What's with the re-categorization?

Since she posted it in another thread, I'll repost Laurel's comments here.

"As I've already stated earlier in this thread, the Loving Wives category was created to house stories which eroticized wives in the act of extramarital sex - be it in a swinging environment in which the husband also has sex or with the husband as a voyeur (directly watching or hearing about it afterwards) or many other possible scenarios in which the reader and husband are turned on by the act.

That is the purpose of the category.

For people to complain about the "cuckolds" in the category - men (both the husband/protagonist and the readers) who enjoy the taboo of an "unfaithful" wife - is like someone reading the Gay Male category and complaining about men having sex.

It makes no sense.

It also makes no sense to put stories in which a wife's infidelity is brutally described and punished. That would be like putting a story about a non-erotic anti-homosexual "morality" tale about a gay man being beaten for being gay in the Gay Male category.

I understand that the site is largely at fault for not delineating things earlier. But that doesn't change the fact that the original purpose of the category is to house stories in which a "cheating wife" is a turn-on."

So you can all stop wondering.

Or the wife having extra marital sex against the wish or knowledge of her husband... or the man having extra marital sex (there is no Loving Hubby category).

And in the case of unilaterally sanctioned extramarital activities, the aftermath - being it revenge, divorce or forgiveness - follows naturally in cases where the wronged party is the protagonist (there is no marital Infidelity category either).

Thus it makes perfect sense for the categories to be interpreted with great latitude and leave it to the readers to check the tagging or description for the specific type of stories they prefer. They're not stupid y'know - horny yes, but the upper brain still works for most.

This sounds like a positive change to me. It may make things less convenient for the revenge fantasy aficionados, but frankly I'm ok with that.

The problem is, now you have the LW's BTB nuts swarming to other categories with their wild comments and 1 votes. Group gets a lot of them lately where they didn't venture out of LW before.

But that's not fair to loving wives authors and readers. We shouldn't have our category hijacked by violent, bitter misogynists sending rape and death threats any more than any where else. This is a porn site, not am mra group on reddit.

The answer to that is better moderation of the comments and perhaps taking away the privilege of anonymous feedback all together. That is almost never actually constructive.

Nope sorry. Taking away Anonymous feedback will not make a dime of difference. All the anon has to do is create a throw-away account with a throw-away email id and keep on commenting.

Moreover, you actually lose out on genuinely helpful comments. I, for one, have found the vast majority of my Anon comments to be well thought out. Take the good with the bad in that regard, because there is enough good to offset the odd bad.

I get what frontlinecaster is saying. However, LW is, even by a more narrow interpretation of the category, broader than swinging and voluntary hotwife/voyeur husband themes. It also includes stories of wives cheating without the husband's permission and/or knowledge. Sometimes, it includes fem/dom type relationships (stories that perhaps should be in BDSM, but for the wife/husband dynamic). ukresearcher specializes in reluctant and even unwilling cuckold stories that are clearly meant to be erotic. xleglover explores the duality of excitement and jealousy experienced by a husband to a hotwife. In short, it ain't all fun and games and sunshine. How boring would it be if it was?
Instead, LW historically has explored all facets of cheating wife fiction. And, stories about unwilling cuckolds dealing with a cheating wife are not necessarily BTB stories, much less violent revenge stories. Often, they are dramatic, and at times also erotic, stories; some even feature reconciliation (see Ohio, Longhorn, Slirpuff, Renquist and others who dominate the LW Hall of Fame). Maybe these could be in romance or non-erotic, but I think they fit in well in LW.
In short, I think tradition a common sense dictate that LW be a big tent category.
I'm a little surprised that TXRad seems to applaud the (possible?) change of practice, since he has written a couple of excellent BTB (burn the bastard) stories and submitted them in LW.

I didn't applaud anything. I was pointing out the fact that moving stories has stirred the BTB crowd into venturing into other categories to sow their wrath so to speak.

Thank you on the compliment to my story but in all honesty, it shouldn't be in LW. It was an experiment to see if anyone actual read the stories or just skimmed them. A lot of the BTB bunch skims it seems as they missed the point that the wife didn't cheat until after hubby was dead.

Now you are talking about a different animal - that certain group of readers who vote down any infidelity story where the wife isn't severely punished using 10 or 20 different IP's, and supplement it with a flood of comments asking the writer to perform anatomically impossible feats involving his mom or a house hold pet. But it's not really a problem with the BTB authors. They can't help the fact that they have rabid and intolerant fans.

I disagree FC.

