Part of the issue is that being open and honest about past regrets tends to get a guy hammered. At least it did for me. So now I do my best to own my screw-ups, I work to be a better person, and I chart my own course knowing that most people will never understand how much energy I spend every day just to hit baseline "normal".

I can appreciate and support that. I think people forget how much “I’m sorry” can mean.
 
That moment when you realize your parents can no longer be your emergency contacts or make medical decisions for you because of dementia and the only other person you have is your 21 year old daughter.
 
Today has been a day! Yesterday our military bosses told us to ignore the “what did you do last week” emails, we were safe, can’t touch us….

Today we get an email from the Chief of Staff of our agency saying we will get another email Monday 3/3 and we have 48 hours to respond with 5 bullet points for 2/17-2/21.

So yesterday ignore the email but today we have to respond.

I’m so glad it’s Friday!

**ETA I got a text just as I got home that we received another email this one from the secretary of defense that we MUST respond with our 5 bullet points….the or else was implied.

Tomorrow I’ll go to work to an email saying I have to report weekly what I’ve accomplished. This email will be followed by another email signed and sealed from much higher up. I’m sure there will be more but that’s what we know for now. These emails were sent Friday afternoon after we had left for the day.

My chain of command has started texting us in the evenings and have even shown up at peoples houses if they didn’t answer. I guess more than a couple of people have talked about suicide.

For everyone who’s happy about federal workers losing their jobs you can get fucked.

For everyone who’s shown kindness and support thank you.

This is so stupid! And it isn't enough to say "it's classified"?
In Sweden you have to be security tested before you even breathe on things like your facilities.

I turned in my email. Printed all the emails and signed memos I have received. I have a folder full of all my SF50s for promotions, appraisals and awards. Now I’m getting ready for the furlough.

Today was surprisingly smooth and easy though and I appreciate that. And I appreciate everyone here.
