTIC!

Ever so slight hints of leaves starting to emerge in the trees during my walk. I can’t wait for the scenery to first have that light veil of light green before the leaves really come out and then it’s this crazy bright explosion of fresh greenery. Come on, spring, it’s time!

Yay I hope we both get leaves soon!

It’s getting colder here again though, so I don’t know how hopeful I dare to be.

It is supposed to be 15°C / 59°F here on Saturday! Daffodils will be open by then, I hope.
Below +10C (50F) here and it’s been quite windy, so it feels cold. We had a brief spell of warmth a few weeks ago but lately it’s been mostly between +5-10C and some days below that. Haven’t gotten any snow in two weeks though, so that gives me hope.

I’m waiting for wood anemones to start blooming. I saw some liverworts when I was in Åland in the beginning of the month. :)

We have temperatures around 15°C during the day, but still a frost in the mornings. We have had little or no rain for some time, so I’m a bit worried about the bonfires tomorrow. It looks as if they’ll allow them though.

I’m going to the opera today. I don’t know what I’m going to wear so that stresses me out, I’m thinking PJ bottoms aren’t suitable no matter how comfortable I’ve gotten wearing them during the pandemic. It’s the first time I’m going somewhere cultural like this in over two years so I’m excited!

Oh, that’s great!
Do you have any clothes that look dressy and grown up, but feel like pyjamas?

We were just talking about what to wear here to, because the kids are both going to parties to celebrate last of april, with bonfires and all. They will of course empirically be wearing something way to cold for the weather. Has anyone ever managed to do it differently on this night?

If someone invents dressy, grown up opera clothes that feel like PJs, they’ll get so rich so fast.

I decided to wear a black dress with puffy sleeves, so that’s one problem sorted. :)

As to wearing weather appropriate clothes… I’m still not very good at doing that myself, so I have sympathy for your kids. At least they have the bonfires to keep them warm. Much like our midsummer bonfires - warmth is their biggest appeal to me. It’s almost always cold on May Day and Midsummer’s Eve.

We decided to skip the traditional May Day picnic brunch, because it’s just not warm enough for me. I’m previous years I’ve been to that park freezing my ass of in all sorts of weathers, in the name of tradition. But now I decided I’d rather have the brunch home, not freeze, sit by the table. This feels very grown up. Although there are lots of families and groups of friends with grandparent aged people taking part in the picnic tradition, so I guess I’m just lazy, in a way.

I might go for a walk in the park though to take in the atmosphere, or maybe I’ll just follow it online. Lazy. :D
