When Darkness Falls

Dahmnall

"I dont have to drink blood, and i refuse to. It just means that I am tortured by a craving for it." Dahmnall said, ashamed. "I invented a remedy that helps alot though. Once a month, I make an elixir of dragons blood, essence of garlic, wolfsbane, with silver shavings and holy water, and I inject it." He said rolling up a sleeve and showing her the tracks from the syringe "It kills my craving completely for a couple days then it starts coming back. Catch 22 is I cant keep taking it, or I'd overdose and die." he said "Isnt great being me?" he said sarcastically

Dracius smiled, enjoying his memories for a moment, but as the seconds ticked by, the smile slowly faded. For a moment, Dria was completely forgotten as Dracius's mood continued to deteriorate. Alexandria, being so near the master vampire, was suddenly bombarded with snipits of images and flashes of emotion. She stepped back as a wave of raw and violent anger bubbled just beneath Dracius's stone hard exterior. Then, as soon as she felt it, it was gone, squelched by the master's iron will and discipline.

"I have experience with them. Some I have killed, one, .... I did not." He looked back to Dria, not showing or radiating a single trace of the near volcanic eruption that had threatened to rage only moments before.
"Still, many more of them have died at my hand than have escaped me, and I have eternity to exact my revenge."

" The so-called Slayers are nothing. Mere mortals who have a bit of awareness and gall to rise up against their betters, but the Hunters are different. They, like us, have some sembience of our powers and wield them against us. Again like us, some are more gifted than others."

He turned, again looking over the streets below them, back towards the Purple Dragon and the other nightclubs.
"But there are ways to fight them and defeat them, to break them. Once they are yours, a vampire can gain the powers of a Hunter by draining them dry, by consuming their souls....A most notable prize that not all of our bretheren are willing to try and claim, even those who know about it."

As I was stopped there, I looked around, waiting for the attack and as it came I quickly shot the vampire, watching it turn to dust. I then holstered my pistols and walked foreward heading to town. From what I could tell it was going to be an interesting night.

Kyrev walked around the town that he called his home. It had been a pleasant sleep once more and, after a quick visit to the butcher's, he had slaked his hunger.

Absentmindedly he gazed up at the stars. To most people they never changed. But after a hundred years, you start to notice new ones appear as others fade away.

Sighing contentedly to himself, he wrapped his white jacket around himself in a mock attempt to ward off the cold. Of course, it wasn't like he noticed it as much as he once did...

She felt her connection lost to Alexandria. Oh well she thought. Walking a little farther, she came upon two figures in the street. In the car, it was the lady form the bar and near it there was a man with her. She sniffed the air about them. Hunter. She hated them. They were so out of touch with everything wanting only to RID the world of HER kind. What was her kind? She didnt know. But she felt it odd, the hunter had been bitten. He suffered. This pleased her tremendously.

Curiously drawn to him, she appeared out of the shadows where they were.

"My my my, you meet the oddest people in the strangest places. I must say I thought cops were prone to arresting and booking bad guys as opposed to hanging around with them and socializing with them. But, this one he looks a little down in the mouth as my momma used to say. What ails you my boy?" and with an afterthought, she smiled at the lady in the car. "Why Detective, how are you?" She thought the gist on the Hunter would be funny. Well to her it certainly was. She smiled contentedly. She knew he would have no idea she was a vamp. After all she was not your run of the mill vampire. She gave no scent of blood. She was not prone to the eccentricities the others were, and besides Alexandria tonight was her first real encounter with others and Hunters alike.

Laughing to herself she lay her amused eyes on the company in her presence.

Amelia pulled her car up to Dahmnall's motorcycle and got out of the car. She was saying goodnight to him when she saw Cecillia walk up.

There was something strange about this lady who walked up, something that made Dahmnall quite wary.

What she wanted was to rip this hunter into a thousand pieces and scatter him to the wind. She walked a bit closer, smiling that unnerving smile. She smelled the uncertainty. Her smile widened. The secret was hers to keep unless they should find out. Especially the Hunter.

Dahmnall

Dahmnall subtly reached lower to unclip his gun, He didnt know what she was, but it surely wasn't human. "What can I do for you lass?" he asked lighting a cigarette

"tOh now now, lets not get all hasty. I was only walking and amidst my thoughts, you and the Detective here came into view. Being an old acquaintence of hers, I just wanted to say hello. Unless that is you have something else in mind sir. By the way, I'm Cecillia, how are you?" she said presenting her hand. She would know him in a minute if he touched her. Besides, she needed some fun.

Dahmnall

Dahmnalls eyes narrowed, and he took a long drag on his smoke, blowing it out his nose. "Forgive me if i dont shake hands." he said keeping his eyes on her

"Oh. I understand. With the germs that are floating around, you really can never tell. Why, Im sure there are some that would, umm, kill a person" she said. Her words could not hide the laughter she felt.