On this type of site you need anonymity. Besides if the BTB trolls go out of their way to 1-bomb a story from several IP addresses surely it will be no extra effort to register a few fake usernames.

I comment anonymous too most of the time despite being a registered user. The reason is that I'm an author and I don't want other authors to "owe me a compliment" just because I give them one. So I find this feature quite useful.

Btw. any author has the ability to edit or delete the comment, and you can also disable anonymous comments altogether. If an author cant handle the language thats the way to do it. Not some moderation from an external party.

See, and on other boards I agree with you. When I started out here I commented anonymously, I only registered an account to make a favorites list at one point and even then didn't use that to comment for a while. When I'm browsing the BDSM board or the Incest/Taboo board, I don't notice a problem with anonymous comments. But I think that the loving wives section is particularly toxic in that regard, which makes it hard for me to use a sort of 'live and let live' philosophy with it. I personally, just by commenting, have had death threats sent to me, and every time I read a story I like (my tastes there run to wife stealing more than anything else, cuckolding but more focused on the bull's perspective than the husband's) I know that to read the comments is going to be like wading into the worst parts of sites like 4chan and SomethingAwful. A bunch of bitter, lonely young men frothing at the mouth and spouting threats of violence because they literally don't know any other way to communicate. Xleglover's stories in particular are full of people telling him that if he doesn't have his characters kill himself he should do it instead.

Now, yes, the author can chose to turn that off, but doing so has a large stigma to it I've noticed, the anons get angry if you take away their soap box and it just draws their attention more. If we are going to keep LW a 'big tent' category than I think that the particular level of abuse and bile that it generates ought to garner some kind of special attention, either in the form of moderation or more limitations on commenting there.

Otherwise, make it clear that the BTB crowd should move somewhere else and over time their fans, and I don't buy that it's just their fans as not /all/ the threats I've seen are from nameless anons, will move on as well. They won't be exposed to stories that offend them so much, they won't flood Erotic Couplings and Romance if the cheating stories are all safely in one area and the BTB stories in others. It's the same logic as the gay male section, it's not flooded with homophobes ranting about the evils of 'teh gays', but if a man even looks at another dude's dick in any other section the idiots come out of the woodwork.

Who the fuck are you to decide who or what should be posted? If you notice the BTB stories far outscore the wimp cuck crap you read. Hot wives and slut wives are one thing, but the humiliation and fem dom shit that you and the other slimeball queers splash about belong in fetish.

The cheating wife stories were on the hub long before you came along pal. And a MAJORITY of the readers prefer them. So get bent and fuck off. You are not the authority on Lit and if Laurel banned you tomorrow nobody would miss you.

Ha! You really just set out to prove my point, didn't you? Here we are having a rational discussion, and one of the BTB crowd has to come in with personal insults. Have you read the thread in Story Feedback? Laurel says straight out that BTB and revenge stories don't belong in that category, it is meant for stories that make cheating wives an erotic subject. But please, tell me more about how the majority of readers agree with you, I'm sure Lit will suddenly become a democracy. Are you going to go into Gay Males and call them all faggots and complain that the majority of readers aren't gay?

I too think that only account names should be able to comment on stories (that's the case with this forum). I too think that it just means that the harassers will open accounts to use for that purpose. But then we at least will have a better gauge on who is saying what (and how often).

You must be liberal Marxist scum. No I don't read gay male so I stay away from the page. I don't read BDSM so I stay away from the page. The real problem in LW is fruitcakes like you, (well not like you because you can't get out from under your horse long enough to write something, I don't write cause I can't). The shit that pisses people off in LW is getting the fem dom humiliation FETISH stories and the gay male shit that gets put in those stories. But I don't see your troll ass bitching about those, maybe you don't get enough sodomy from gay male and think there needs to be more.

So go bury your head and stick to believing your myths....1 fem dom belongs in lw, the world owes you a living, and hussein obumma is a passable president.

Aww, it's adorable how you keep thinking that calling me gay is going to offend and upset me. I'm bi, and I don't care what you think about that. And yes, humiliation and femdomme belong in Loving Wives, if the story is primarily about the erotic nature of a cheating wife. So do stories of bulls dominating both wife and husband together, my personal taste. What don't belong there are angry, bitter little men who are so closed minded they have to lash out and insult and threaten anyone who has different kinks than them.

Oh, and you want to talk about politics? You really are hilarious, yep, you sure can guess a person's politics based entirely on what they like to jerk off to on the internet. No chance at all that I'm a libertarian or an independent, I like to look at a certain kind of porn on the internet, therefore you can magically tell I'm a communist! Kudos on your apparent mastery of both psychology and political science!
