Who is Queer?

There are also pansexuals and omnisexuals. I'm not certain what they are but Etoile has that in her signature line and she tends to know what she's talking about.
They mean more or less the same thing. They're alternatives to bisexual for people who realize that there are more than two genders in the world. :)

I don't consider poly to necessarily be part of queer, though. If it's a mixed group that all has sex with each other, then it's probably queer by virtue of orientation. But otherwise I'm not sure how I'd categorize it - it doesn't fall under kink for me either, but at the same time it isn't vanilla...I dunno.

one thing i do like about the queer word is straight people can assoiciate themselves with being queer also
That doesn't quite jive with me. I'm fine with having straight people as allies/friends of queers, but I don't consider them part of the queer group. *shrug*

If I'm not mistaken there are somewhere in the neighbourhood of 5 different gender/sexual identities.

I totally understand this sentiment. I do wonder about people whose relationships go way way out of heteronormative camps though. You know what I mean? It's very subjective, what that "straight" is exactly.

I know bisexual people with opposite sex partners who are pretty damn "straight" and I know bisexual people with opposite sex partners who make me look like Betty Crocker.

Although not many.

I suppose if they are bi they are bi, but as a better example, I strongly feel that a FemDom relationship of a certain level is one that will never be able to mainstream itself in hetero ways.

Probably not, the very concept of it is so counter-intuitive to society as a whole; it seems unlikely that it would ever be thought of as mainstream, at least so long as society has that idea.

As a gay man this has all been very strange and interesting for me.
Prior to my arrival here at Lit. I had no idea there was such an immense and diverse "Bi" world out there. It's been quite and eye opener (and education) to say the least.

Ha! maybe that answers why I have more straight and bi friends than I do of my own kind. Now I don't mean this in a demeaning or condescending manner at all. Please!
I've had enough issues of my own just trying to being the gay guy next door.Sometimes I really do feel like a member of some fraternal order or secret society.

As a result, I'm starting to dislike the word "gay" and opting for "queer". "Gay" has suddenly taken on to mean different things and conotations today, more than just meaning homosexual. Even some of my lesbian friends have been calling or refering to themselve as "two queer gals". That's a first one for me!
So "who is queer?" I hope I am!

i don't identify myself as queer or feel much identity to the word so i may of been mistaken

but i heard some people heavy into bdsm sometimes identify themselves as queer ... so if their hetro how do you feel about them calling themselves queer?

or is it only the bi bdsm'ers that would call themselves queer?

As a lesbian who is into BDSM, I differentiate between "queer" and "kink" communities. I could understand, though, if others did not.

I define myself by whatever the hell I want to define myself, and I use words in whatever way sounds right to me.

The End.

:p

That is a good enough answer for me.

the end for you perhaps ... but if you start calling yourself a duohippo-lioness i start to wonder what it means :)

which i guess is why never started this thread

i think labels are useful but more on a personal level when people use them as self exploration and for finding about your identity and knowing you're perhaps not alone

PS i was actually thinking of starting a thread asking where angel was :)