Dahmnall

"As im sure you know there are some diseases out that can really grab you by the neck and suck your blood, you know what i mean?" Dahmnall said with another drag

"Of course. One can never be to careful as I see you have foudn out" I said pointing to his half healed wound.

"That looks really nasty. I am almost sure that is a fatal wound" her eyes twikling with urge. She wanted to play. She was ready

Dahmnall

"I've had worse," dahmnall said, lighting another smoke and taking a swig of whiskey. "One almost took me, after it healed you might say i became a new man." he said with a drag putting a subtle hand on his gun.

"Ahhh, well, I understand. I have had near fatal wounds once myself. It was a very unpleasant experience but in the end, it all worked out for the best you could say. By the way, I dont think I caught your name Mr?"

"A pleasure, but its Miss. Miss Cecillia Evans. Forgive me if I seem a bit inquisitive, I am an only child and alas, my parents were killed by a ruthless creaton so I have lived most of my life here and there" she dropped her head giveing the affect of lonelyness. She was anything but. Her hunting kept her busy. Suddenly, there were sirens as cars and ambulances raced past them and towards the park where she had just came.

"Pity, wonder what the tragedy is this time" she said.

Dahmnall

"I am sure its quite the mystery to ya" Dahmnall said "Ami, it looks like they're playing your song," he said, referring to the sirens. "I'll pick you up after mass, for dinner at me grandda's" he said with another long drag.

Kyrev continued to walk the streets, seemingly lost in thaught. Somewhere nearby there were sirens wailing, and a couple of humans ran past to investigate. Such things, however, rarely grabbed his attention these days.

Concentrating a little more on where he was going, Kyrev stopped in his tracks. Up ahead three people were talking. Two of them, however, seemed to be somewhat at odds in their body language with the third. That is, of course, from he could tell at this distance.

He started walking up to the group and, as he passed close by, he smiled at them - his suit obviously having grabbed their attention. Not many people tend to wear white during the night. "Nice night"

Dria was startled by the sudden wave of raw emotion that bombarded her as she waited for Darius to answer her question. It was clear from the small flashes of memory that reached her that at least one Hunter had gotten the better of him at some point but she couldn't make out the memory clearly, only that it made him angry - such an insignificant word for the level of anger she felt coming off him - and that she was glad that anger wasn't directed at her personally.

"But there are ways to fight them and defeat them, to break them. Once they are yours, a vampire can gain the powers of a Hunter by draining them dry, by consuming their souls....A most notable prize that not all of our bretheren are willing to try and claim, even those who know about it."

Consume the powers of a Hunter? Could that truly be possible? She'd never heard it before but that didn't mean it couldn't be a possibility and one she paused to consider as she stared out over the night.

"There's one in town you know? A hunter I mean. I saw him in the Dragon tonight. He was more interested in the woman he was talking to to pay attention to me otherwise he likely would have cause a spectical in my bar which would have been annoying.

No one like having their herd spooked. I was starting to think perhaps it was time to simply get out of Dodge."

"No one like having their herd spooked. I was starting to think perhaps it was time to simply get out of Dodge."

Dracius frowned, although he seemed at least partly lost in thought at the mention of a hunter in town.

"They want you to run my dear." he said before looking up and into her eyes again.
"Have you ever seen warfare? Oh not this television, push button, somewhere over there type of war the mortals seem to decry and worship at the same time, no. I mean war! The struggle for all or nothing, to win or be crushed, victory or death. War!"
"All such war is fought with the will. The will to win, the will to survive, the will to succeed. Let us take you and this hunter you speak of as an example; You sense them, they sense you and the stage is set. Now you, by your own admission are considering to leave the city. So without a fight, without a challenge, contest or even seeing the other face-to-face, you have elected to abbandon your herd, hunting grounds, haven, contacts and everything you have made for yourself or established and flee the one place where you are strongest, where you are hidden, where you are safest and flee into the open, running for your very existence before the mean, wicked mortal comes and ends your unlife."

Dracius raised an eyebrow at her. "Thus endeth the battle, yet the war will continue whether you flee or not."

"So now my dear, I am curious; do you still wish to run?"

"So now my dear, I am curious; do you still wish to run?"

Dria didn't care about his power at the moment. He'd all but called her a coward and that didn't sit well...in part because some of what he said made sense.

"I never want to run Darius. I've been smart enough to remain under their radar for over a hundred years. My life is never in any danger until others of my kind show up in town. As long as it's just me the Slayers and Hunters stay away because they have no idea there's a vampire around.

I don't kill those I drink from and those few I have had to kill I didn't taste, leaving their deaths looking like accident or gang violence."

Sighing softly she tore her glaring gaze from him and stared out over the city below them, "You're right though. I like it here. I've stayed much longer than I normally do and I don't really want to leave."
