He felt a pang of guilt and shame. He should have remembered this from Afghanistan. In many ways, it was worse waiting for news of a wounded comrade than it was for the wounded to be the wounded.
He hated that feeling, and now he'd subjected one of the two persons he loved the most to it. he reddened with shame. She had every right to be angry with him. But more than anything, he knew what fueled that anger. It was fear for him. Tears filled his eyes as his guilt coupled with the events of the day and the adrenaline crash hit him siultaneously. He started weeping, unable to contain himself.
"I'm so sorry, Corrine!"
