Miss Trickery said:I think Hawaii is a beautiful place... and my home island - Oahu - is beautiful. Filthy? Maybe if you're hanging around wahiawa, waikiki, or honolulu. Just about as filthy as any other overpopulated location - but we have immaculate areas as well.
The hating americans thing... well that's probably something not too many foreigners to the islands understand. The dominant race here is asian - which many mistake for Hawaiians. Hawaiians are a minority here and we all don't eat spam or pineapples... we dont live in grass shacks, live by the beach, play ukuleles and dance hula. All the filth, degradation, and plain ol nastiness can be attributed to the hordes of immigrants (of all shapes, sizes, and colors) that come here and fuck the place up.
Simple solution though for anyone who doesn't like Hawaii... leave? Or keep hating it lol no biggie.
I actually know that. My ex roommate was half Samoan, and he spent a lot of time in Hawaii. (He even has one of those cool looking tattoos.) I personanally wouldn't mess anything up. I don't even throw gum on the ground, I think littering is inconsiderate.
Why it's dirty doesn't make it any less dirty. It's sad that other people have been allowed to make your island dirty. As you said that's true in any large city, some more than others. I read in Readers Digest that Portland (where I live) was voted the cleanest city in America. I think that if we're clean that other city's must be flat out nasty, cause Portland's gross. If I were to ever go to Hawaii, I'd actualy not want to go to any of the 'touristy' places, because I don't have the patience for those places. They are normally filthy, full of stupid stuff that's supposed to native to the area, but isn't, and BORING. On the other hand I wouldn't want to pay for the crimes (and messes) of other people, so I might stick to the tourist traps.
