Which well-known books/tales are deserving of an erotic makeover?

Oedipus - wish we could change this so his dad dies of natural causes, and he marries his mother and has a daughter with her. He realizes the truth but is such a good ruler that no one is mad because the entire land has become prosperous. As his mother ages, the daughter becomes his mate. Through her he has sons to pass on the kingdom to. Blessed by the Greek gods, there are no negative effects due to their inbreeding. They live happily ever after.

There's a story on this site that re-imagines Ariel and her sisters as lovecraftian monsters. A lighthouse keeper knocks her up, IIRC.

EDIT: here it is.

See this is what irritates me about this site. There is a rule here that you CANNOT post a work with aged up characters, if they were under age in the source material. In the original story by Hans Christian Anderson, Ariel is 15, in the Disney film, 16. Yet we have a posted story.

And that's fine, I'm very happy the author got the work posted, because I think the rule is crap. It's just that I've been sitting on a Return to Neverland story idea what would be awesome, but I know it would get kicked back. Because that's MY luck.

That Ariel Lorelei has so little in common with the HCA/Disney mermaid that it hardly even counts as non-original character.

Anyway, if you not allowed to do a story about Peter Pan then don't do a story about Peter Pan. Do a story about an 18 y/o girl named Gwendoline and her 18 y/o (step-?)brothers who meet a magical legal-age teenagers from a place full of fairies and pirates and redskins (or maybe not those?)

Have the Lingard Family come from Manchester instead of London. They'll never figure out where you got the idea from, then.

But the fact remains, both are under 18.
Yeah, well, Anderson himself got the idea from Germanic mythology, where Mermaids are water spirits and thus presumably ageless.

I know. I'm his biographer. ;)

Seriously though, are they really that crazy about the age of pre-20th century, public domain fictional characters? Would I get in trouble if I wrote a story featuring the Virgin Mary?

Well, yes, I might. There are countries in the world that still have blasphemy laws. But...

Has anybody considered the Cthulhu Mythos?

Although for a more genuine answer, Dracula and Carmilla are probably rife for an erotic expansion. The two stories already has plenty sexual undertones, so I feel it could be adapted quite easily. I was inspired by both when writing a vampire-centric chapter in one of my stories as well, though more of a rip-off tribute than a straight (pun not intended) adaptation.

Similarly, I did have another concept in mind inspired by Frankenstein for a potential future story.

Other than that, the only other thing that comes to mind are the original Conan the Cimmerian stories, which are already very horny, although with nothing explicit going on in them, but they are there (and public domain) for anybody who wants the challenge of a rewrite.
I know it was more of a joke answer but I think the problem with Cthulu Mythos stories when trying to sex them up is that the source material is borderline sex-repulsed. When any mention of sex does occur it’s an abominable mixing of blood (once met someone who loved reading Lovecraft and was somehow shocked that Lovecraft was racist) or a horrific experience.

So while you can write a sexy story with the mythos, you would be best served by creating an adjacent story as opposed to trying to sex up one of the original stories.

Carmilla is a very common one to sex up with multiple movies, books, series etc.

Frankenstein could be fun, it’s already got a pretty strong gay subtext between Victor and the Monster. I once thought of writing a story about the Bride surviving Victor’s attempt to destroy her in the book and, trying to chase after Victor and the Monster, winds up saving Elizabeth from death and falls into a relationship with her.

Conan could be fun but I think it’s one of those odd situations where you know Conan fucks…but due to sensibilities of the time that wouldn’t get written in but the prose also makes it so if you tried to capture the spirit while adding the fucking, it would come off a little weird. Not saying it could not be done but it would be a bit tricky.

I think one grimm’s fairy tale that could serve to get sexed up would be fearnot, though the only problem is that there’s only one real opportunity to add sex.

