 Stop!!! I'm catholic, now I have to go and pray for you:devil:

Pray for yourself, dear. I'm not Catholic and well aware that my ticket to hell is secured and non-transferrable.

Might wanna confess some of those sins I know you're carrying around too...

~lucky ;)

Raphy,

We haven't seen you for a while. How's everything with you and your new bride? Inquiring minds want to know.

Lime

Hey, Lime :)

Well, contrary to popular opinion, she hasn't been keeping me locked up in the basement, and she hasn't killed me and buried my body in the back yard.

Things are good - Better than good, even. Whisp took some time off work before and after the wedding, so we didn't spend huge amounts of time on the computer, so that's why I've been absent, mostly.

Also, no offence intended to anyone, but in the period before my absence I noticed an inordinate amount of threads started by cut-and-pasted online news clippings. I have zero interest in current affairs or any such stuff, and so I found myself less and less interested in the topics being discussed. I took my own advice and voted with my mouse, browsing elsewhere in the few times that I did use the computer. I just check back now and then to see if anything interesting (read: trivial, flirtatious and non-intellectual ;) ) crops up.

As a brief update on us though - Life is pretty good. We've just got done submitting all the forms for my immigration application. Now we have to sit and wait. Immigration say that my temporary work permit (and Alien registration card - cos y'know, I'm from Alpha Centauri) should arrive in a few months, and hopefully, life will take off around about then as I'm really looking forward to going back to work. Call me a chauvanist if you will, but I believe it's a man's job to support his family and it's really galling me that I can't do that right now - I haven't been out of work since I left college at 22. This inactivity is driving me nuts.

On the upside, I've gotten quite handy around the house. Laying floors, fixing pipes, cooking and cleaning too. I've also been spending a lot of time out and about meeting musicians in this local area. There's a lot of talent around here, it seems, and it's been good for me, because there was an awful lot of talent back in Cheltenham where I lived in the UK, and I was very used to being surrounded by talented and like-minded musicians, music being such a big part of my life. In fact, I was in the studio just the other day, laying down some lead guitar and backing vocal tracks for a friend.

So yeah - life is good. Prospects good. Future is good. I'm happy, she's happy, the dog is happy. I like this area, and I like my new in-laws, even *gasp* her mother.

No, no complaints here. We're just waiting with baited breath for Immigration to get back to us. Until then, I guess it's business as usual.

Yeah, the one thing keeping me sane is knowing that I'm not out of work due to any failing on my part. Not because I got fired, or because I have no marketable skills, or because I'm a sad loser, but just because I'm not allowed to work right now.

And I wouldn't expect a big rant thread. I don't tend to rant very often, although I find it interesting that while it takes 1-2 years for my residency to come through, the government are so eager to get my tax dollars that they'll happily let me work after only a month or two whilst I'm waiting..

Gotta love beauracrats, eh?

Hey, we agree about supporting our family and I'm no chauvinist. It's called a work ethic dude! Damn glad to hear you voice it and you having to qualify it is a prime example of how the whole PC thing goes too far sometimes.

That said, I sometimes wish for a couple months of house husband...of course, with kids, there is a whole different element.

Don't worry, our government has a way of bringing this out of even the most patient and civilized among us.

Soon you'll be raving along with the rest of us.

Lime

Ohhh, don't mistake my apathy for patience or civilization ;)

*grins*

Remember, you have to care to rant.

I just admire Dumpling's AV

edited to add that Lucky's AV brings a smile to my face.

If you wait long enough, you'll see Dumpling's AV turn up as one of the preview pics on bignaturals.com as they weekly rotate through their featured girls.

Lucky's AV
CharleyH's AV
minsue's AV

Raphy,

Good luck with immigration - I am sure it will be good for an ongoing "rant" thread - as dealing with the government is always such a pleasure.

Lime,

PS big Hello to (Mrs.) Whisp

Big Hello back at ya! *hugs*

Whisp :rose:

Ps. He might not rant, but I might. We'll have to wait and see. ;)

Raphy, if you are dealing with La Migra, you have my sympathy. All gov't bureaucracies attract assholes but the INS, or whatever they are called now, seems to recruit them. They are the worst of all, even worse than the IRS, which is quite a stretch. One reason is that the people they deal with have little or no authority so they can get away with any abuse they want to. The same is true of the IRS also but not as much so and they work more publicly. Congress is supposed to be supervising the INS but, since most people who deal with them are not voters, they tend to ignore the abuses.
