What pissed you off today?

I am an administrative assistant to a fantastic human being. My VP is wonderful and understanding. Today he disclosed to me that his position has been abolished. I nearly cried. What a stuipid company. They would not know a great leader if one slapped them. :(

I posted this on 10-12-2010. Today, six goddamned days later, some fuckwit broke the driver's window in MIS' car to steal her GPS. In broad daylight. In the parking lot at her school.

WHAT THE FUCK

Y'all should look into booby-trapping your vehicles. ;)

students who can't write a coherent sentence! how did these kids graduate from high school!?!?!?!?!

Word. I have juniors and seniors in college in the class I'm grading for who can't write complete sentences, either. I swear, my mission for this class is to work basic sentence definition and diagramming back into the curriculum. Sad that they need it this late in life... but it will NOT be my fault that they go out into the world unable to effectively communicate.

When I taught high school English (9th and 10th grades), I forced my students to learn - because almost none of them had ever even *heard* of it - to diagram sentences. I squeezed it in, despite all the strictures against making major changes to the curriculum. Not compound/complex sentences, but just normal sentences with a subject, a verb, a couple of adjectives, adverbs, and maybe even a direct or indirect object. Funny thing: Those who did well in my freshman/sophomore English classes generally made really good grades in their junior and senior English classes with other teachers.

However, I was finally told by the department head that the junior and senior English teachers, with the backing of the other 9/10 teachers, had requested that I no longer teach my students to diagram sentences, as it gave them an unfair advantage over students from other 9/10 English classes... primarily because the other 9/10 teachers mostly didn't know to diagram themselves!

I took it up the line to the assistant principal for curriculum, the principal, then the area director, and finally to the county assistant superintendent for high school English before they backed down and let me continue. I was a stubborn bahstid, ya know? But my students - even the ones who didn't diagram well - knew how to construct a sentence.

Poxy night guard. The guy is constantly leaving crap in the office, dirty dishes, cups, cutlery for me to clean... i leave ONE cup in the sink and the cheeky bastard writes up that i left the place in a state.
Asshole.

I asked this same question about high school students who couldn't read and write and was told that they are passed through from primary school because to fail them and make them repeat a grade would be damaging to their self esteem....sheesh, how do they think it gives them a good self esteem when they find they can't read and write after leaving school and unable to get a good job because of it?!! No longer the education systems problem then, I guess.

Long day at work yesterday, 450 miles of driving. Get home to find out someone hit and killed my dog yesterday and didn't even stop to tell someone. Lousy thing to do since someone was home and had just let him out in the fenced yard. Buried him this morning and searched the fence and found a fresh spot where I could tell he had dug out.

I miss my little furry buddy.....

Some people don't have the guts to own up to anything they do - or, in their phrasing, that "happens to them." So sorry for your little buddy, and I hope that at least his passing was quick and relatively painless and fear-free. Also so sorry for you; I've lost pets - too many - in the past, both quickly and slowly, and both hurt, severely. :rose:

Thank you Sir Winston.,...I think it was quick since the lady who sits with my mom said he was dead when she found him and it was only a few minutes after she had let him out. Not havings kids my 4 legged friends mean the world to me and I had rescued this little guy three years ago. I have another rescued at home and she is lonely now so I'm looking for another one....

Thanks again...

Asshat.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Waking up with a raging fever, sore throat and cough, with a day's work to do for pressing copy deadlines, and with him 125 miles way instead of two inches away.

OMG I'm so sorry for your loss. If this happened to my dog I'd be inconsolable.:rose::rose:

This actually happened yesterday but:

I found three garbage bags of torn up cardboard in the recycle bins of our block of units. Sure use the bags to carry it to the bin, but WHY NOT THEN EMPTY THE BAGS INTO THE BIN INSTEAD OF JUST THROWING IT IN THERE??? PLASTIC BAGS ARE NOT RECYCLABLE!!!!

Sorry for the shouting but this happens way too often here and I'm sure the next door block of units uses our bins too. I think it came from there because the closest bin to the door wasn't used, it was like someone had walked up the drive and thrown the rubbish into the bins there.

Christ on a popsicle how hard is it to sort your rubbish properly???

I had a migraine today and there was some f'ing kid on a loud dirt bike right outside my window. I seriously wished I had a pellet gun, but instead I took a bath and drank some wine. All better (except kid's still suck)

We get regular mail from the council about the recycling... last one was about NOT putting plastic bags in the recycling bins.

I know I've been guilty of it in the past.. but now I use my shopping bag for rubbish and an old green bag for recycling, so I can just tip the stuff into the bin

I use a box for paper and shopping bags for rubbish and recycling and just tip that into the bin. What with dialysis and household stuff I can almost fill a recycle bin on my own in a week - every 2nd day there are cardboard boxes (flattened) and one or two 5 litre plastic containers. We have 4 recycle bins for 8 units....
