"Where They Wander"

Shannon nodded and took a grateful swig from the bottle, trying to catch her breath. "Two miles? That it? I barely worked up a sweat!" She grinned and handed the water back.

"So, are you headed somewhere or runnin' from something? Cause your enthusiasm back there makes me think there's a couple other folks with arrows in their heads that shouldn't be there."

"I'm just trying to find some people who won't try to kill or rape me." Katt said with a shrug. "I've had some bad experiences with guys, so I just figured you were in trouble..." Katt said, feeling somewhat better that the men she'd killed today were criminals. "But yea. Today wasn't the first time I've had to kill someone." Katt said sadly.

The pair made their way back to Katt's car without incident. Katt refueled with one gas can, and put the second one in the back for emergencies. The two put their gear in the back seat before getting into the car. Katt turned the car on and smiled as her music blared through the stereo. She turned the music down and turned to Shannon. "So where should we go? Like I said, I've just been drifting. If you know anywhere with settlers, I'd like to head there." Katt said putting the car into gear.

"I'm a workin' girl, I'm used to drifting around." Shannon answered. "I've mostly been going from groups, not towns or cities."

She glanced back at that stylish gun of hers. "And don't feel too bad about the killing, if you needed to do it. Different rules here and now. I took care of a couple too."

"And hey, my work involves guys, plenty of 'em. So if you want to keep this strictly a girls only club for the time being, that's fine by me."

"It's not that I killed him, I've killed before, I just thought he was like, your boyfriend or something. I just have a rule about not killing people who don't deserve it, I know it's a weird distinction, but it's kept me sane. And I guess I never really thought about women having sex for supplies." Katt said, her tone somewhat disapproving. "How did you even get started in doing something like that? I'm still... I can't imagine doing that. I always thought sex should be with someone who knows you and loves you." Katt said maneuvering the car around a wrecked tractor trailer.

Shannon chuckled. "Sex for supplies. I guess I was doing that before... whatever you call this." She smiled. "You really never traded in? Respect. Cause you, you could if you needed to. The fact that you don't means you got something, like a moral fiber or somethin'. I hope you don't think I'm lacking moral fiber just cause I do use what God almighty in all his good graces bestowed on me. Cause I'm pretty sure I got it too."

"It's not that..." Katt said, her face blushing with embarrassment. "I just don't want to give away my virginity for a handful of bullets." she continued, her face burning. "I had a boyfriend before, but we didn't get very far. I um, for his birthday, I used my hand on him..." Katt said, closing her mouth before she died of embarrassment. But even though it was uncomfortable to reveal this to Shannon, it was also a huge relief to admit it someone. In the past three years, and before, Katt had wondered about sex. And if Shannon wasn't an expert on the subject, the subject had no experts.

'A virgin?" Shannon beamed. "That's so sweet. That makes your gift all the more special, I'm sure. I bet your boyfriend loved it, though I can't imagine him lasting quite long." She chuckled.

"Oh, I hope I'm not making you uncomfortable. I mean, I know I'm flippant and all, but that's just on accounts of who I am, but if you need me to tone down the language, well, I'm pleased as punch to do so. I am your guest and all."

"I just killed three guys, I don't know how many walking corpses, and it's the end of the world. I don't give a fuck about your language." Katt laughed. "It's different hearing it than saying it. I think it's the way I was raised, and lack of experience. But you don't need to change yourself because of me." Katt said. "And he really loved it. She giggled. "But I don't know how long guys are supposed to last. He made it about two minutes, but I don't know if that's any good. I didn't really watch any porn..." Katt said, her face reddening again.

"Yeah, but words are just words. Sex is... complicated." Shannon sat back. "And I think it's romantic that you still think like that, that you're gonna find Mr. Right. Although at this point, I think the field has been narrowed a bit." She chuckled. "What if the right man for you was one of those wanderers back there?"

Katt laughed bitterly. "I won't meet Mr. Right. I know that. I'm just holding out for a guy who knows my name and is having sex with me for more than just sex. And one who bathes more than once a month." She giggled. "If there is someone for me, he's dead. And even if he isn't, what are the chances I'll find him? I'm just looking for something more significant than 'spread your legs or starve'. At this point I've pretty much given up. It's not like there's a good time or place to be having sex out here anyways." Katt sighed.

"Don't I know it? I long for the days of hotel penthouse hook-ups, champagne and bubble baths, or even just doing it in a trophy room. And I think what I do is more than 'spreading my legs or starve.' I like to think that I'm a skilled worker providing my unique talents to an appreciate client base."

"Wow, how romantic." Katt said sarcastically. "And isn't that what sex is? You just lie back and let the guy do his thing? Maybe use your mouth or hand sometimes? Does it really take, skill?" Katt asked in genuine curiosity.

"Spoken like a true virgin. There's an art to it, a give and take. Sex is a symphony. At least, that's how I sell it to my clients. But no, it's far more than spreading my legs and waiting. Maybe I'll show you sometime."

"Um, show me?" Katt asked nervously. "I don't know if I even like girls..." Katt said looking at Shannon in a whole new way. She was attractive, very attractive, but Katt had never really looked at other women sexually. If the world wasn't in its current state, she wouldn't have been curious, but they were living in a new time. "If you were to show me... How would it work, exactly?" Katt asked, trying to keep the new nervous energy she felt out of her voice.

"Take it easy, hon, I was just playing around." Shannon smiled. "And I don't get many chances to be playful anymore, which is a shame, cause I'm fun. You have no idea how fun I can be."

"Um yea, right. I knew that. Me too." Katt said nervously wishing her face wasn't the same shade as her hair. She turned up the music and the two sat in silence as they drove.

A few minutes later they were back at the entrance of the town they'd just left. "Back to square one." Katt joked. "Should we go straight through, or get out and look for supplies?" Katt asked bringing the car to a stop at the town's sign.

"Good question. Do we want to go out to where there COULD be zombies, or into a place where we KNOW there's zombies?" Shannon raised the tip of her suede hat. "I made sure to get all promised merchandise before i delivered payment. Ain't nothin' back there I need."