If you aren’t familiar: super short version

Guy is dumb but has no sense of fear. His dad gets tired of his idiocy so he tells him to get a goal and go pursue it somewhere else. Guy decides to make it his goal to learn how to shiver. Through his lack of fear and strong muscles he manages to overcome lots of obstacles and wins game glory and a princesses’s hand in marriage but he never learns how to shiver and complains about it. Wife is so sick of hearing about it that she chucks a pitcher of Ice water on him, making him shiver so he can finally achieve his goal.

What if instead on his wedding night, he learns to shiver from pleasure?

Annie was weirdly priggish too, despite being a murderer. I think she'd probably frown on people who have sex outside of marriage.

I could see the scenario from Misery being used in a BDSM story with some changes to the character. Instead of a killer nurse, make her a smoking hot sex fiend who loves the Misery books.
Yes, I thought of a possible BDSM angle for Misery. The question is: is Annie dominant or submissive, or maybe both? The actual book has her as a true sadist, not merely a fun-and-games role player. King did some research on psychopaths, and there is some kind of twisted sexuality underneath her terrible behavior.

Yet, one could imagine her with a submissive side too, a form of reaction to the guilt and maybe even shame she has in her psyche. Paul would probably have a good old mean time whacking her big bare behind really hard. Maybe that's the only thing that could arouse her in the conventional sense. Could that then be worked into his escape plan? Write it if you wish to.

King had a rather strange mind, and he mostly admitted to that.

Yes, yet it barely holds a candle to Time Enough for Love. Lazarus Long goes back in time and has sex with his own mother.
In Up The Line by Robert Silverberg, the main character goes back in time and has sex with, I think, his great-grandmother. There are some spoiler alerts that I won't go into here.

It is amusing that time travel has been turned into a tourist attraction, with more and more people paying to go back to witness great events in history. Our course, like Yosemite National Park, certain places become more crowded as more travelers arrive. Like most time travel works, the contradictions are deliberately ridiculous and part of the fun.

I do have Fifty Shades of Dark Pink. in which Anastasia turns the tables on Christian. She doesn't restrain him, but she does dare him and makes an appeal to his male pride. "Do you mean to say that you are afraid of a little spankie from a mere girl like me? Please, take it like a man." There is then some sexual activity that is sort of goofy fun.

Anastasia also admits that she is bi-sexual.

Lovecraft was extremely prudish, even for the time he lived, and it shows in his work. In a way, that might make them a tempting subject. There's a big void there.

Beowulf
When the hero and King Hrothgar are out hunting the monster, the monster finds Queen Wealhtheow bathing by the river in the dark of night. The monster takes the beautiful Rubenesque woman, who finds an never-before-known ecstasy on Grendel's enormous cock. She returns to the village and tells no one, reveling in the memory of her inhuman lover.

It could be non-con or depending on the Queen's slut-level, a non-human story.

And presumably it's not Grendel's arm that's pulled from his torso and nailed over the door...

The thing is, the setting is easy to sex up but turning the old stories into erotic fiction is tricky to a point that an original work would be easier.

For example: Call of Cthulu the only real spot to add a sex scene in is to describe one of the wild orgies one of the cults are engaged in.

I’d say an easier option would be to look at the Call of Cthulu RPG. For example, it has a module where a deep one (fish people) church opens in LA and while there are transformed members, the head of the church is a family who hasn’t changed yet (though their daughter is starting to show signs).

You could make a story about the family, especially their daughter trying to get some last second non fish people sex or deep ones coming up to keep up romantic relationships after they were supposed to go into the sea

Or there’s a modern module where an alien gets trapped in a mortal body and has to find a new body every few days as it burns through them, so it uses an online dating site to find victims: maybe change it so it feeds off of sex and switches bodies so everyone is in the wring body but also uncontrollably horny

Some of the post-Howard pastiche stories would work a lot better than the originals, methinks.

Escape from Innsmouth has plenty of cases of Deep Ones roaming around in search of human or hybrid nookie. The Babson Family comes immediately to mind.
