Who the fuck was I when I wrote THAT story?

I hope I don't ever lose my sense of humor, such as it is. I've attempted to sprinkle humor in my stories from the beginning, from my first story until my most recent one, but it's not easy to gauge the success of humor in erotic stories. Some people feel humor and erotica don't mix. I don't agree, but some may not like my sense of humor (which doesn't bother me). You might try another one just to see how it goes.

Oh, don't get me wrong: my stories still contain plenty of humor.

I just think it's less consistent now. It's more effortful. Back when I started, I didn't really need to think about it as much. I think it's largely tied to a move I've made toward older, more mature characters, but I dunno.

Oh I have a LOT of cringeworthy stories too.

So I just came back from a ten year break and in addition to pumping out stories with my pent up creativity I'm putting in delete and edit request (one at the time so i don't look like a dick) because yeah I'm actually shocked by the decent rating on some of my older stories because they are awful. The thought that a new reader might check out the current work and go see some trash I wrote in 2004 makes me cringe.

Natural sense of humor simply cannot be 'lost' or 'gained'. People are born with an innate sense of what is funny. Of course, as you pointed out, individual tastes play into that. And while I agree that 'some people...', it's been my experience that in relationships, humor, like trust, is part of the foundation for a good relationship. If you can't laugh in the bedroom, then something's missing in the relationship as far as I'm concerned. Humor in bed lessens whatever humiliation might happen with various mishaps that occur. Laughter seems to make all of that okay. Can you imagine the emotional damage that might be done if no one laughed when say the bed collapsed? Or the bottom individual accidentally farts during doggie??? Or a female suddenly starts her period unexpectedly? Or the whipped cream can explodes? Or the keys to the handcuffs get misplaced and there's no spare? The possibilities are endless... but one thing is sure... laughter makes it better.
