Who leads when you dance?

In Tennessee? Hmm... They have them in the big cities I've lived in- Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago- of Course they would have them in New York. Maybe if there's a Liberal Arts college or a university campus- you'll find classes. Or find a guy couple to go with you gals. Then in private, the couples switch off, so that the follower can teach a leader. Gawd, that sounds convoluted!

They might in Knoxville. There's 4 gay nightclubs in Downton Knoxville.

BTW, I'm a guy, not a gal.

I hear there's a good community in Memphis (from a gay male friend who used to live there). If that's close, it might be worth investigating, too.

One of the annoying things about going out dancing with other women is how few of them know how to lead (I am into real dancing – tangos, swing, waltz, salsa and so on).

A comment from my dance partner (we both love to dance and our respective significant others don’t – sigh):

"Why is it that only butches know how to lead?"

I know she was only generalizing, still there is a kernel of truth to it.

Lack of experience, lack of interest? (puzzled)

Hmmm not something I have ever thought about. Though I do not get into stylized dancing..I know that I do lead when I am out with a lady friend...

Interesting topic! I wish I could speak intelligently on this, however upon reflection I realized I've actually never danced with a woman before. Some day this must be remedied!

Who leads?

I have to reply to this Thread only because it make me laugh about my wife and I.

Whenever we are at an affair where we can dance she'll forceable correct my rythem or moves or step in the sweetest way.

It used to piss me off but I had to admite she knew what she was doing. We have more fun when I get it down.

The only problem is when I think about it too hard and start doing the one-two-three in my head when I've had too much to drink.

Can't this same affectionate thought be played out with gay or lesbian couples.
