Voted 'other' .

It would take having difficulty breathing to get me to decide I need to get to an ER.
I'd lay down an hour or so and see if it passes first.
But I'd only be willing to wait 3 hours in that ER with my undiagnosed collapsed lung, and then I'd beg for a glass of orange juice for my lethargic type 1 diabetic spouse. Upon refusal, I would drive the 15 minute drive home with him JUST for a glass of orange juice.
After that I'd grocery shop for about 20 minutes.
Then I'd go home and propose a plan for dinner so that he and the kids can eat.
Then I'd get a neighbor to agree to take me bakc to the ER..
but,
I'd say fuck it and just collapse on the way out the door and wait for an ambulance.

But I hate repeating history......
and that visit nearly killed me..... so.....
I'll not waste time with our local ER in any comparable situation.
I'll take my chances and drive the fucking hour or so to a REAL hospital, for a bit of quality care, ... instead.

The neurologist couldn't find anything wrong but wanted me to have an MRI and an EKG on my head.

He also said there is no way to rule out food poisoning from blood work. If you have been keeping score that is in direct conflict with what yesterday's doc said.

I probably won't be able to schedule those test this week or next as I'm very busy the rest of this week and next I'm out of town.

They will probably schedule you further out even if you call now and beg for tomorrow.

Generalists = generally useless. You heard it here.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I had no idea this what this thread was about!! Please let me know if you need anything- I'm fairly close to you I think so please don't hesitate to ask. :) Please be well and take care.

you know, i didn't have any real symptoms although i'd been to my chiropractor quite a bit with a sore neck. i thought i'd pulled a muscle.

but, i had a bit of pain over my right eye so the optometrist did a few tests and got me an immediate appointment with an opthalmic surgeon as they suspected ms. he ordered an mri to confirm.

i'm really busy too. we'd just contracted to buy a new property, i have work, my horses to look after. my husband works 4000 klms away for 2 weeks at a time.

the mri showed nothing at all wrong with my brain, medically speaking lol. but 1 film caught the top of my spine and showed a big, fat, intramedullary ependymoma. had it bled due to normal physical effort i would have been dead within about 8 minutes. the cervical spine controls your diaphragm and so your breathing.

in the midst of my busy life i had to find time for immediate surgery and 3 weeks in hospital. the recovery of all my physical functions might take up to a year. i feel weak and sick and really frustrated with the slow progress and i am still really busy.

but i am alive and will be well again. go have your mri and don't begrudge the time it takes.

good luck, hope yours is clear

Now that is scary.

I've been to the chiro a lot this past year. I've been able to manage without him since just before the fourth of July!

*pumps fist*

But your post kind of scared me.

*hug*

I'm glad you are doing okay now.

3 times for me. First time I was skydiving and screwed up the landing, breaking both bones in my lower leg right above the ankle. The drop zone called an Fire Dept ambulance from the nearby little town to take me to the emergicenter about 20 minutes away in Casa Grande. I couldn't walk...the bottom of my foot was pointing out to the left, 90 deg from where it should be pointing. Once they set my leg at the center, I got another ambulance ride from there back to Phoenix, about 50 miles. I got screws and plates in my ankle and a 3 day hospital stay for that one.

3rd time I had been having chest pains for about a week...they would go way in a few minutes once I sat down. Well I was at my sons HS play and the pains came back...worse than before and wouldn't go away. Turns out one of the teachers was there that night and he had been an EMT years before. He took charge, having them call the ambulance, keeping me calm (not easy let me tell you), etc. The FDNY EMTs got there and got me in the ambulance. They took an EKG and drove me to the ER. Once there the ER docs took another EKG and told me it looked fine. Just before the FD guys left, they dropped off the EKG they ran when they picked me up. I gave it to the Dr and within 10 mins of looking at it, they told me I was going to CCU as soon as a room opened up. Turns out I had a 90% blocked artery and needed to have a balloon angioplasty and a stent put in. Dr said if I hadn't come in that night, I would have died within 6 months of a massive heart attack.

Wow! Those are scary times. I'm glad you are okay now. I want to go sky diving! I'm just waiting for my kids to go off to college first.

Oh I believe it.

Actually they scheduled me for when I'm out of town, this next Tuesday.

I told them I was out of town that week but did they listen? Hell no.

I straightened it out but as I suspected, I can't get in until the week I get back. In order to fit it in I have to go early enough to make me vomit ( probably, literally) but at least it won't interfere with anything else I have to do.

~smiles~

Hope you feelin better FurryFury! :rose:

I'm good. I'm getting better sleep since I've gotten checked out. I just have so much to do and I'm so far behind.

Today however I'm hoping to have coffee with some friends while we wait for our teens to take science labs. Woo hoo!

Of course it's sleeting. So no one may show but me and my teens. LOL.

Its a hell of a rush...almost like a bird. You can go forwards, backwards and side to side...pretty much everything except go back up without a plane. Pay close attention to what the instructor tells you and you should be fine. Go here and you can find a dropzone thats close to you. Look for one that offers tandem skydiving.

Hope everythings working out for you...what you went through would scare the living hell outta me.

I'm cool with it now. I figure the crisis is over. I am wondering if I should ask, not that they'd listen to me for them to take the MRI into my neck spine now.

Yeah I got a similar rush from bungee cord jumping and parasailing but I want to hang glide and sky dive as well. I'm looking forward to doing those things as well as many others on my "to do list."

So today, I'm suddenly sore in new places all over and kind of achy too. WTH? Just when you start feeling normal again some shit like this happens. Plus, I'm dropping / spilling things all the time but I have days like that.

At this point I've done what I can do. It's time to focus on the last of my work outside the home, packing and other prep for the trip, the last of our social events and finishing up school for this week.

furry, i'm really pleased you're booked in for your tests. if there is anything wrong it's better to find out as early as possible.

that said, we all have clumsy days and odd aches and pains, so don't worry yourself silly over your break.

do make sure that you tell your neurologist about EVERYTHING you've experienced, even if you believe it couldn't be related. no layman would be able to guess at the connections between nerves, muscles and the brain.

eg. when i yawn, my dead arm lifts itself. even more bizarre, i had my 1st post surgery play with my vibrator. yeah, my bits work, but the dead arm zaps and dances along with them lol lol. how many people can say they've had an orgasm in their arm ???

That is wild!

I have shared everything. Many of my symptoms are integrated to other problems like allergies, degenerative disks in my neck and so on it's a tangled skein indeed.

Ambulance only once when I was in shock after breaking my leg badly, doing an upper and lower sprain of my ankle on the way down. I literally couldn't crawl to my car.

ER-when I am in shock, I can't breathe or it feels like I am drowning, I am seriously dehydrated, or like a few days ago when I can't stop throwing up, am covered in hives and my tongue swelling.

Someone from the hospital called today. I wasn't here to get the call. I can't make out the return phone number and she didn't leave a last name. So I don't know what she was calling about or how to get back in touch. People who can't speak clearly or say why they are calling piss me off.

Its probably too late, but just call the hospital. Whoever called you probably made a note on your computerized chart. At least that is how it works around here. Or call the mri center and see if it was them.

Yeah, it's too late. I have to get ready to travel now and forget about health concerns!

:D

Sorry, I was too late with the suggestion. :(

Have a great trip!
